I am trying to use dual monitors with my EVGA Geforce GTX 550 TI, but the graphics card doesn't seem to want to detect the Mini HDMI cable I plugged into it. I would like to know why this is happening and a solution to the problem.

    Welcome to the EVGA forums

You should call EVGA and ask them to send you another Mini HDMI cable (free)
*There have been some reported issues with the mini HDMI cables included with 500 series cards.

I was never given a Mini HDMI cable when I bought my 550 TI, I had to get one separately. I have a feeling it may be a problem with my cord, but I don't have another cord that is confirmed to work so I can't test it.

well, theres different versions of hdmi so the cord you bought might not work with the hdmi pinout on the card. do you have the specs of the cord you bought? also, what type of connection you useing on the other moniotor?

My other monitor uses a DVI to VGA converter. I'm not sure what you mean by specs of the cord.

well you cant mix analog and digital signals on multi displays, youll have all types of problems. they both need to be digital. dvi also has two differnt types, but they are both digital so you should be able to use them. thats probably your problem right there. you need a dvi cable, not vga with the hdmi. the hdmi is probably fine then.

That doesn't make sense. I'm using the DVI-to-VGA adapter that the card came with to output to VGA. The output is still DVI, but it's getting converted.

It is not the detection, or the cable.  The port on the hdmi for this card is too close to the case of the desktop.  You litterally need to shove the cable into the socket for the tv to connect.  I have noticed that a small move of the cable will dissconnect the connection.  The deminsions for this card is a failure

Thank you! This is the same with the PNY 550 Ti - I had to just force the mini-hdmi in there...

personally, i only use the hdmi for my 2nd monitor which i watch movies on.  Since the resoultion only gets to 1920x1080 your best bet is to go with dvi since you can get higher resolutions
