Absolutely if you dont have a actual need for the upgrade at this point. At the least it will be the new pci-e, usb and chipsets and on top of that if you do want to buy the Z490 it will have a good chunk of money taken off cause of the new release.

Well, yes, thats a very real possibility although with mobo's ive only seen them launch and be really difficult to find maybe one or twice over the last 20 years. Thats not a typical issue with mobo's, but cpu's and gpu's as youve seen is common.

Definitely stoked about this but I also share the concern about new tariffs... literally waited over a year to rebuild based on Rocket Lake rumors just to find myself in a situation where there are no parts and those that do come in are getting to get marked up 25%?! Feels bad man

I got 5 G’s stacked for this rebuild but if parts go up 25% it’s like only getting 3500 worth of parts. Would much rather spend the 3500 and pocket the 1500 naw mean? Lol

I'm considering a 11900k Z590 build, but keep in mind that this is an end-of-line CPU, so you won't be able to use this motherboard again because the next Intel CPU release will be a new socket (supposedly).

My biggest concern is that because it is end-of-line, this is likely to be a limited release of both motherboard and CPU, and once the stock is gone, you're going to be waiting until hell freezes over to get either. I can see plenty of people scoring a motherboard and never being able to get the CPU, or vice versa, unless you're willing to pay triple to some scalper scumbag.

Hate to say it, but may be better off to go AMD if you want PCIe 4.0 in particular... although they have major supply issues as well, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also.. haven't tariffs been in place for months (if not years), and isn't China Biden going to reverse everything Trump did anyway? ASUS et al. putting up their prices now sounds to me like they are using the tariffs as an excuse to satiate their greed.

I dunno I bought end of a generation 4790k/Hero VII and I’ve been totally pleased. Only now as I starting to see things pop up. DDR3 is aging, PCIe 3.0, half core/thread count. Still, thing chugs along beautifully for the most part. It’s only when I attempt to tax it do I get issues but that’s to be expected from near decade old parts.

All of that’s to say, my plan all along has been to buy end of generation. The parts are seasoned and well refined plus I’m not gonna end up a guinea pig for an unproven/untested overhaul.

I’d take tried and tested over new and shiny for most things. Worst case scenario this build last 3 years instead of 7-8.

Keep in mind Intel also confirmed this CES that Alder Lake is indeed shipping at the end of this year. Assuming Z590 does launch in March then will be replaced in around 8 months.

I was actively looking for a Z490 Dark / 10900k setup. then came the Z590 Dark announcement. It looks so damn good. So I was planning for a Z590 Dark / 11900k. But then at the end of the keynote, they announced Alder Lake second half of 2021 which will probably require another upgrade.

So I am not sure if Z590 Dark / 11900k will be a good investment. Currently I am running a Z390 Dark / 9900k / 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming. Also stock is going to be another problem. So I might be able to snatch a Z590 end of this month ( As per MSI website launch date is 27th Jan) but to get my hands on 11900k (not sure when is launch date) will be probably almost impossible.

    I think a X570 / 5950X will be a better investment.

To be honest, the only reason that is keeping me from switching to AMD is Evga motherboards. I just love the Dark series motherboards from Evga. I'm pretty happy with my Z390 but I just love the new Z590 . it looks awesome.

Z690 or whatever they call it is guaranteed to be a new socket, and DDR5 memory. If you chose to hold out for it you will need entirely new kit. Personally I'm holding out for Zen 4 which will also be DDR5 sometime around Oct/Nov, and all this availability mess has made it extremely easy to do so.

I think holding out will not be a choice . I won't be able to get my hands on Z590 Dark or 11900k anyway due to this supply madness if I decided to go for it anyway. look at Nvidia GPUs. 4 months after launch and still it's very difficult to find any. same with AMD 5000 CPUs.
