This is exactly why I went with the 11900 instead of waiting for the 12900

Bro can you return it?  Newegg has the 12900 in stock and you can get a DDR4 board.....

I’d consider it, if that’s an option. The 11900K isn’t much better than a 9900K from what I understand, and the 12900K definitely outperforms my 9900K when it comes to gaming. Windows is all around snappier as well. Subtle things like applying changes to the Nvidia control panel are also faster. For reference, I’m using a Z690 DDR4 motherboard.

You either feed the scalp or join the bot.  Two wrongs don't make a right.

What's concerning is these companies know these are manufactured demands meaning once the scalpers/bots subside, they'll be caught with their pants down from all the funds spent to increase production so I think companies are scared to increase for these reasons and let the consumer deal with it.

If you have a z690 ddr4 board your 11900 isn’t going to work. Return your CPU and grab a 12900k (or a 12700 they are all over the place) and just be happy. DDR5 ram is faster but it won’t make anywhere near the difference in games that a 12 series CPU vs an 11 will.

On a positive note, it may be relatively easy to get hold of an EVGA Z690 motherboard (once they release) since they are DDR5 only. You just won't be able to use it for a while, lol.

Most of these are "buy now" prices and nobody is actually buying or paying that much for them.
The ones that are 2x16GB are close to $600.
I've followed some of the large priced ones and once the bidding ends, they go right back up for the same price.

Been keeping tabs on them myself. All I can say is good! Anyone paying those prices is just as crazy as those putting them up for sale at those prices. I wish I could say maybe people aren’t giving into scalpers with DDR5 like they did with GPUs, but people are bidding on the less-scalped kits. I want a DDR5 kit as much as the next guy, but $600 for a $150 2x8 kit is still bonkers in my book.

Looks like it's going to be a good wait before we see DDR5 become readily available, so I saw one reasonable idea; if you're going for a higher-end DDR5 motherboard (like EVGA's Z690 boards), it's cheaper to just buy a basic Z690 DDR4 motherboard for maybe $200-250 right now (plenty available) and then sell it when you can get some DDR5 at a reasonable price. The alternative is to pay stupidly scalped prices for DDR5 now, or just stare at your expensive 12900K CPU and Z690 DDR5 motherboard sitting in their boxes gathering dust day after day.

I saw one reasonable idea; if you're going for a DDR5 motherboard (like EVGA's Z690 boards), just buy a cheap Z690 DDR4 motherboard for $200-250 (plenty of them available) and use that until you can get some DDR5 at MSRP. When you think about it, it's cheaper to buy a cheap motherboard for a couple of hundred $ and then sell it, than it is to pay stupidly scalped prices for DDR5 now. At least that way you don't have to sit there staring at your expensive 12900K CPU and Z690 DDR5 motherboard sitting in their boxes all day.

That’s what I did. I bought a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master with my 12900K. Once I saw the signs about DDR5, however, I bought an Aorus Elite AX DDR4. Could have gone with the Gaming X, but I wanted WiFi. I still have the Master, so when good kits of DDR5 become available (not scalped) I’ll be swapping over to it. More money spent for the time being, but maybe I’ll keep the DDR4 board and pair it with a 12700K or even a 12600K down the road. Bottom line, <expletive> scalpers.

Nice. Since I have a 12900K on the way, I just ordered an ASUS TUF Z690 DDR4 wifi board, only $20 more than the Aorus Elite AX DDR4. No way I'm paying triple-digit markup to some pos scalper for DDR5 ram. I intend to grab the EVGA Z690 Dark KP when it comes out - supposed to be before the end of the year, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I’m right there with you when it comes to refusing to pay scalper prices. And honestly, DDR4 works just fine for Alder Lake. Well, aside from the growing pains of board BIOS.

I was able to POST/boot with my DDR4-3600 4x8 kit and run its XMP profile. Messed with the gear modes and manual adjusted the speed and timings. But, I was getting random BSODs and game crashes. A new BIOS version fixed the BSODs, but the game crashes remained. Ran the RAM at stock settings and never had an issue. So, I tried a 4x8 DDR4-3200 kit, and it wouldn’t even POST. Removed 2 sticks of that and it POSTed both with and without XMP. Added the 2 sticks I’d removed, and it magically POSTed. Been using that 3200 kit ever since with no issues.

Again, growing pains that I’m sure BIOS revisions will remedy. After all, it’s not just Gigabyte boards that have been presenting issues with tried and true DDR4 kits. I read on Reddit that someone couldn’t even get their Z690 DDR4 board to work with anything past 2800. Think it was an Asus board in that scenario. Just keep this in mind if you experience problems and think maybe the board or CPU is defective.

Holy crap.. DDR5 5200MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 64GB (4 x 16GB)... $5,000. Insane.

I saw a 32gb Dominator set selling for 4,000 dollars

Someone asking for 4,000 and it selling are two different things. People can ask for a crazy amount but that doesn't mean they will find a buyer.

I think this scalper nightmare ends when they flood the market and don't have buyers and have to lower prices. When manufacturing catches up and better faster products come out scalpers could be out a lot of money when people won't pay even the retail the scalper paid.

^I think it may be some time, months, before the market catches up with demand for DDR5.  I also agree that the asking price might be out there now just to see if some fool would pay that much.  Unfortunately, there are probably a lot of fools who will.

...and I thought it was bad that a local here in Australia trying to flip his Dominator DDR5 kit on eBay for $AU1500!

I got a 32GB kit of Kingston Fury Beast 4800MHz DDR5 at retail price; not the best kit out there but it's running in my Z690 Hero without issue   Like I said in another thread, I got what I could get (took about 2 weeks of button mashing); it'll do until everything settles down and significantly better kits become readily available (probably late 2022).

It's getting worse...

AliExpress:
2x16GB 4800MHz CL40 Asgard ram.. US$10,018.68 (link)
2x16GB 5200MHz Corsair Platinum.. US$9,999.00 (link)  - that's over $14,000 Australian dollars Blaise!

EVGA must be wishing they had made some DDR4 Z690 iterations.
