And congrats to you also with new card! I think the reason why we dident notice noise before was due to fan noise haha ... I really don’t understand how you can oc that much? It is beyond what is possible with that card and power limit.... There is a big difference in runing a bench and playing a intensive game like gta v ... that game is very oc sensitive ... have you tried that ? Also what are you using? Afterburner? Curve or manual tuning? And what volt to archieve that core clock? I have an issue with mine to begin with it would jump to 1.066-1.075 volt but now it stuck in 1.050 no matter what and that limits top MHz ( I did flash another 126% bios though) but also it’s runing hot with to much volt even on liquid cooling Right now I am runing 1.050 at 2070 MHz (before flash 1.066 volt and 2100 MHz) and I am experimenting with mem because it is very minimal what it yields in performance results so now actually 0 MHz but I had it up 500-800 MHz ...but a few times with even heavier OC there would be a burned electricity smell (happend twice) so I take it easy on the last high oc :-o But I am considering flashing back to oem FE bios as that seemed to work and perform better with my card EDIT: I did in fact flash back to FE OEM bios and got WAY better results. I had been through several incl. 380w and other with higher "power limit %" in afterburner... BUT with FE OEM I can run 2115-2130 Mhz on higher GPU vCore and +1000 on mem 100% stable (Bench, Games etc.) (With other BIOS I could max go to 700-800 mhz ..)

Flashing it outside its default BIOS pretty much voids its warranty and smelling that electric smell is not a good sign either like, really bad. lol

I've actually been playing GTA V exclusively since natural vision remastered was finalized a couple weeks ago. GTA V didn't like the +180mhz core +750 mem overclock I had but have been able to play for multiple hours on end at +200 core and+800 mem with no issues. The only benchmark I had issues with was superposition it would pass multiple times then fail out of the blue. But timespy extreme, heaven, and valley passed with no issues. To be honest I haven't messed with any voltage settings on mine at all and I'm still running the stock FE bios as I want to make sure this card isn't going to fail in case it needs to be RMA'd. Luck of the draw I suppose. I will say this is the first card that I've bought that was actually a really great ocing card, usually most of the ones I get are just so so at best.

Ok well I flashed back and watch this from another thread : Ok listen to this! very strange! :-o I flashed back to FE bios .. .changed my settings to yours only diff was 123% powerlimit. Guess what? Not only did it work with no crash it also made a personal record breaker (benchmark) AND now for the most strange thing! The card is now running much cooler!???? It came at peak in bench @ 73 g celsius before with other bios same settings it would smash into 88 g temp limit! (with 126%) and mid 80s with lower power limit! Thats a diffrence of 15 g cel. !!!! With same settings, same card only another bios.. that dosent make sense! but i am happy I flashed back because I felt it behaved odd after flash, you know better before.. but I dident pay attention of previous settings that much due to card is brand new! got it friday the 2nd nov.. But odd experience that in the end went back to good! But I guees my card werent that happy with your BIOS lol ! :D But now that I have some headroom temp wise to play with I could even try a higher core clock.. I know another guy with LC and FE.. he is runing 200 on core.. I dont know if it is game stable though.. Anyway great I solved it! :) Anyway I prefer 24/7 stable clocks so I am at 150 / 800 I can also do a 200/1000 bench clock but it’s not game stable

Turns out the waterblock is NOT seated correct! I used wrong screws (a bit too long) and thermal pads are not cut properly doh!
That’s why runing hot and strange behavior / smell bad lol haha ... I will fix it in a couple of hours .... I also flashed the 380 w bios in preparation. So my expectations are very high once the water cooling is sorted out properly ..
I’ll post my results later

Update from yesterday where bad seated waterblock, high temp- mess with mix in thickness of thermal pads..
WELL! I nervous took the 2080 ti PCB and waterblock apart.. I was kind of afraid because the board warped kinda some places when trying to remove.. I had no choice than carefully remove and proceed.
The bad thing I then noticed was due to too long screw the silver "mounting holes/pin" from the waterblock had come off!! 3 of them.. I had to use a plier and hold that while screwing from other side.. My mood was grim because the block is copper and that is very soft.. ! So i would expect the thread to be damaged! ... However I could screw them in with my fingers to begin with.. and carefully tighten with plier... wauv! sweat on my forehead!
A 2080 Ti costing a fortune kinda wanna warp and look like break coming off.. and 3 pins forced out of copper block.. I am not lying I was sweaty! 📷
I fixed the thermal pad same thickness according to spec and manuel and cut them precise.. put everything together and carefully the screw where one could expect picky threads in copper - but no everything got well tighten and assembled..
I installed the card, filled water in and moment of truth!
Stock speed 380W BIOS 3dMark.. fekkin´41g celsius ! (from 75-80g)
Full OC 380W BIOS 126% amazing 44 g !!!!!!!! That's very low, especially with so much power/current..
Wauw i'm happy and very relieved now the operation is over and went well ..
Instantly I broke all my record with few clicks!
3DMark 11 Graphics score 52170
Timespy 12414 (graphic 15941)
And im just getting started with the 380w bios.. these were quick numbers 126% / +120 / +500 Core was running constantly 2115 mhz, memory at 15 Gbps!
Wauw i'm happy and very relieved now the operation is over and went well .. And my coil whine got a little better! MAYBE due to proper cooling? (3DMark11 = worst coil whine)

Sorry for the late reply, wasn't watching the forums much in the past week. My highest stable clock was 2175mhz core and 7980mhz mem. I had a golden chip for sure, unfortunately the coil whine finally drove me nuts and I filed for an RMA. It was unbearable and I couldn't take it anymore. The new 2080ti doesn't overclock for ****, +130 core and +1000mhz mem. The samsung memory seems to overclock higher than the micron memory bit it took me forever to find the sweet spot. Just turned out to be exactly +1000mhz. I would've rather had my +170-180 core oc back though. Oh well, I'm still sitting 2100mhz on the dot consistently. It's not the worst card but also not the best like my previous one.

My FTW3 had more coil whine than normal and died after one day of use. Tried booting Battlefield 5 and kept getting driver error crashes. Then tried black ops 4 and it wouldn't load to the menu. Same thing happened in benchmarks. So I'd be wary of the coil whine.

Again, post #18. The answer has been the same for years, and I don't expect it to change any time soon. Sajin Fixes for coil whine...
#1 Put glue on the noisy coils. Only works if coils are exposed. Will void warranty if done. #2 Run ati tool overnight to burn the card in. Click show 3d view to start ati render test. #3 Increase/decrease voltage on the card. #4 Use frame rate limiter software to limit fps in game to reduce whine. #5 Try a different psu. #6 Try a different motherboard. #7 RMA the card.

Hi All, I am also cursed with terrible coil whine, trying some suggestions above. Though I cannot seem to get ATI Tool to run, keep getting a kernel mode driver error when trying to start it. EDIT: Okay it runs fine just without some features, and boy does that 3D view make the card SCREEECH!! Have submitted Support ticket :( Very frustrating to have a brand new card go so wrong so fast! arent there thermal pads between the backplate and the card? did you leave those on? would there be heat issues? i'm trying to fix my whine before RMA and i might try this

I have it on a brand new 2070 xc. Everything is brand new in the system. It ONLY, and I mean ONLY happens when a game is on screen running. I had bf5 running on screen with whine. As soon as I hit the windows key to minimize the window, whine instantly goes away.

I feel like this goes without saying, as a game would put the card under load, causing the whine to seem more pronounced than at idle. I have an RTX 2080 Ti Black Edition that will soon be under water and am curious if that will sort out the whine it's experiencing.
