I'm not too worried. If I can't get to 4.0GHz on air then that's not a big deal.

Question for you, even though the DRAM ratio is locked to a ceiling, can we still set the ratio to lower than the CPU is rated for, (set 1066 on a 1333 CPU)

Thanks

I suspected as much, just wanted a confirmation is all, thanks!

EDIT: Does the current SR-2 bios have the uncore unlocked? If not, I realise you may not be ablke to answer this question, but if not, is it coming?

Shamino what CPU's would you recommend for this board without breaking the bank but still can over clock well on air?  Also what coolers would you recommend?

First off, thanks for all your input and trying to help us owners and myself a soon to be owner.

I picked up on this little comment, however are there any blocks that covers the nf200's / chipsets yet?  I was looking around last night at various rad's etc, but I didnt see this.  Are there some coming out, as this would make sense.

Thanks.
Colin.

I have dual X5680s and Corsair 1600 CL8 RAM. I tried setting voltages and signals as shown in the first guide, but only setting bclk to 160. My machine boots up fine, but when I try to do anything that uses any CPU usage, I get a blue screen. Any advice?

Thanks! It says on the CPU box "Core: 1.6v" I was surprised to see it listed that high. Is that the maximum?

what? 1.6v vcore is far too high.

1.45v is max i'd reccomend for the 32nm chips unless you have cold.

shaminotheres no speedstepping as long as you disable cstate

This doesn't seem to be true in the latest version of the BIOS.  I have cstate disabled, and speedstepping is still happening.

Re:SR2 OC BIOS Template 2010/06/21 11:36:20 (permalink)
Actually I am having the same issue as Sharkman, C-State disabling doesn't seem to be working in the BIOS, I can disable it with the "i7 Turbo" tool from RealTemp, but by using BIOS and setting Windows to High Performance and setting the CPU minimum state to 100%. This isn't a major issue for me as I can toggle the C State with the i7 Turbo tool, would be nice to get it fixed in bios though.

Also I am having another issue, I can't seem to manually set my uncore, the option IS in the BIOS, I can see it and set it, but it doesn't seem to be working. Yes, I do have a Retail Chip, revision B1.

Oh, and one more note as far as the uncore goes, while the option appears and I can set it, it does nothing. The BIOS actually incorrectly detects my CPU's as B0's.

I currently have the uncore set in BIOS as 9x(1200MHz) however it does not work and is still stuck at 20x multi(currently running at 3820MHz @ 191 bclk, while my QPI is 3438MHz @ 191 bclk, and my CPU is 4202MHz @ 191 bclk)

My S-SPEC is SLBV3

What is your memory multiplier?  Uncore has to be at least twice your memory multiplier, so if you've got your memory at 2:10, you can't set uncore to less than 20x.

seems you are right, Intel locked the uncore again in the retail cpus, leaving only the ES unlocked

Re:SR2 OC BIOS Template 2010/07/06 19:13:19 (permalink)
Thanks for this Shamino, great help.

With my 5630s I'm running 19x200, with turbo mode auto kicking in with mult x20, giving 4GHz boot.

Its pime95 stable but my USB keyboard goes unstable. Tried .3v more on ICH and ICH IO didnt work. Then I tried a little more volts on VTT and Vcore, which didnt work either but I didnt go too far being on air.

The USB keyboard issue is less flakey when there is no CPU load - when I ramp up prime95 the cpus are ok but I cant type and it goes all flakey.

you can try using the optional floppy power connnector to see if improving 5v load capacity can help with that usb

Re:SR2 OC BIOS Template 2010/07/07 12:49:23 (permalink)

Afer numerous overclocking tests, i've found out there was many problems/errors due to bios.

Koolance psu 1700W

12x2G hyperX 2000 cl9

2x X5680

cpu ram and CG are actualy WC with very good system  (always souce cooling 18deg ) and rad stock for moss and chip,(and I wait a mips WB for moss and chip).
and in more day the CPU cooling by 2 evap with DOD (by tanguy ) in H24 at -45deg. héhé

pcie 1: areca 1231ML rev2
pcie 2: dell perc 4e/DC
pcie 3: nothing actualy
pcie 4: auzentech bravura
pcie 5: 5970
pcie 6: 9800gtx+
pcie 7: 5970

use bios 47

actual I run at 4.3Ghz

I have desactivate all  ide, ahci, sataII and III, usb3, and sound chip in bios .

  OC seting:

coef X 25
BLK 175
V CPU 1.37V  real 1.341V in cpuZ
VTT 1.35V
DIM 1.65V
IOH 1.30
IOH PLL 1.8
ICH 1.25

RAM all seting a 1333 ration 2/10

turbo mod desactivate (for test OC) and speed steep and auther unnecessary seting is desactivate.

    Primary part:

-Each time i try to run 3D application with 5970 crossfire, i get a BSOD. It seems to be a hardware problem because either OS or drivers cause any error.
I'm only able to  activate crossfire in catalyst drivers.
-Did anybody made a 5970 crossfire on this MB ?

     Secondary part:

-I'm unable to manage an overclocking in one time. I have to proceed in 3 steps.
-First for all, i have to "use" an intermediate overclocking (155 bclk). Thus, the computer, shutdown, then boot, so i'm finlay able to continue to the second step et apply the desired values.
If i make an o/c profile with final step values, when i apply it, that's the first step values that are applied whereas i made the profile with final step values :/
-Futhermore, this profile add unvolontary voltages change (CPU) and frequencies changes (BCLK & RAM)

and whene the OC is greate and work fine, whene I shutdow the config, when I start I have a FF beacause motherboard can't start in OC.

      third part:

- It's impossible to manage CPU shutdown temperatures.
- no "target memory frequency view" option in bios
- no bios option for boot post message frequencies (cpu & ram). It's a real lack. It would be really practical to be able to see if the overclocking is applied.
- little negative drop for CPU voltage & little positive drop for RAM (but very stable).
- When news parameters are applied in bios, Motherboard shutdown, then boot several seconds after. This might damage Hard drives of other part of the computer.
-bclk limited to 175 MHz, after i get BSOD when system boots
-where is QPI voltage ?

                        Good points :

- Very stables voltages
- Great voltage range !
- "signal tweak" is a nice option
- the capability to invert PCI-E is nice too !
- Areca & SCSI controlers a fully fonctionnals even if i use the stock bios.

I you have a solution for the 5970CF its my 1rst priority to solve.

       Thanks  for  T3D translation .
