I must warn you though...Punchy has this thing about "committing an act of graffiti" on graphics.  We are taking a collection to get him into "graffiti counseling", but are pretty well resolved that it may not take.

Well, you left me that nice big space at the bottom that was just screaming for an "enhancement"

Signed up.  Now I just got to balance between folding & crunching.  I may have to start up Mercury at the other house just for crunching so Quartz can keep folding at 100% power.

Crystal: Intel i7 930 3.6GHz(OC) / EVGA X58 758 / 3x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / GTX 660Ti FTW+ / 2x GTX 560Ti SLI
Quartz (mothball): Intel i7 2600k 3.8GHz / EVGA Z77 Stinger mITX / 2x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / GTX 660Ti SC
Mercury: Intel i5 3570k 4.2GHz(OC) / ASRock Z68 mITX / 1x 4GB Corsair XMS3 / 2x GTX 1660 Super
Cobalt: Intel i7 4710HQ 2.5Ghz / ASUS GL551JM-DH71 / 2 x 8GB / GTX 860m - Gaming/Physics/Astronomy Laptop

Heh...you'd still do the graffiti even if I only gave ya 1/16" of palette room...it would just hafta be a bit more exacting!  You're the modern-day version of "Kilroy".

I am not seeing your result either. I am not sure what the issue is. I hope others are not having the same issue but haven't noticed.

Edit: It just updated with your response. I am not sure why things were delayed.

You will sign up as normal. The form has an option for International users as well. At this point, international users will be placed on a team that needs balancing (usually Mountain Time), but if there are enough sign ups and interest, international users may receive their own team.

You can also choose a time zone you relate to, if you would like. For example, when I was living in Korea, I would have chosen the Pacific Time Zone, as that is where I am from and returned to.

PS: How did you get EVGA cards over there? When I was over there, they were really hard to find and marked up significantly. I had to get everything shipped when I wanted them.

Most BOINC project pages include your CPID on the "your account" page - look for "Cross-project ID".  It can also be found using the user search function at stats.free-dc.org.  Until you have actually joined a BOINC project there will not be a CPID.

The OP has been updated with new information. The crunching project lists are now available on the website Home page, and can also be seen here. The main point is that there are 144 projects that we are receiving stats for. 9 of them are in the GPU division and the remaining are CPU based.

GPU Projects:
  • Collatz Conjecture
  • Distributed Rainbow Table Generator
  • Einstein@Home
  • GPUGRID
  • MilkyWay@home
  • Moo! Wrapper
  • POEM@HOME
  • PrimeGrid
  • SETI@home
Remember that you may work on any projects in the division(s) you are signed up for. You are NOT limited to the projects suggested during sign-up. Please read the OP and the Main page for more details. If anyone would like to change or add divisions due to this information, please let me know.

On a side note, an anonymous donor has kicked off the prize donation with a $100 addition to the "Pool Prize". That alone gets it close to the first logical prize (in my mind), a GTX 750ti.

I signed up this morning as Folding only, but then I decided to start my laptop crunching since it's a bit of a waste folding. Is it possible to update my signup for crunching as well as folding? Also I have no idea what I can do crunching wise because I've been out of the game since about 6 months after the start of EVGA's crunching team. May need some help getting my laptop's GPU up and crunching as well.

Please don't lump POEM@Home in with the GPU camp. They do not have a running GPU task available yet. They keep coming across issues with the one they are working on. Currently there isn't even any beta tasks for the GPU at POEM.

That is precisely the feedback we are looking for on the list. I don't know about many of the projects, so I have to trust the lists that have been put up elsewhere. I will make that change. If there are any other projects that appear to be on the wrong list, please let us know.

I ran all of those projects recently except for Einstein@Home, Distributed Rainbow Table Generator, and Moo! Wrapper. Aside from POEM I think you have the complete list of projects with current GPU work. I bet yodap could fill you in on the three I have not ran.

We did post the list of GPU projects in the crunching forum yesterday and asked for feedback.  The GPU list was based on what was in the "GPU projects" stickies, so it's only as good as the information that has been posted (which says POEM has had a GPU app since September 2012).

This thread from last May shows someone getting 550K points per day on POEM using a single AMD 7950 card.  If we do remove it from the list, and the GPU work starts again during the contest, we'll have to move it back, as that is far beyond the points anyone can get from CPU projects.

Re: Official 2014 Time Zone Challenge Thread (Folding + Crunching!) 2014/04/07 16:56:40 (permalink)
I overlooked the GPU list focusing on the list you posted of projects I had ran. I just noticed the GPU listing today, my apologies 7im, err Punchy, for being distracted by something that pertained to me specifically and not noticing the GPU list right off.

POEM stopped using the old GPU app last summer some time and have not come up with a stable new one since. I will go try to find specific dates of when the old GPU project was stopped but I know for a fact there is not one now and they are having issues with the new app. I really doubt they will release one in the next month.

Edit: I did some quick looking over at the POEM forums and found this post. Looks like they started running short of WU's during the summer and pulled the plug on the then current GPU app in December for good. Plans were to have a new app up and running in January of this year but they have ran into several problems.

The POEM++ OpenCL project 'gpucrystal' is going to be finalized soon. In other words no more work units will be created, and as soon as the circulating jobs are finished, the queue will run dry.

We are currently working on a follow-up project, which will start in January 2014, accompanied by a new POEM release.

Thank you all for contributing your GPU power to this project. Please use this POEM OpenCL rest period to support other great projects in the BOINC network.
I'm looking forward to see your GPU back at POEM next year.

There are so many projects we can't all be current on the minutiae of each one.  That's why we need to be each other's eyes and ears, so by joining together we have the complete picture in the BOINC world.  That's why contest info is posted, feedback is garnered, info is updated, rinse & repeat.

Thank you sajinor and punchy for all the dirty behind-the-scenes work i know you're putting into this upcoming contest.  A contest is long overdue and bringing both "sides" of the house together this way is brilliant IMHO.

I've run all 3 of those in the last few days and all have work and run well. In fact Moo! Wrapper runs really well on 4 and 5 series cards.
I'll find that GPU thread and post it there.
