Forgive me if I’m not posting this in the correct area. I just got my ftw3 ultra 3080 today and installed it. Did the ddu and fresh driver install and everything. 3 separate pcie cables from an evga 850 GA psu. Did port royal and fire strike and getting above average scores and temps are really good. Games like warzone, halo, gears 5, iracing all worked well so far. Load up shadow of the tomb raider to run its benchmark and while adjusting the settings before I even run the benchmark the pc just completely shuts off like someone flipped the power switch. Reboot and try again and does it again. I’m just really concerned about what on earth could be causing this…anyone have ideas?

try ramping up your system/cpu fans. Also turn off ECO mode on your PSU, then try again see if the restarts happen...

Is this a brand new GA, or one that you've had for awhile?

EVGA had an issue with the GA line of PSUs with the higher end 30 series cards and rebooting under load. Contact EVGA and see about getting your GA RMA'd for a fixed version: https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

I certainly believe it could be a power supply but it’s strangely just that one game so far. Even higher demanding games like maxed out control and cyberpunk and it’s fine.

I had a similar problem with my 3090 and a Seasonic 850W Titanium - replacing with a DPP12 1500W fixed the issue. If you undervolt your card and the reboots stop, you have your answer.

It's more of a peak load type situation with that PSU.  But also remove all overclocks from the CPU and only run straight XMP (or even disable XMP) as part of testing.  I assume this is stock clocks FTW3 100% power limit at 380w.  Along with cutting power, you could also try the XOC 450w bios at full 118% power normal clocks, see if it doesn't hit power limit under load what response you get, but will probably shut off too.  Use HWiNFO or GPU-Z to read the power draw at the connectors and pcie slot.

it's your PSU i know with my 3080ftw i had to go to a 1000watt psu due to power spikes 850watt just wasnt' enough with all i have in my rig i needed a larger PSU.   From what others have shown the higher end gpu spike and cause reboots.   I just ran into again with a 6800xt Red Devil tried a 850 watt psu and same issue went to a evga 1000watt and no more reboots.

it's definitely your PSU. i had a 1000w GQ powering a Strix 3080 last year and the system would reboot randomly during gaming. switched to a 1200w and the problem stopped

Definitely a spike that's triggering a reset of your PSU. Like others have said, try undervolt and/or remove all overclocks and try again. If it runs fine, then there's your answer

Classic PSU issue. Even more so if you are overclocking.

Seems like after reading responses and checking some Reddit posts that the most likely issue is power spikes in certain games causing the power supply to completely shut down. When I get home I’m gonna check swapping off eco mode and check power draw. I use hwinfo64 so hopefully that reads power draw. Be my first time trying to diagnose a psu. It’s an EVGA 850 GA model and others have stated they had shut downs as well. I could RMA but I’ve never done that and not sure of the process. Would definitely want as little downtime as possible.

    what is your cpu\mobo?
had 3 random shutdowns with 3090 ftw3 ultra with my new 11900k\z590 apex xiii
one was in cp2077 at 4k
one was in pubg at fhd
never happened on my old 8700k\z370 with same gpu and psu.
maybe it's because of the raw BIOS and we have to wait for stable versions.

ATM, im running a 10700K with 3070FE, Im using a Powerspec 850W PSU from Microcenter, In Valheim, I was getting random PC reboots, if i didnt ramp up my system fans. It was ONLY Valheim that did the reboots, i could play for hours on PUBG, Rome 2 Totalwar, and Three Kingdoms Totalwar... So one day, i decided to clean my PC, I swapped out the PCIe power slot to one of the top slots. Before, i was on the last one on the bottom row. I switched off ZERO RMP mode, which is basically ECO Mode on the PSU. Now, everything works fine, I no longer needed to ramp up my fans. Valheim works perfectly fine and zero random reboots.

If I RMA this 850 ga psu will I have to ship cables as well? I’d love to just unhook the cables and swap in another psu…

If you are going to RMA the psu I would email the customer service and get a written response.  The last thing you want is for them to deny your rma after you mailed in your psu and then have to go through the hassles of trying to get it sorted after the fact.  Get it from EVGA, not the forum and do it in writing in case anything goes wrong.

I was just asking about the RMA process in which I would do directly through evga. Was just curious if you RMA a modular power supply do you have to send in the cables as well.

I had an older semi-modular 750 Corsair PSU + MSI 3070 card that when just logging IN to play COD Cold War, the PC would restart. So then I plugged in an older full modular EVGA 750 PSU.. same thing. This only happened with Cold War. Highly modded Skyrim or Fallout 4, no problem. So then I bought a newer model Seasonic 750 PSU, and no problem since. So point of this post, likely the PSU like others mentioned, even if it is only one game at times.

It's usually better to have some headroom in your power supply. Get more than you need. Could solve this problem.

The support will give you a guide what to include with the RMA psu and what not to include and you should follow what they say. All that being said I would NOT advize in favor of keeping the old cables because for all we know it could be a cable fault causing a short circuit that trips a psu protection. Just get a fully refurbished/new PSU or preferably buy a new and bigger one.

Meh. Could be motherboard too. I run a 3080 with 750w psu ...5800x 4.7 ghz all core.. Zero issues.. You dont need a 1000000000 watt psu for 3080s.. Just a reliable one with strong 12v rails. Dont be surprised if you replace your psu and you still get shutdowns.unoptimised bios settings...faulty ram , bad gpu...all can shut down your pc just as quick under load as a bad psu can.

you say while adjusting your setttings? You might of been adjusting some settings that are glitched in that game. It could be completely related to the tomb raider game.

Adding my 2 cents here.  Purchased the 850 GA last October to make room for my new 3080.  Experienced the same issues with the PC randomly shutting down.  I called and spoke to their customer service rep and he immediately stopped me when I said it was a GA and offered a replacement, saying that PSU was an issue.  They sent me a brand new 1000w G3 in exchange.

I just had some GPU problems and I recommend investing in 3dMark. Its on Steam right now for $4.50 and gives temps too. If you can, run the 'stress' tests (not just benchmarking) on both this card and one other card with comparable power draw in the same PCIe lane. if you get failures with both cards, then its probably not the GPU that's unstable. Good luck I hope this helps.
