Skylake Core i7-6700K CPU on EVGA's own Z170 Classified motherboard equipped with 16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 memory and powered by EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 power supply, K|NGP|N managed to overclock the Core i7-6700K CPU up to 5.6GHz and EVGA's GTX 980 Ti K|NGP|N graphics card to over 2GHz, allowing him to get a score of 7,893.7 in Unigine Heaven Xtreme benchmark, which is the new single-card world record. http://fudzilla.com/news/38654-evga-and-k-ngp-n-broke-unigine-heaven-xtreme-record Very nice !!!

Look nice, I would 100% upgrade on Skylake same with DDR4 this year, but I decide to go with X99 for longer time. I don't know somehow is more attractive Z170 platform than Haswell Z87/Z97... Only EVGA had two extremely nice motherboards for Haswell, but Z170 Classified have everything someone need for longer future. Whole platform is somehow more attractive, only I don't like because Intel didn't made same Turbo as i7-4790K (4.4GHz). I mean from one side that is bad, from other side that's maybe even better because most people will anyway overclock to 4.5GHz... Nobody will leave on 4.2GHz for sure. Most of them don't even need more voltage for 4.5GHz. But look on picture in corner... EVGA TORQ X10...

You had chance now with i7-5820K. Most of them work 500-700MHz overclocked on stock voltage. Even price was cheaper than i7-6700K. With X99 Micro 2 USB 3.1 or X99-A/USB 3.1 price would be similar as some normal Skylake platform. People didn't figure out how Intel made excellent processors, special i7-5960X... 8 cores but still capable to work overclocked on 1200-1300MHz over stock frequency... That's almost half of his speed. Bigger success than i7-4790K on 5.0GHz and improvements are bigger than i7-4790K stock vs 5.0GHz. Amazing processor. K|NGP|N record in Unigine Heaven on Skylake and single graphic card is one more prove that Extreme is better only with multi GPU and i7-4790K only if they work on Turbo clock, on same speed Skylake is better.

I don't like OC'ing my chips, so with the only one close to 4Ghz being $500, I'm quite alright. The ONLY reason I would of went with the X99 is for the MSI Godlike motherboard and I couldn't justify spending $550 for that.

May I ask why you don't overclock? If it is because of wear and tear, warranty covers most everything aside from Delidding and extremely overclocking. If you wear the chip out under normal usage, they send you a 100% brand new unopened cpu. You really don't even have to push for extreme measure, just a little and you gain a substantial benefit.

I just don't like messing with it. I don't like high temps so it's more of a preference thing.

Yea, I have the 4790k but I'm getting the 6700k. I'll probably adjust the boost clock to 4.5 though, just to make it even.

But that's overclocking ;-) lol. With as simple as it is, adjusting the clock and setting it to run all cores at the same clocks, it is just too easy to do. I never tried the old way of trying to figure out what formula made things work.. I do love trying as hard as possible to push the cpu though.. I just haven't had any good luck with the cpus I have received.

4.5GHz is perfect for i7-6700K, no one keep i7 on default clock. From side of enthusiasts they don't need to afraid and feel bad because i7-4790K online results show 1-2% faster CPU. That's only because higher Intel Turbo Clock, if they want to overclock i7-6700K on similar speed they are in advantage.

I've had the i7-2700k and 4790k. I've never overclocked either. I'm only doing the turbo boost on the skylake to 4.5.

Max Turbo on i7-6700K is 4.2GHz... You mean you overclock with Turbo to 4.5GHz. i7-6700K is excellent processor, little annoying because half of CPU is Internal Graphic Card, but that's not really important what is inside for someone who look performance of Processor.

I know the specs of the skylake being I ordered the thing. I'm saying I'm going to up the turbo clock to 4.5 instead of 4.2.

I'd like to see if you can actually get this CPU to 5.0 on air if you're willing to try. I fell for the hype about the 4790k and just like everyone else I couldn't get anything stable past 4.8 GHz.

If you want to try 6 cores you have now historical chance with i7-5820K with same Cache as 4960X and same core numbers only little newer platform. X99 is perfect for primary rig, E-ATX, Z170 is perfect for smaller "backup" rigs I call them. Special little Mini ITX motherboards. Somehow I have confidence in overclocking CPU on EVGA boards, maybe is that experience because I have nice i7-3770K and reliable Z77 FTW... It's pity because board is not Mini ITX Format I would maybe even keep than as second PC. Or maybe I could keep second kit of DDR4 to sell Z77 platform and invest in i7-6700K and during 2016 to buy Stinger Z170. I didn't look compatibility between Z170 Stinger and Ripjaws 4, at least 2x4GB.

More people care about daily use over pointless benchmark scores that doesn't prove anything in real world performance. Lets see what Vince can do with a system being cooled by air that's used for gaming etc everyday. See how stable his system stays for a month.

Yea, I have the 4790k but I'm getting the 6700k. I'll probably adjust the boost clock to 4.5 though, just to make it even.
I'd like to see if you can actually get this CPU to 5.0 on air if you're willing to try. I fell for the hype about the 4790k and just like everyone else I couldn't get anything stable past 4.8 GHz.
Do you have an air cooler to loan me? If so I'll go for 5ghz on air. The SKylake doesn't come with any stock CPU cooler and I don't have anything for air, I'm temp using an H100i GTX until my ekwb predator 240 comes in.

More people care about daily use over pointless benchmark scores that doesn't prove anything in real world performance. Lets see what Vince can do with a system being cooled by air that's used for gaming etc everyday. See how stable his system stays for a month.
Well, you do those benchmarks. His work is built around extreme overclocking. If you don't want to see his extreme overclocking Ventures, don't read the articles about it. It's pretty simple. Want to see the results on air? Test it yourself... Oh wait.. People that can't afford the extreme overclocking venture tests it everyday and posts their results everyday.. See how no one cares, since anyone can do that? For most people, it's the idea of "if I had the money, and knowledge, I could do this too" so it interests them. If you aren't one of those people, feel free to move along.

I'd be interested in seeing if it will do 5.0 GHz period. Doing it on air is not necessary. Thanks.

Jacob hold on 5.x GHz different processors years. i7-3770K, i7-4770K and others but on Phase cooling. For Air and watercooling is different, perfect clock for Haswell E is 4.0-4.2GHz... for GTX980Ti/TITAN X 1200 Base clock. With water blocks that's not so hard to reach.

I'd seen that 5.0+ GHz build belonging to Jacob but a Phase-Change cooling system like that is out of the question for me. I could build another PC for that kind of money. http://www.ldcooling.com/shop/l/233-ld-pc-v10-phase-change-black-white.html
