Steve there are a couple threads on TAAT with good info. 10Tony started a guide and MarkFW had problems and a lot of useful help ensued.

Thanks yodap, will go and check that out, awesome....

I started playing with linux a bit today, using mint linux mate edition, for some VM testing.

I have 21 VMs running testing how much memory they need for light duty tasks.

Some Nice Linux Only CPU Tasks to run Quantum Chemistry Server Status Shows 84 Ready.
I have 19 Running using 30 Cores for a Single Tasks.
If you want to test running 2 Tasks running 16 Cores then set the BIONC Client to 50% and then Download some Tasks and after you download 10 or so then Turn Of Get More Tasks then Set the BOINC Client to 100% and see how they Do.
I would not Run MultiCore Tasks on a VM to note.

So Task Info (Application version Quantum Chemistry v3.14 (mt))
Run time:  18,285.17
CPU time: 470,081.80

Stderr output

I will test  running 2 Tasks running 16 Cores after my current Tasks Complete.
Rig Used View System

polarbeardj I would give WEP-M+2 Project a go on the VM side of Linux.
I have never installed and used VM on my Linux Rig.

You need to drop the config file in the project folder just like windows. Computer>file system>var>lib>boincdata>projects.
You need permission to the project folder. Right click>open as root, password.

This worked on 3/4 of my rigs (yes I have 1 problem child).

Thanks yodap and CoolGTX, much appreciated.

Will do that after I finished cooking dinner.
Deep fried crispy chicken and sweet potato chips, my boy's favorite...

Thanks Guy's, Appreciate your patience.

So got 4x CPU cores now on 1x task, excellent, another computer onto SOB.....
Ignor the completion times, as this photo was take just after changing over from single to 4 cores per task.

Next question, Looking to see CPU usage, I use Core Temp on my Windowz rigs, now looking for a Linux version.

If you are using XFCE, there's a standard "taskbar widget" that will show you total CPU/Memory/Swap File usage.
Haven't bothered looking past that on any of my machines.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Also Linux can patch CPU microcode for the BIOS in the OS when it boots.
Here are the CPU patched for the Intel CPUs that had the Spectre and meltdown issures

Thanks Bill, Much appreciated.

After this PG challenge, will move around a few computers for best CPU performance for the next challenge.
I got some older servers that must be upgraded or replaced.
And my 2x AMD rigs will now go, except for my FX 9590...

So now will tackle Folding, found a couple of good guides, so will look at those and learn some more command line..

Fah is started and stopped from the terminal, so it's a good idea to put those commands in a text file on the desktop. I also put a shortcut to the terminal there. Many ways to get the terminal open but a big fat icon is easier on these old eyes and my typing is atrocious.

Let us know if you need help with the Nvidia drivers.
