FanlessTech: Noctua's fanless CPU cooler is here Noctua's ambitious 100% fanless CPU heatsink, the NH-P1, was briefly listed on Newegg for $100. The heatsink offers clearance for standard-height memory and VRM heatsinks of most motherboards; and completely fanless cooling due to the sheer amount of surface area on offer to dissipate heat without the need for an active airflow. The design of the NH-P1 involves a nickel-plated copper base, from which six heat-pipes emerge passing through a gargantuan aluminium fin-stack. Noctua claims that the cooler can handle mainstream desktop CPUs without the need for fans. These include the Core i9-9900K, Ryzen 7 2700X, etc., which should mean that most non-K 10th Gen and 11th Gen Intel processors; as well as Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 5000 chips up to 8 cores should run perfectly fine with this heatsink. Among the CPU socket types supported are LGA1200, LGA115x, LGA2066, and AM4. For higher TDP chips, particularly HEDT chips in the LGA2066 package, the heatsink supports the mounting of a pair of 120 mm fans. That is one huge heatsink. Personally I would still use at least one fan on it.

Are there any thermal tests online or at least some charts ?

I'm extremely interested to see how this thing performs...so far I haven't seen any tests/benchmarks out on YT. Just bought the NH-D15 and love it, but it'd be sick if I could possibly go fanless with a 10850k. Not getting my hopes up, but who knows? LOL

If it performs as marketed image how it will do with some fans added to it :D

austin86 I ran a scythe ninja 5 fan less for a wile wiht a 1680v2 (130w tdp), some of these big heatsink on the market can really do a good job fan less with good case flow, so a heat sink meant to be used without fans has to be amazing.
What CPU did you pair it with though?

I will not be surprised to see a massive drop in heat exchange performance from forced convection to free convection. That is being said this will not work if you also have a fanless case and a fanless GPU. which is the core idea of this product. The performance of this will varies with the power of other fans in your machine. Usually, fin distance is propagated to create conditions of turbulence flow using fans. Without the fan, z distance needs to be increased to optimize the condition for free convection. This might not be compatible with other pressured cooling products if I attach a 120mm fan to it. Just my opinion.

Maybe I just need a better size reference, but their normal heatsinks are already pretty gigantic lol

this does not need Fans. that's the point. silent with high cooling performance unfortunately its really big... people dont really know how huge it is! it's "new" cooling tech but in its very beginning and these things are big indeed and not for every pc case out there

Gamers Nexus has actually been testing that, they should have a review out sometime soon
