Hi everyone, I have a "problem" with overclocking of my i7 2600K. Overclock to 4.4 GHz, voltage 1.27 V. Max core temps 65–70 degrees, read by RealTemp (by E-eleet 60 degrees), its OK. However, CPU temp rises above 80 degress with stress by LinX, read by E-leet, Aida64 and POST on the board. CPU cooler is Noctua NH-U12P SE with two fans Scythe slipstream 2000rpm. CPU temp in idle is 48–53 degrees, core temps are 30–40 degrees. I wont overclock CPU to 4.6 GHz...I have be afraid of high CPU temp? MOBO EVGA Z75 SLI, bios version 1.22 Sorry for my bad english, Thanks, Major

Don't go above 80-85C for SB. Stay under 85C. I don't know but lot of people and me too notice high idle temps of boards for IB. I mean temps are 5-10C higher then on other boards. Casn you try with little lower voltage and 4.5GHz, I don't know how your BIOS look like but search little in OC section for Z77 FTW. Maybe you find there something useful. Don't leave VDroop on Intel Spec. Try different options, Off, 20% and be careful with temps. For my opinion that's high temps for SB. OK now is July but you have good cooler. Bad BIOS, bad monitoring, not accurate temps reading.

Thanks for your answer. bios on Z75 SLI almost looks like Z77 FTW. Voltage VCCIO, VAXG, VCCSA are set to auto. VAXG in bios read 1,25V, in E-eleet 1,11V. Idle: Load:

I have noted also that their is a big temp difference with the Z 68 SLI & Z 77FTW that I am running by 10 C....Z68 4.7 44C on air room temp 26c Z77 FTW 53C room temp 26 C....Z68 4.7 24/7...Z77FTW 4.8 24/7 water cooled...when testing the Z77 never goes above 68 C in stress testing...where the Z68 hits 74 C in testing....in idle their is 10 C between the two by that I mean the Z68 is cooler by 10 C...go figure..

That's last BIOS for you motherboard??? Everything look fine and same as mine. Mine temps with 3770K is in idle 48C on stock clock. But maybe temps are and accurate but that's because constant voltage and constant clock. Very little is difference on 4.5GHz. Your settings look OK, It's only way to try little less voltage and to check VDroop settings and try on 25% or 4.5GHz. You see, that is exactly same difference as on mine between ELEET and other softwares example Core Temps, Real Temps. Usually Real Temps is software for check temps, reliable and recommend from overclockers.

Yes, its last version, I tried older versions of bios (1.21, 1.05) and thing same. When I set vdroop to 25% and Vcore 1,25V = in load Vcore range is 1,24–1,26V but its unstable (LinX ..All memory usage) and temps are same. Ok, so most important are the cores temperatures? Thanks for your response!! ;)

Today I'm still not sure what is accurate. :) I never OC so high to temps cross some border even looking ELEET.

Before EVGA Z75 SLI, i had a MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 and I7 2600K overclock to 4,2 G with Vcore 1,24V and core temps are very similar to my overclock now. But i didnt see the CPU temp, so i dont know, whats the difference between temps. :(

I think it's better to look on temps inside cores because you have Sandy and Ivy. On AMD is every core same but their sensor is on different place. CPU Temps that manufacturer know best what is socket, die, ... Because of that I tell you Core Temps but pay attention on every temp just to be sure. If I'm wrong someone can correct me. On different motherboards sensors are on different place. I will search now just to be sure what is exactly accurate for Intel new generations of CPU. I think sensor inside cores. I never push own CPU to the limit and than every software for me is far in safe temps to look which one of them is true temps. And all of them are difference for 1-2C. Because you have Sandy never go over 80C, max 85C for hottest core in Real Temp. I would stay max at 80C.

Try disabling hyper-threading, HT will only cause negative effects in 95% of the games anyway, and should lower your temps by a significant number. I would never go above 80C with a SB chip, some say 85C is safe, but that's only 13C from the TJ max. I'm able to run 5.0ghz all day long and I stay under 62C loaded using a Hyper 212 plus air cooler.

Yes that drop temps, but example I leave HT Enable. I like that. I know most application not use that, he can OC better without HT but why I go on i7 than. 4.5GHz + HT excellent combination. He can that far in safe temps too.

Ok, thanks. I will try tune up 4,5 G with HT enabled and I will hope, that CPUtemp will still about 80 C :) its common knowledge, that HT is counterproductive in games, which are not effective use that. But I bought core i7, not i5 :) Thank you very much, guys ;)

That Core temps in Real Temp are mostly similar with temps I know for SB. But that CPU Temp and you say no that sensor on MSI board I don't know where is he.

Yes your stock clock is 3.4GHz that is good OC. You can try one day when outside is not too hot 1250V in BIOS and 4.5GHz - LinX 10 Run. Look temps during test. I don't believe 100% in these tests where 2500K is better for gaming. Maybe but I'm not convinced Result are similar that't true and very close but I would leave HT Enable too.

Try 1275V if pass try same but with 25% VDroop and I doubt it can help much but PLL you can try to Enable too. Don't go over 1300V for every day on AIR. But now I don't see reason to push CPU more than now. You have now 1000MHz OC. Now everything is high OC. You didn't put to much grace or to low and you install cooler careful same as CPU in socket??? Prime95 last version is good test for SB and IB, except Haswell he more love AIDA64 and CINEBENCH and SuperPI. Others are too hard for him.

Ok, thanks. I dont want PLL overvoltage enabled, because it may have a negative effect on the lifetime of CPU... Yes, Cooler should be installed correctly, CPU too, Thermal compound is Arctic MX-2, with Noctua NT-H1 thing same... I tried Prime95 and temps are very similar to LinX temps...

I change paste on my CPU, clean him with Arctic Cleaner, resit him, and clean dust from H100, what I find for few months from last clean that is impossible... :) My hands was black. My conclusion is LED on motherboard show normal temp of 37-38C on default settings, higher temps 45-48C are because constant voltage. With this voltage I can 4.2-4.3GHz to OC. (1.150) 25% VDroop. I will put on 50%. Now everything is ready for waiting Haswell E.
