What are some of the rarest computer parts? Not necessarily because of how great they are (like the Mars edition 295), but just for whatever reason.

The only one I can think of is the Mars 295 and the Ares 5970 (how rare is this?). What about for other parts like mobos and hard drives?

I agree with kidcrumb. Ancient hardware that still work are rather hard to find on the shelves.

Also, there are those parts that are made in limited numbers, like the original X58 Classified with the NF200 chip, or the first ASUS MARS.

go to flea markets and stuff to see if you can find old hardware to sell for more.

the college teacher also had a really old mobo...like...REALLY OLD. it had a million chips on it. the RAM was built in and so was the CPU. the slots were the giant black ones (ITX???) and we actually got it to boot into bios. (me and touche)

we started to install windows 95 on it but after 2 hours the calss was over and 10% just wouldnt cut it. lol.

Your probably talking about ISA slots on an AT board or something similar. I'd have to agree, the most rare hardware is probably old stuff that still works. More modern hardware is pruduced in such great numbers that even if 5% is still left functioning it would still be a lot more units than working antiques.

Actually there is a company that bought IBMs factory and still makes those keyboards with the original specs and equipment. They even have a USB model. So not as rare as you think. an ISA keyboard port add-in card is probably more rare.

I'm guessing CPU's would make a great addition. Especially CPU's from companies that dont exist anymore. I have a Cyrix MII processor (my first CPU) 66MHz and read somewhere that the heatplate on the chip is made of gold including the pins. Here's a pic.
