I just started getting into playing this and found out the keyboard bindings doesn't allow arrow keys to be set to the movement controls, why is this? I hate WASD

I just got the game recently and haven't tried it yet but as a former arrow key mover user I used to hate the wasd set up as well. That is until I tried it and fully tried to get used to it. Ever since I can't use the arrow keys anymore. You lose so many different key bindings having your left hand on the arrows and your right hand on the mouse. Makes it near impossible to use any key bindings left of the arrow keys. Try using and adapting the WASD movement. Once you get used to it its just like the arrow keys and also gives you more key bindings to add to your gaming.

I've been playing with arrow keys since the days of Doom. I have never liked WASD. All the buttons clustered around each other can sometimes cause my finger to slip in the heat of the moment and make me lose my finger position. At least with arrow keys, I can feel for the buttons, and I always know exactly where they are. And as some have mentioned, I also had every button binder around the arrow keys. And pinky for ctrl jump is just so much easier.

Rather sad this day and age you need to research a game to see if it supports proper binding. I mean come on devs you programmed the %#*{^*%# thing on a system that has a keyboard attached to it.

Nice to see someone else here with the same exact reason I use them. Thanks :)

I have to agree that on third person games I prefer a controller if it is supported.

Also I thought this thread was going to be for left handed people. I could then see how the arrow keys could be used as wasd but other than that... it just seems weird why anyone would use them.

I'm left handed and have always used the arrow keys to move.  I remap the rt ctrl and alt keys as well...for things like run/crouch and such.  My left hand is on my mouse and always more important for shoot/aim, etc.

I knew I wasn't the only weirdo. :D

I have done a few third person games (Gears of War, Resident evil, Ghostbusters) and they all felt fine in kb.

IF it feels weird, it's only because the devs had their heads up their asses and left motion acceleration on which feels natural on a controller.

ARMYguy, well, lol, for me that's going way back when I didn't even have a mouse and most movement was with the right hand on the arrow keys and your left hand doing all the specifics. Things like JET and god knows what else.

Because nowadays we have games that use more than four keys.  But hey, even arrow keys are better than a controller.

As a southpaw I've always remapped to the arrow keys, I bought the game and was astonished that this basic item was missing. I'll revisit this game when they address the issue.

I don't know how u can possibly think using arrow keys is better than WASD. For one, you have to remap EVERY game because they are all defaulted to WASD. Another thing is, there are not enough keys in that area of the keyboard. Even if there are enough keys you still have to contort your hand in weird ways to play. Take BF3 for example, what keys do you use to sprint, crouch, spot, jump, reload, push-to-talk, and so on? When using the arrow keys there are some things you just cannot do unless you have a mouse with plenty of extra buttons.

I think you guys using the arrow keys should learn to become better typers. I'm betting that most of you cannot type without looking at your hands. Try typing this sentence within 7 seconds and without looking at your hands.
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"

If you cant do that, you should start practicing your typing. It will make using WASD keys 100x easier for you.

Interesting read (and list of alternatives) about the use of arrow keys vs. WASD:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_keys

I still use arrow keys because I started out on games when that was the default setup. No big deal, because I'm not a fan of Sleeping Dogs, tried the demo - wasn't my cup of tea. Does annoy me on a couple other games that I got in the past - just can't seem to adapt. Maybe I'm an old dog that can't learn new tricks?

Since the only online play I do is driving games, I never run out of keys to bind to near the arrows. I love FPS, just not playing them online, and that way I can just ignore the team commands & other online-specific bindings.

The other reason why I like the arrow keys is that there is space around them, fat-fingering isn't an issue.

That's important for some of us that aren't uber-gamers... More power to those of you that can play using WASD - maybe someday I'll spend a week forcing myself to play everything that way, but since it's not fun for me, I'll probably wait until my retirement days.

Fun is the whole point, right?

I haven't actually used arrow keys in modern games, but as I think about it, I think I would like it more than a controller.  There's still plenty of nearby keys and I still get to use the mouse... though it still is 10x less convenient than WASD and I don't see why anyone would ever use it.

Like I said earlier, for me it's not a choice.

My ring-finger always hits keys by accident since it's mangled into a hook.

The arrow keys have nothing under them so I can play without that finger getting in the way.

I also hate the "new" layout that most keyboards are using now where there isn't a \ beside the shift key. This takes away one of the keys I use with my pinky. :D Usually I have enough buttons near the arrows to bind anything that's needed.

My mouse also has side-scroll that I've bound with the logitech software so that I get two more mouse buttons to bind to.

It's not new in the US, and I know in many European countries you can still get great keyboards in ISO layout.

I agree and had the same problem when playing games. With Wolfenstien, Doom, Quake, CSS and even BFBC2 I used arrow keys until I was told about using wasd. I used it and hated it but now its like impossible for me to use arrow keys. Yah sometimes I may miss hit buttons but never becomes a huge deal.
