The final piece of the puzzle has seemingly fallen into place. Hardware analysis site Tech Insights updated its own Nintendo Switch teardown with die-shot photography of the new console's Tegra processor, mooted as a custom design by the platform holder. Only here's the thing - the configuration is a match for the standard Tegra X1, as seen in the Shield Android TV.

This is perhaps to be expected bearing in mind the increasing weight of evidence pointing towards an off-the-shelf design, as we outlined recently in our look at the first Switch teardown. The configuration of Switch's chip is visually a match for the processor found in the revised 2017 edition of Nvidia's own Shield Android TV, right down to the same assortment of surface-mounted capacitors surrounding the processor

Did Nintendo lie about using "custom" Tegra X1 chip?

Does it matter?  It could have custom microcode on it.  Or it could have a slightly and subtly novel method of circuit integration or utilization which isn't obvious at first or second glance.  But, really, who cares?  It's a gaming device.  Whether people enjoy or don't enjoy owning the Switch is a much more important thing to focus on.

I think it does matter, did Nintendo lie to avoid people comparing the switch to nvidia weak "console".  I remember watching nvidia try to play borderlands 2 or might of been the pre-sequel, the game was unplayable due to input lag or low frame rates. Acting like the "custom" Tegra chip was new and improved, when it's the same weak SoC that's in the Nvidia Shield.

There's a million ways to claim that a piece of hardware or software is "custom".  Like I said, I highly doubt that there is no way you couldn't classify it as a truthful statement in one way or another.

Does it feel weak or do you enjoy playing it? That's what matters, isn't it?

Couldn't agree more with this part of your statement.

Nintendo have made their console do exactly what they aimed to do- make a great gaming experience for their customers.
I don't think they have tried to deceive anyone. It plays the games that are made for it.

As stated earlier, custom can mean a lot of things, not just the actual hardware design on the chip. In addition, the hardware might be slightly different, albeit in an unnoticeable (visually) manner. Don't forget how small the components within the chip are

I think the only way it matters is that custom roms are a bit more likely as it is not completely custom hardware. Good news IMHO.
