AHowesThere's some g-sync 4k monitors but in 27". Smaller screen plus 4k has gota make everything in Windows tiny.

It does but it's a non issue, since Windows has a setting that scales up the icons and such so that the desktop and programs and whatnot remain usable. But yeah, if I turn the scaling off on my 28" 4K monitor crap gets really tiny. In some ways that awesome because it's simply a reminder of just how high resolution these beasts really are. I've got stuff scaled up so it's still smaller than it was on my 24" monitor so I get more usable space on my monitor, but still larger than unscaled so I can actually use it.

I keep vacillating between 175% scaling and 200% scaling at 4K.  Basically at 200% the interface is exactly the same scaling as it is at 1080p @ 100%. However, as you know, it is so much crisper and detailed.

I've got mine at 150%. It took a small amount of adjustment on my part to get used to things being a little smaller, but it does make my monitor feel like it has more usable space, which it certainly does. And I agree, things look much cripser and detailed.

I just fired up the Witcher 3 a week or so ago and played for a couple hours. OMG. At 4K that game almost feels like watching a movie instead of a game. It's by far the most beautiful rendered video game I've ever seen. I haven't downscaled to 1080p to compare, but at 4K it's simply stunning.

I'm on a 50" Sammy JU7100. On a smaller screen closer up, I could use a smaller scaling value.

Re: PC NOOB in need of HELP! Dual GTX1080 FTW Edition ACX 3.0 Wednesday, September 28, 2016 3:01 AM (permalink)
Okay, so after playing for about half an hour-ish i wasn't too impressed with the gameplay...maybe my settings aren't right?

I have turned all my options to ULTRA or very high depending what each category can offer me. Also resolution to 200% with 100% sharp details, and 100% object details.. My visual res was set to 1920x1080 and 59.94 frame rate. even after all this i was getting a little lag here and there...may because i was on wifi net since i saw folks in my game? i guess i can't play this game offline since it's online only game...correct?

ALSO, first i tried the 4k option but omg it was laaaaaaaaaaaaggyyy like screen tearing AF! and my game crashed when i tried reverting back to lower visual lol. i guess the 1.2 display port i'm getting tomorrow may fix this issue? also does it lag if my second screen is on desktop mode and changing desktop wallpaper every second? I will be playing this game more than an hour or so to see if I have a faulty card...

Thanks again in advance :)

I have no lag whatsoever in The Division or screen tearing on my Dell 4k monitor.  Like I said I get 40-50ish FPS.  And you do need to be connected to the net.  Even at 50FPS, it runs very smooth on my rig.  What were your temps like after 30-45 min of playing?

So I read through most of the posts and skimmed some so forgive me if this has been covered but! I know this sounds stupid but I just want to be sure as it was the first thing that came to mind. In Nvidia control panel SLI default is disabled you do have it enabled correct. Just wanted to be sure.

The high bandwidth bridges are the best, like these ones from EVGA. For what you're doing though you're unlikely to see that much benefit from going to it. At 4K you might at times, but at any res below that you probably won't.

In The Division I often had that bug where changing the video settings and hitting apply during a game would crash it. It's not your video card.

I have no doubt that at 4K the display port 1.2 cable will be helpful. On my 4K monitor it was necessary to get up to 60 hz refresh.

thank you. so i put the product on auto-notify because it is not available... :( also i even had screen tearing issue on my desktop when i first changed the res to 4k and it said it can only do 30hz. this is why i had to buy a display port 1.2

i just don't want any laggy res while gaming on the division is it because i only have 24gb memory ram?does that make any difference?

....i'll try to record from my phone if i can and post it here somehow....

MSI Afterburner or Precision X OC will show your card's temps.  You can configure either to show it in a On Screen Display while you're gaming.  Or place the app on a second monitor if your are running more than one.

If you decide to buy a HB SLI bridge just be sure to get the one with the right spacing for your motherboard and where the two cards are placed in it. I don't know what the correct spacing for your board is, but as an example, on my FTW K board the two PCI-E slots designed to be used for SLI require the 2-slot spacing.

I wouldn't worry too much about the SLI bridge. Just put the EVGA one on auto-notify and pick it up eventually when it becomes available again. There's really no rush, since the benefits you see with it will be modest.

I'm glad you're learning a lot here. That's the way to go. If you keep at it, when it comes time to upgrade your system you'll be able to make informed choices and pick the right gear for what you want. For now your machine will be fine, even if you might have done a little better with some of the choices. It's certainly a pretty rocking machine, whatever else might be said about it.

Guy! So i was just messing around with the monitor settings and decided to enable the freesync..... it did only mentioned AMD on the option screen but i enabled it regardless.... and all of a flipping sudden it switched my monitor to native 4k (3840x2160) !! no screen tearing and it is running on 60hz! i am like super happy right now :)))))) unfortunately my second screen only offers 1080P and running on dvi cable....going to sell that monitor and buy the same 4k which i currently have... finally that's something to be happy about atm... now time to play the division for 2 hours atleast to see if my graphic cards are faulty or not...wish me luck guys!! <3

P.S - also how i can show on my screen how many fps my game is executing? :/

AVG FPS - 9.0
TYPICAL FPS - 9.0
AVG CPU - 22%
AVG GPU - 25%

Apparently SLI is a wreck in the Division.

https://forums.geforce.co...ivision-sli-support/2/

Run it with SLI disabled and check your FPS.

To everyone!

I have about played The Division on Ultra 4k settings for about an 1 1/2 tonight and i haven't gotten the Black Screen of death <3 is there anything else i should be doing or I am good to go and enjoy my pc from here on? I am just a little disappointed that i can't optimize my cards to the fullest on The Division...kinda wasted my $80...i should've gotten The Witcher. The Division is awesome regardless.....just....you know....not happy about me not able to push 2 of my cards...until ubisoft fixes it? i dunno...

Yess!

" Your Answer:

Hello,

Both of your cards were shipped from our warehouse on 8/25/2016. What exactly do you mean by tweaking them for high performance? Are you actively overclocking the cards? If so, overclocking can cause the cards to become unstable and only the factory OC clocks can be guaranteed. If the issue only happens when overclocking beyond the stock clock speeds, then this may be a limitation of the specific chip."

Not good.. before Aug 30th when the fix was made. What would the odds be if there both free of the black screen?? Slim. Good luck testing them.

Witcher 3 was the gold standard in testing for for the black screen 100% fan issue. Would happen with 3dmark firestrike bench test as well bit not common. Others say just gaming. For me 30 mins or sooner in witcher 3.

Both my FTW cards were purchased in June.... Run flawless and peg Witcher 3, The Division and Doom at 100fps ultra settings on a Asus PG348Q, The 34" ultra wide. Hopefully he doesn't run into any trouble with his but it does sound like he got the short end of the stick with this machine.

I bought my first gaming rig in early 1998 from a boutique shop in San Diego. Paid nearly $3000 and after investigating the parts, they ended up being 800 bucks worth. Since that time, I have built my own machines as I vowed I'd never be ripped off again.... The amazing this is, high end computer parts haven't really come down in price over the years, seems like 3k is the magic number not including custom water cooling loops of course...

You need to tweak the fan profile on those card. Don't run them with the default fan curve as your cards will idle back when they get up in temps.

Also would be nice to see more pics of the fans in the case.. to make sure there blowing in the right direction. I bet they mounted the cpu radiator in the front with the heat blowing onto your hot cards. Should be up top blowing hot air out and cool air and a lot of it blowing in front the front for your rad and graphics cards.

Look up jays2cents on youtube. He has a bunch of 1080 videos. One were he highlights how to adjust just the fan curve to up your cards performance and another for overclocking.. but with heat like that forget overclocking for now. You gota get those fan kicking.

Get them up to what you can bare during gaming. Try 75-85% when the temps get to 50+. Idle should be in the 30s. When your gaming they will get to the 50s-80s so it will crank the fans when needed and not after the fact when your cards are already hot in the upper 60-70 range.

Also all that heat is blowing in to your case. The founders edition 1080s were best with there blower style air cooler as it blows the heat out the back and not into your case. But your card is better thrn those.. the custom coolers are best for single cards not runing sli with all that heat in the case.

You need good exhaust to get the heat out and good cool air flow to the cards. The new evga case does a great job in that department with its added fans on the left of the cards that would blow cool air into the cards as needed. No other case does that.

Talk to evga yet?

Hiw can I achieve those fps? Please lmk because atm i am getting 30 -42 fps

His monitor is 3440X1440 which is 4,953,600 pixels.  You are running 3840X2160 which is 8,294,400 pixels.  You are running 1.67 times more pixels.  The easy answer is to move away from a 4K monitor to get those frame rates.

Don't want to instill fear but for some there black screens didn't happen for awhile. Some 2 weeks some over a month later. So it can be something that wears down over time possibly. Though evga will have you covered if it happends but with the hassle of sending it back on your dime if after 30 days and getting a refurbished card in return.

Also would be best to test ea card separately to check for the black screen.

Witcher 3 currently don't use sli either.. it did before the last update I've read. I've heard there's ways to make your own custom Nvidia sli profile for ea game to get them to work but I've never needed to do that for my games in the many years I've been using sli.
