I received my 980's today!

Tested them and everything seems fine. The card is a lot better than my 780ti's were, performance wise I see a huge fps increase in every single modern game maxed out.

Thank you EVGA.

Well the card got to EVGA today. Waiting for them to say on site that they actually have it.

I am stepping up my two 970 SSC cards to two 970 FTW cards.  The difference is only $10 each and I like the cooler on the FTW cards better.

I payed for my stepup today for my two 970 FTW cards.  I got the shipping information email.  My question is, do you think the turnaround will be less than 14 days?  Can I send one card, wait for the new one to arrive, then send the other?  That way I will not have to be cardless?

Keep in mind EVGA's holiday schedule (see main evga site for a link in red), which seems to require delivery to them by this Friday, though I don't think that guarantees they'll ship by Monday, which is their last shipping day of the holiday season - they're closed for nearly two weeks afterwards!

My invoice was approved earlier today. I paid, and payment was accepted within an hour or so. Shipping tonight with expected Wednesday or Thursday delivery. Hoping they'll ship my card before the break. Would hate to be cardless for my biggest downtime of the year.

Oh man, that is brutal.  It also says the RMA is only good for 14 days.  I may have to give them a call and see if I can just wait until after their break.  I don't think I want to pay for 2-day shipping.

I think they'll honor it if you ship in time, but not having a card for the holidays is brutal. Christmas could come late if this was your present to yourself.

Luckily I live 30 minutes away, so the ground shipping is only a few bucks and should get there in 1 day or so.

I actually just called and spoke with them.  They said as long as it was received on or by the 19th they would get them shipped back to me before the close for the holiday.  Now I have to decide if it is worth it to pay for expedited shipping (I'm in Florida) and go cardless for a few days to get this all done before they take their break.  I wish they would just do cross shipping.

Ah, sorry that you have to make that decision. Glad that you were able to find it out before you sent your card. Keep us updated! I will do the same.

Edit on 12/17/14: My Products show my card was received. I shipped last night at 8PM. $25 to ship it 20 miles away. Well worth it if they ship the card before they close for the holidays! Thanks EVGA

Edit on 12/18/14: got the shipment notice from EVGA. So fast! Thanks EVGA

Re: Step-up program users thread 2014/12/22 15:44:22 (permalink)
Got my GTX 980 Ref today! Stepped up from 780. It took awhile, 3 months, for the whole process to complete due to low availability of the reference 980's but I'm so glad I waited instead of going for the ACX.

One thing I thought was a bit hypocritical of EVGA was in the Step-Up shipping instructions it states...

-- Inadequate packaging
Some examples are:
>> Multiple products packed into a single box without separators to prevent contact with adjacent products.
>> Products packed in boxes without protective cushioning.
>> Products shipped with Styrofoam peanuts only.
>> Products where the EVGA Serial Number has been removed or defaced.
>> Physical damage to the product i.e. a broken or dented printed circuit board assembly.
>> Components added or removed from the printed circuit board.
>> Water Damage due to modification to the GPU using a water block of any type.

So I made sure I didn't use "Styrofoam peanuts only" when I shipped out the 780 to EVGA. Today I opened up the package that contained my 980 and guess what I found? Yep...styrofoam peanuts only. Big time eye-rolling on that one. ;)

Well, bullocks, I just came upon this thread and the information that I won't be able to get my card in within my step-up rma # window.

Mine was approved while I was out of the country and planned to ship it expedited when I got back this week.

What am I supposed to do?

i sent out 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked for the step up Friday December 19th and it shows they updated me in the system on Christmas eve as "Received" for both cards this is a surprise cause i was told they will not be in this status tell after Jan 5th. so sometime in January i will be running 3-way SLI GTX980s.

@rj anderson i think what they mean is just the card alone chillin inside some packing peanuts

Do you think EVGA will let me "Step-Up" from a single 980 Classified to 2 x 970 FTW?  The price is near identical, would just be for 2 cards instead of one?

I sent my 970 in with the backplate mounted to it - I did because I can't use it on my step-up card (the new SSC). Is this a problem?? Step-up info says they've received the card. Shipping is still pending.
