HELP!
I just built this new system. Everything powers on, windows installed. Fine. problem is:
When the GPU (EVGA GTX 970) when connected to the PSUs 8pin+4pin my computer wont turn on.
I have the HDMI connected to the motherboard and everything works ok when the GPU is NOT connected to the PSU.
When the PSU is connected to the GPU, the entire PC will flash, but not power on.
Also, when the GPU is not connected to the CPU, the GPUs fan will turn on/off which means its getting power from the PCI slot (which should eliminate the possibility of the Mobo)?
What am I missing? Is this a dud GPU? Or is the power source not powerful enough? They are both from EVGA and 500w power is the minimum requirement so it should work?

Are you correcting the hdmi to the graphics card when connecting the gpu? The motherboards video out gets disabled when you connect a gpu.

No. The HDMI is plugged into the Mobo. The system will not power on AT ALL if the GPU is connected to the PSU.

I have tried the HDMI plugged into the GPU, The Mobo, and not connected at all.

    Tried that too. Same issue.

I also spoke to EVGA tech support and they deduced along with me that it is in-fact a faulty card. I also called Gigabyte (for my Mobo) and they blamed the power supply.

I really don't understand why the entire system wont power on if its just the card that faulty. If anyone else has any advice for me before I go ahead and have them progess a replacement on the card....

Which power cables are you plugging into the graphics card?  Can you take a picture?

    Your description is very confusing:

    8pin+4pin?  What!?!  Your video card has a 6-pin + 6-pin connector.  Not 8-pin nor 4-pin.

Your power supply has "2x 8-Pin (6+2) PCIE".  You need to plug one of each into your video card.  You plug 6 in from one plug and 6 in from the other plug.  The +2 on each hang out and connect to nothing.  DO NOT plug 6 into one plug, +2 into the next plug, and +4 from your CPU EPS power into that next plug.

It sounds like you are splitting the connectors up incorrectly.

    It should look like this:

Sorry I meant to say that they were both 6+2 Pin connectors on one "arm" of the power source. I have them connected like this for both the 8 pin (6+2) and the 6 pin (6) connected. Your image looks like a 6 + 6 pin. Mine is 8 + 6 pin (below)

I also tried rigging the molex connector with a pcie 6 pin. And that proved the same results.

See images of various attempts at troubleshooting to clarify:

Took the GPU to a PC store today to have it tested.

Turns out its a defective Video Card. Returning it today for replacement.

Thank you to everyone with your troubleshooting.!
