toyking22 i run a corsair hx 850 (gold) with not one issue at all, cpu and gpus are over clocked
Hi toyking22 How many watts is your system pulling folding those 980ti's?
i dont have a way to measure it yet, i was going to order a power meter reader in the next few months or so

I have a 750 supernova & was wondering the same thing as I am going to buy another 980 ti Classy this Christmas to run SLI So I called Brandon at evga tech support and he recommended the 1K over the 850 I feel its better to have more power than you need as it is an investment and future proof Regards rick

he already has the 850,, no need to spend more to have a little more head room when it would already work.

this topic will never end, not only here but on every forum you can find such discussions. the result is also always the same, one part wants enough power and the other part much more than that. JonnyGuru says it as simple as that: "add the TDPs of your graphics cards, add your cpus TDP, add 100W for motherboard peripherals etc. and a last 100W as an overhead and you are good to go" exactly the same way it works for me but some guys like to have an overhead of 300W, 500W and ever more. if that makes them happy, no problem, but technically it's not needed - it's a matter of personal taste.

I wasn't going to touch this thread... what the heck! I think you'll be fine with 850w. I would, however, try to get my hands on a meter and find out for yourself. I wouldn't assume 850w was OK, especially if you overclock. At that point you can upgrade if need be. I posted my parts list once and was called stupid by the 'Internet experts' because I was buying a 1200w PSU. I know plenty about electronics and hadn't asked about PSUs, but the critters came out of the woodwork once the topic came up. Some said 1000w was overkill. I quickly found out that I had to turn off the TV (240w) if I wanted to stress my PC. I might have have a 'suspect' breaker and plan on replacing it. That led me to borrow my nephew's meter and I found the PC was pulling 1107w under full load. I'm glad I didn't listen to some people that said 1000w was an overkill. Anyway, I went with a 1200w supernova so I had room to grow (I thought 1200w was overkill). If I did it over, I'd get a 1500w. I just didn't see any sense in spending money on a nice rig (980 Tis aren't cheap) and then trying to save a few bucks on the PSU (within reason of course). You already have an nice 850w PSU. However, I'd be prepared to get a bigger one if need be. For reference, I have a 5960x and 2 980 Ti Hydro Coppers. Overclocking obviously makes a huge difference. I'm going to buy a meter (verify that 1107w) and do some tests between stock/overclock.

I'm using one right now on my surround gaming rig . Running à i5 4670k , no o/c , a 980 to SC , a gtx 760 for physx . Called evga and asked if it was enough . Tech replied I can run 2 of the 980 it's in sli on it just fine .
WHAT THE WIFE DON'T KNOW WON'T HURT YOU! Main rig - i7 7820X , Corsair H110 cpu cooler , 32 gb Team G memory , Evga X299 Micro ATX 2 mobo , Corsair 850 psu , RTX 3080 , Win 10 Pro 64 bit , 43" TCL HDR 4K TV as monitor, Coolermaster HAF 32 case.

I had 2x titan x's on 750w at one point. Was running good but overclocking either the CPU or GPU caused instability.

You can talk about theory's all day. If you want to recommend people get a 1600w PSU to be ready for overclocking and having 20 hard drives, go ahead. But it's ridiculous, that reviewer uses a i7 5960X which uses 1.375v-1.425v to get his operating speed. That's twice the amount of power of a i7 4770K. He could easily get away with a gold/platinum certified 650w PSU on a GTX 980Ti set-up.

My rig: 6700k overclocked to 4.5GHz, 2 980ti kingpins overclocked to 1500MHz core and 8000MHz memory leaving the power target at 100%. I'm running it on a 1000W evga PSU. Used killawatt to check my max usage via firestrike/heaven benchmark, and it was 620W. Scored 25000 on firestrike (36000 graphics) so I know its operating properly. I was surprised, I thought it would at least hit 900W. I even bought a 1200W PSU just in case. Will recheck with OCCT, but 850-1K is more than enough. Your 5960 will add an additional 100-120W on top so expect 750W tops. One 980ti no more than 650W.

You should be more than fine with a 850W unit.
I'm running 2x980 Ti SLI myself in combination with an oc'ed 5820k, while gaming the system draws around ~ 680W out of the wall.
If you want to go for a hardcore OC you might consider buying a 1kW unit!

Best Most Thorough Answer So Far Many Thx, Plan to do a Mini Overkill Build using a 2way sli with the MSI GTX 980 Ti's, I appreciate your analysis on this matter at hand, was a bit concerned that my 1200 plat rated psu from evga wouldn't be enough, but most of the ppl including u seem to point the other way. Since most of my build revolves around heavy overclocking on multiple components simultaneously, max power draw was becoming concerning, but if 2 980 ti's possibly overvolted, and definitely overclocked don't tip the system i build, i doubt most things will. Anyway Thx For The Reassurance, I'm sure Tom's Hardware would agree too. Sincerely, Ryu Takeru
