Sadly, no. I also doubt it will become a thing because it would be very difficult to manage and create.

Everyone sell in amazon/ebay are scalper. At lease scalper price. This is kind of market price. Although someone sell at low price, scalper will get it and sell higher.

To be fair, most of the big retailers including amazon and ebay are encouraging scalping which is kind of nasty. Would be so easy to include multiple captchas to at least battle the bots buying everything straight away. The only retailer that does not get insta sniped in the UK is Scan

It is very easy to tell the difference between a legit seller & a scalper.

A legit seller in North America is required by law to have a business license to sell commercially & they will abide by MSRP prices with only a slight markup. The reason for this is that must pay their fair share of taxes & collect taxes from you & report it back for income taxes. Prison time is lengthy for those that do NOT have a legit business license & registered with their city/country/etc. & sell mass amounts without one.

Scalpers don't report taxes & most do charge you taxes but pockets it for themselves. Plus they sell way above MSRP prices & that is a dead giveaway.

I have been running my successful business for 45+ years in USA & Canada & their satellite outlets in EU/UK/etc. & required by law to have a registered business license for all areas so anyone saying they do not require one is full of BS. Friends selling minor stuff to others at flea markets & such don't need one because that is casual/occasional & they are not running a continual business but just a random sale on stuff they are trying to get rid of.

How is this related? What stops a legit business from selling a non-essential product for whatever price they want?

Re: Scalper DB 2021/05/16 13:03:50 (permalink)
It is very much related.
Most, if not ALL, reputable businesses have what society calls morals & ethics & they will NOT price gouge the consumer during rough times. Rough times would be defined as the pandemic with many shops closed during lockdown & many workers out of work with no income until the lockdown is over. Another factor of rough times is the semiconductor shortages & GPU shortages due to the increased value of cryptocurrency & unethical miners snatching up all the GPUs before regular consumers can get them.

Businesses that charge way over MSRP, needlessly, are classed as scalpers & unethical with zero morals & need to be vanquished off this planet permanently. People with morals/ethics will NOT purchases items from these idiots selling things way over MSRP because they will fight these scalpers with their pocket books :o)

My OEM distributors, that I have been dealing with for almost 50 years now, still sell all computer related items to me at original MSRP & offer discounts to loyal longstanding clients. They also concur that it is despicable for any business to price gouge their consumers during these times & recommend everyone stay away from those unscrupulous businesses because there is no justifiable reason to overcharge on items to make massive profits. When things settle down, those over charging businesses will be remembered by society & they can expect massive loss of customers because of it. Only idiots pay for heavily overpriced items when there is absolutely NO NEED to have the item when they could just wait it out & grab it at a reasonable price.

Hahaha, editing my original post to ask, what would the purpose of a visit be? What would you actually be able to do other than kick and scream that they have something someone wants, and sell it for more than you agree to?

Yeah, but your previous post sounded like they are required by law to sell at MSRP (which may be true only for necessities like food/medicine covered by price gouging laws).
So it is mostly about ethics, which may stop some, but not all, and most of the customers will not care/will not remember (or even will not notice because not everyone wants a GPU), also it may not be clear who is responsible: the shop or their distributors. No one is organizing any mass protests because they can't get a GPU for gaming. :D
And in some places people may simply not have other alternatives to be able to vote with their wallet. e.g. if I look up RTX 3080 in my country it seems like every shop is trying to sell it for 2000-3000+ EUR. But it seems like it is at least partially the distributor's fault because sometimes they appear for a bit less ridiculous price (these are mostly small shops, we don't have anything like Microcenter/BestBuy/Newegg).

No, there is no law in North America stating a business must abide by MSRP but most reputable ones only charge up to 17% markup to help pay their workers, lease on building, etc. which is totally acceptable to most people. I feel sorry for you with your countries huge prices on similar items that are much lower MSRP prices here. Hope it changes for you sooner rather than much later :o)

lol, this has to be the funniest post I have read. Scalper's DB? What if I sold a GPU for $50 over MSRP to a friend, am I a scalper? Stop wasting time worry about the scalpers and trust me, you will be more happy about your life.

Is there a database with a list of scalpers? I don't want to buy from them accidentally in the future when the shortage is over.

that is kinda hard to make because they can always change their names and create new accounts so updating that list is gonna be a nightmare. I would say just keep an eye on MSRP

the important thing is not to buy at prices higher than 20% of the price list.

That’s the only thing we can do, don’t pay the high prices. Imagine these guys who buy 5-10-15 cards to sell at a higher price and nobody buys them? They would lose all that money. Not to mention the time they wasted.

Would that list include authorized EVGA resellers or are they magically a different case because of "supply and demand".

There are no scalpers they don't exist everyone is just adhering to supply and demand like the retailers.

If you buy for the specific purpose of re-selling at a higher price immediately, you are scalping.
