So for the past day or so when i try starting up a game such as Rust or World of Warcraft my PC will shutdown and boot up to a screen saying it was shut down due to a power surge caused by a faulty power supply. (the Asus motherboards Anti-Surge Protection) I have had this happen 0 times before, ive had basically no issues with my rig since i built it 10 months ago. Specs are: Asus Maximus vii Hero i7-4790k with a corsair H110i AIO liquid cooling unit 16gb G-skill Ripjaws 1600 250gb Samsug EVO SSD EVGA GTX980ti SC+ EVGA Supernova G2 850w PSU (Gold) and a 1tb Western digital hard drive Things i have plugged into the PC are: Logitech G910 Orion spark mechanical Keyboard Logitech G502 Proteus core mouse Logitech G933 Artemis wireless Headset Nazer Naga Chroma Wireless mouse also my Logitech Z-5500e surround sound speakers are connected but usually turned off. Now a few weeks ago i was having a lot of power issues in my home where my window AC unit was tripping the breaker and blowing fuses. So there was a lot of turn on and off of the circuit when i wasnt around to unplug stuff to protect it from any surging that might happen. But my PC has been fine up till about a day ago. Ive been playing games, mainly Rust just fine for about 2 weeks with no issues. Today i logged off rust and opened world of warcraft and boom it shut down and gave me that error message. Now every time i try to play a system taxing game it does the same message. I forgot to add that it will run fine, i can watch streams, youtube, netflix or just about anything but its once i started trying to play a demanding game that would draw more power it triggers this surge protection. Hopefully i've covered everything, thanks for taking the time to help me out id really like to start using my PC again. Im hesitant to turn off the Anti-surge in the bios just in case it actually is protecting my components. I assume ill just have to replace the PSU but id like to hear your guys opinions on what the problem may be. If anybody can help me through this i would really really appreciate it.

I also wanted to mention that ive read the Asus surge protection can give a lot of false positives and some recommend shutting it off in the BIOS. I would try this but i am afraid that it actually is protecting me and if i turn it off i might risk burning up another component.

So just replace the psu and then retest the system. If you continue to get the problem turn off anti-surge and return new psu and re-install your old one.

I dont have the cash atm to buy a new PSU out right, i figured id try and get the current one replaced under warranty. Money is just too tight atm to spare $100.

I wouldn't recommend rma'ing the psu unless it's within the first 30 days of purchase. Products outside the first 30 days can be replaced with re-certified products.

I see, ill try and find another PSU to test with and see what happens. I might take a chance if i can narrow it down to the PSU 100% and go with a re-certified until i can afford a brand new one. Thanks for your help, also if any EVGA staff would be able to assist me in starting up the warranty process i would appreciate it.

An EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 has it's own "Heavy-duty protections, including OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), and SCP (Short Circuit Protection)"..ASUS Anti Surge Support is just extra, and arguably unnecessary, insurance..In the BIOS -> Monitor menu you can Disable the Anti Surge Support and see if that helps, people do..You're looking at getting another PSU or contacting EVGA support about an RMA..Some retailers have payment plans/credit cards if needed when cash it tight.

So basically turning the Asus crap off should be fine and wont burn up my other components. I might try it as well and see what happens.

Not necessarily. The protections on the psu may not be doing their job and your motherboard may be catching it.

Well i brought my PC to a family members house to try it out here and its still doing the same thing so its not the power strip or receptical at home. I am really on the edge about turning off the motherboards anti surge, its kinda scary. It just really sucks not being able to use my PC for however long. I guess ill just order a new PSU today then and hope for the best. Luckly a family member offered to lend me the money >.> Would you guys recommend a good one for my system? Price point isn't too big of a problem now as long as its not over the top.

I don't know what's ASUS Surge Protection, I think I have that too. But I didn't disable or enable, I leave on default and no problems with EVGA PSU from P2 series. SebastianM If you think they are worth it, I mean having one go bad kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth.
Buy 1000 P2. With him you will have Eco Mode Switch. For now 1000 P2 and 1200 P2 are smallest number of problematic units. Probably batches were good.

Well i have a update today. So i left the system running all night and when i woke up today i tried to boot up a game, it crashed as usual. But instead of going to the bios screen saying it saved from a surge, it just stayed off. The motherboard lights and mice/headset were still lit up as if they were charging, but when i press the power button the everything else kind of flashed on for a second and then off, it just wouldn't start up. I'm not sure if this says anything different or reinforced that the powersupply is in fact dead or dying. On the other hand i did order the 1000w G2 EVGA supernova so that should be here in a few days. Also my friend lent me a 1100w powersupply, its not modular and looks kind of old so im not sure if i should plug it in. I can upload some pictures of it if you guys want to see it and tell me if its safe to put in till my new one arrives.

New unit came early this morning, just now installing. Should i remove all the old cables or should they be fine. Feeling a bit lazy since its modular.
