Hey did you notice if it is really worth the jump from core 2 to i7? Im in the middle... My q6600 already does a great job, but tempted by the i7 or i5.

With your 275, an i7 would be a nice upgrade in terms of performance. But for me, FSX isn't playable anymore if I'm not overclocked to 4GHz or higher. If you can scrape the money together, go with i7, but if not, go get an E8400 and go crazy. FSX was awesome with my old E8400 at 4.5GHz.

Ok there are new .cfg tweaks that have been discovered, and I've used them to great success. Copy and paste these into each section in your .cfg (googlg how to find it if you don't know) and your good to go. This tweak is awesome. It gives me great frames 32 solid when locked on med high to high settings. [GRAPHICS] SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 (each time you edit the fsx.cfg, change this # so it rebuilds the shader cache upon loading) HIGHMEMFIX=1 STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 <--- This equals 2048MB, which is the max that a 32-bit application can use. [Display] TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70 [BUFFERPOOLS] UsePools=0 Tweak found in this thread. http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=184975

Yea, the tutorials are cool. I prefer props over jet engines, preferably the Cessna 182 Skyhawk... As an update I did build a new rig and the i7 was the silver bullet for me. FSX runs smooth and pretty... It was well worth the upgrade even with my old GTX 275 driving it! Just trying to sell my WC Kit and some autographed items to pick up a 480 or 580. I also play a little BFBC2 and would like the DX11 features...

Jeepn how have you been? Yes your system must be really nice now for FSX Do you really need that kind of horse power for the gpu plus the $$$. I have no problems with the 260, but what really made the difference was the GSkill Pro 120GB SSD. FSX really loads up fast now!

I agree the SSD will make a differance, just not willing to shell the cash out for one yet (one with enough space to hold the OS & games). I would like a new GPU for the simple fact of DX11 and running BFBC2 at highest settings...

The Thunderbirds F-16 simulator was made for the Discovery Channel a few years back then sold off. The interior of it doesn't even look like an F-16 though. It really needs to have the insides ripped out and rebuilt with an F-16 interior. The ejection seat looks like an ACES II at least. The F-4J sim is a real surplus Navy simulator and the T-33A is a real T-33A cut down fuselage that has been built back up with the proper cockpit setups again.

Man, those are awesome Brad... I bet those were some dime! I thought flyin on my 24" monitor was cool... lol Yea, not impressed myself with the BF deals. There are some better deals in the FS forums... I dont have the cash to buy right now, so either trying to sell a new Swiftech WC Kit I have or trade it, maybe in a package deal with my GTX 275 for a better GPU. As expected though, alot of the guys are trying to download there 480s for cash to move to the 580.

Those look awesome! You use the NVCP? I rolled my GTX 275 driver back to 182 or something like that so I can still utilize nHancer. Whats your settings in NVCP? Also, do you need an HDMI cord to get an HD picture? My GTX 275 only has DVI; do I need the HDMI to get 1080i?

No you dont need an hdmi cable for an hd picture. HDMI carries the exact same signal as DVI the only difference is that HDMI carries sound too. The only thing I had set in the NVCP on those pics was 4x supersampling in the AA transperency setting. Its that texture package that does most of the work. Its unbelievable! Especially at 5760x1080. Downloading the Tasmania textures demo now. I'll post pics of those too.

Thought I'd bump this thread since jeepn mentioned it over in the 500 forums. Also have a question, I noticed people saying they're using the NVCP to set anti-aliasing. How are you getting this to work? If I turn it off in the sim, and try setting it in the (global) settings on the NVCP it doesn't do anything and I have jaggies still. Am I setting it in the wrong place? I have in the past used NHancer and that did work, so I assume I'm just doing something wrong.

Are there "missions" outside of tutorials? Keep in mind, assuming the demo is the same thing I downloaded 4+ years ago when it came out, the demo is/was VERY unoptimized performance-wise but you will at least get a taste of how the sim works. There have since been two SP's one of which "significantly" (better than it was at least) improved multi-core support and other performance stuff. FSX includes free flight, tutorials, and missions. In free flight you can fly any plane in the game or any plane addon you buy or download (www.flightsim.com or www.avsim.com for tons of freeware stuff) and you can fly anywhere in the world except extreme north and south latitudes. Hopefully they will finally fix that in the next version but forever the the Flightsim world for MS has been more of a barrel shape instead of a globe. You can actually fly over the poles now I believe but that far north it's very odd and the land does weird things.

FSX is greatly benefited by optimizing and frame limiters. Also keep in mind the SLI/Crossfire didn't work last I checked on FSX.

I flew in FSX for the first time in months last night. I am experimenting with a 3D Vision Surround projection build at the moment. It surprised me that you can actually see decent depth perception in FSX with 3DVS. With how specialized FSX is, I was sort of expecting 3DVS not to work at all. I'm glad it works. I recently upgraded my projectors to Optoma GT720's, so I have spare Optoma EX525ST's that I'm pondering setting up for rear projection to do a 360 degree FSX setup with WidevieW. My forward view will be fully 3D Vision Surround enabled while my rear will be my old projection setup. 6 projector 360 degree FSX FTW. Most of the issue is just getting motivated to buy the lumber to make the screen setup. I just wish more games allowed multiple custom camera views like FSX can.
