This is very cool and long overdue

Suggestion:
don't release it as a separate application, have it open when you click a button in Precision (there's already a 'test' button in Precision that doesn't work with the vast majority of cards!).

Already done ;)
Now all you have to do is put the evga voltage tuner in precision like the MSI Afterburner and it will be a complete package.

Overclocking, voltage tuner, monitor and stress test all in one.

Re:New Utility Coming Soon to EVGA Owners 2010/01/12 13:35:28 (permalink)
If there was a way to dock percision to the benchmark/stresstast app, that would be nice, and a setting to allow you to auto-stop the stress-test/benchmark if the card gets too hot, that's one thing about furmark, I have to keep watch on the temp to make sure it doesn't get too high and I have to have two windows to watch temps, speed and load

Ideally I'd like to see:
1. monitoring with clock speeds and temps connected to the window (so we don't need two windows, one for percision and one forteh benchmark tool)
2. an option to set an auto-abort test if temps get higher than you've set the max limit, ( and perhaps have the max setable limit be like 105c, even though I'd keep mine at 90c just for extra safety)
3. Some way to tell what is failing when it fails, if the shader core is too high, the  GPU core is too high, or the memory, so we can easily find out what clocks have reached their limits and what can still be pushed farther when Overclocking.
4. Some way of saving data continually ( many once a second?) to the hard drive, in case of a hard lock up/reboot ( when doing very high OCing) so you could see what was going on before the crash, instead of having to try and qucikly catch the last thing displayed before a crash. ( yeah I know I'm being brutal to the cards :/ )
5. records of the benchmark scores, GPU clocks, temps, and Driver version, so you can easily compare benchmarks from one set of drivers to the next to see if there is much improvement.

My only suggestion would be to make a windows gadget form of this, and eleet.  kinda like riva.  and have it Show temps.

48GBs of Ram
38 cores
16Tb
never enough...

Jacob, kind of off-topic but, are there any plans to involve Unwinder once again for the upcoming GPU's and maybe for additional features in Precision?

Kind of off-topic too, but why to plan anything? Adding future GPUs support to Precision is my direct obligation per contract. So as soon as the Precision is alive - I'll keep adding support for new NVIDIA chips. Additional features is a different story though.

will the red E pulsate like on the Classified?

Might be a good idea to have it pulsate, apart from looking cool it could act as a visual indicator that your system has not locked up, a bit like the flame animation on the Intel Burn In test

I read at Fudzilla that SLI is to be supported, what about using a second card for PhysX, will that also be included into the mix?

another question, will this only be for the up and coming Fermi or will those of us with the GTX 200 series be able to take advantage of this?

btw i love the idea, just make it easy enough for those of us not familiar with OC to be able to use it.

will the red E pulsate like on the Classified?

That would be a tough task to accomplish with the artifact scanner.  The artifact scanner looks for pixels which changed between the last rendering and the current rendering.  If they made the logo blink, there would be thousands of pixels changing constantly and they would have to force it to ignore those pixels.  But then that would leave a pretty large portion of the artifact scanner unused because any artifacts which occurred inside the red E, would have to be ignored.

Fundamentally, if the program has a method built in to ignore some artifacts, it would really lower the accuracy of the test.  When it comes to artifact/stability testing, accuracy is important for quick results.

I'm probably the only one that's going to say this on these boards but:

I would like an integrated Dummy-Clock feature that ups the Core/Shader clock maybe 10% from stock. Not everyone is as patient or savvy an overclocker as most people on these forums.

I know the Dummy Clock feature on motherboards has been pretty widely accepted as an easy way to get higher speeds without going through the trouble of stress testing.

It already exists, SC, SSC and FTW edition cards. The come with an OC already on them, no need for an app to OC.

I love it. My question is. Is there going to be anything like automatic overclocking included in this test?

Anyway i love it.
