This is the volume I was expecting on launch day... perhaps they had some sort of unexpected delay - congrats to all those that got your cards, and please post up which way you put the flow on the card & how your temps are, I'm genuinely curious if it makes any big difference.

Anyone getting a KP HC block, fair warning, it is INSANELY heavy - and I highly recommend hooking up the tubes to it before installing it in the slot (that might be obvious to some but I didn't think it through and it was not fun putting them on there with the card installed in the slot).

Must say the temps are nice... but I was also expecting slightly better core temps... but, I suppose that's the price of the RAM being cooled so well, VRAM Temps under PR load are only getting in to the mid to low 30s in the iCX sensors now, Memory Junction maxing out in the 50-54C range.  Yeeee bwoi... and that's with a +150/+1250 OC.

All the Blocks are heavy for 3080's vs past gens due to the size for sure....no need to try n connect tubes initially (I wouldnt recomend this at all as you risk fvrking up a seal on a compression fitting while manipulating the Card into the PCI-E Slot...just ensure the Card is secured at the IO bracket with 2 screws (although single slot bracket 1 screw is fine, just make sure its tightened right down.... more than enough support......then plumb...rigid tubing will provide some decent added support, Im using flex tube and no sign of sag, however I found a simple way to use a zap strap on all 3 PCI-E plugs (gather them together) and secured to one of my Bitspower fittings coming off my pump / rez for a little added support........SLi was great in that 2 Cards connected with an EK Terminal Block was perfect, very solid......

Curious why did you have so much trouble connecting your tubing after the Card was installed ? Rigid or Flex ? If flex a great trick for getting the tube ends over the barbs is to soak the pre-measured piece of tubing in very hot water for about 30 sec...softens it up and will slip right on like a glove ;)....then a little "spit" on the outside of tube, slide the compression ring on and tighten away!
After 10 yrs of building custom loops you figure the "tricks" out ;)

Tubing being stiff because it was fresh cut new stuff was the problem, learned my lesson on that, but then again, I won't be building a new loop unless it's for someone else, for at least 2 years.

So what ARE your core temps like now? And did the block help increase your Porte Royal score? And were you able to increase MEM clock?

EDIT: Woops, Nevermind, I see your post in other thread.

I'm so tired I haven't really pushed clocks yet.  When you consider air cooled cards run in the 70s, the block is doing a pretty good job.  Especially in combination with the backplate mods, VRAM is running cooler than ever before, I actually managed to pass Time Spy with +1250 which is something I couldn't do previously with this card if memory serves.

I'll work on it when I get up though, plan for the day once I wake back up is get one of my last non-primes to Prime in CS, then push some clocks on the GPU and do some stability testing since 4 sticks definitely makes me kind of have to start from scratch... settings that were previously "stable"ish won't even boot now, F9 boot loop in to bios reset, and all that is is 3800 memory, 1900 FCLK, with higher memory voltage but stock timings.  I may try that again but with the timings raised to 16-16-16-36-52, see how it goes.  I know having 4 DIMMs vs 2 stresses out the memory controller a bit more, perhaps bit higher SoC will help too, I only went up to 1.125V for trying to run that before I just went back to 3600 RAM/1800 FCLK because I wanted to run some benchmarks already.

Overall I'd say I'm pretty happy with it though, memory junction temp being that much lower is a big one because I really do think thermals were holding me back on my VRAM clocks - we'll see though.  The higher boost bins being hit because of lower temps on the GPU is making me have to start from scratch on Offset OCing too.  It's hitting higher clocks at the same offset as before now so while I used to be able to hammer +165 down Port Royal's throat for repeated runs with no issues, now it fails within the first 15 seconds because it's trying to boost 30-45MHz higher than it used to.

I do wish I'd swapped the paste, I did swap the VRAM pads that were on the block to 12Wm/K ones because I don't trust eVGA's pads after seeing what they look like when they're falling apart - but I'm not taking it apart just to do that, far too much work for what would maybe be a 1-3C improvement IF Kryonaut is better than whatever they used.

I'm off to sleep, after being up for almost 24 hours on 6 hours of sleep, what a stressful rebuild, but I'm overall pleased - especially with the whole "zero leaks" part of the whole deal.  I also had someone help me move the case on to it's face then it's back to work the bubbles out of the radiators more quickly while leak testing, lines are already bubble free, res still has the usual small ones in it that will work out over time.
But not having random spurts of bubbles shooting out of the 480mm radiator for 2 days after assembly is nice!

I gave you the tip for soaking the "brand new" stiff flex tubing in very hot water prior to installing onto your fittings......heres another...I have a very large loop with 3 radiators in a Corsair 900D Case....the whole thing probably weighs 50 lbs maybe more.....to speed up purging air out of my system (figured this one out a number of yrs ago as well...with your pump running and leak testing, every 10min to 15 min or so during the first 2 hrs....grab your whole tower....lay it almost on its side (both sides) as well as end for end....rock it back n forth while on its side and end for ended as well....do be afraid to do this (provided built right you wont hurt anything)......every time you do this you will here all the big air bubbles gather in the highest point and clear far faster...I'm not talking treating it like an egg...get medievil with it....I can clear all the air out (other than some teeny micro bubbles on the onside of the rez walls) in about an hour this way, then of course leak test over night....water heads love to share tips n tricks ;)

Sounds like your describing quite an epic journey with your loop :) Im about 4 - 5 hrs start to finish (not including leak testing of course) ...then an hour cable management....another step in the build is after installing all your Rad fans and case fans (if wired thru a fan controller), ....use the same crappy psu w jumper plug you use for leak testing ....and test all fans....can save some headache when that one fan isnt turning (for builds with multiple rads and 16+ fans).....
I have a crappy old $10 psu w jumper for fan n leak testing....plugged into the pump or Fan Controller Molex cable

Re: RTX 3090 Kingpin Hydrocopper 2021/04/29 23:27:36 (permalink)
Well the 8AM to after sundown thing is a bit mis-leading.  In the morning I had to get most of the components out of the system, clean the paste off the CPU block & the CPU itself, get all the fans disconnected from the Kingpin AIO radiator (and the 480mm radiator because it's literally impossible to get that thing in to or out of the case with fans attached to it because of the way the support beams are in this case).  Just doing that and getting the CPU loop out of the case took up until I could go pick up the block from UPS.  Then from around 10:30 to a little before 1 I was picking that up, dealing with another item being damaged so I had to box that back up for return/exchange, and eating lunch - then because I didn't start earlier, I still had to disassemble the Kingpin card, get the AIO off of it, get it all cleaned up & all the heatsinks & thermal pads removed from the face side of the card.
Then I had to take my time doing the liquid block install on the card because I didn't want to mess it up, especially once I decided to use my own thermal pads on the die-side VRAM instead of the stock ones - that's a 1-time usage type thing cutting those to size etc.  After that I got the loop partially drained enough to get started with tubing up the new pieces required, and decided at that point I should just do the loop assembly inside the system so I don't make the tubes too short or whatnot, so I put it back in the system, being careful not to let any leaking happen from the detached tubes, and began redoing/arranging the tubing.
After that came filling, which took a while as you can imagine with 2 radiators (the bigger of which eats ~450ml of liquid by itself) and leak testing with the lil' 460W eVGA PSU I got specifically for that, for about 2 hours while I also worked bubbles out by rotating the case...
At that point it was getting in to the early evening hours and I still had to put all the fans back in & wire everything up, which I worked on partly while it was leak testing.
Wiring up 20 fans to not look like complete garbage is rough, especially when more than half of them were either removed from the case completely during the swap, or had to be rewired anyway because I was switching the X3Ms from the GPU AIO radiator as intake, to the 480mm radiator as intake.

I knew it was going to be an all day project, and I didn't really expect it to ACTUALLY take all day, but at least I got it all done right the first time, no leaks & no issues thus far, and the block mounted properly.

Must say other than the sandwiching of the block & the card together initially when you're putting it on, the installation process is really pretty simple & straight forward.

Since I don’t have any card in hand to attach a custom block to, I’m hoping I can get a HC version to begin with.

If I can get in the queue at a reasonable position that is.

Now I wait, I'm currently on 9900k PC with two AIO's(CPU and Kingpin). I have a 5950x on order from Amazon but it doesn't come until June 8th-12th =/  . Have never done a custom loop before so not entirely sure what I'm doing. Need to figure out what exactly I need for Pumps/rads/reservoirs.

Does anyone have a link to some good Thermal pads that are adhesive on both sides?  Best I can find is 6w stuff.  I have an MP5 works back plate cooler that I want to stick on the back plate.  The back plate on the KP card leave 0 gap to slide any sort of clip under the edge.  Even if I 3d print some clips I can't get them between the backplate and the card.

Also any links to the best thermal pads one can buy for the KP backplate and water block (2mm) would be appreciated

It seems like a lot, I recently did my first loop. It's worth it. The best advice I could give is: "Don't rush it or you will waste money." I wasted a lot of money! I don't think I could ever go back to anything but a custom loop.

Finding a good 2.0mm pad is going to be rough: Here is a Thermal Grizzly 8 W / mK

It would be nice to know when more Kingpin cards are coming too... especially for those folks who bought blocks for cards they don't have yet.

There is no guarantee you will ever get a kingpin hybrid from the queue(Unless you are very close on the current release of the hybrid queue), honestly you should cancel your block order and try to get in on the hydrocopper block/gpu preinstalled queue right when it releases, unless you next up in line for hybrid.

I would not cancel the block, if it were me.

Anyone planning on using that front AIO copper plate on the back of Kingpin? Would that be a good idea?
