Ok, so I uninstalled the 332.21 driver, cleaned, and did a fresh install of 327.23 - driver should now be good.

Put client-type to beta on each GPU

Changed the -1 on the CPU for the number of threads to 10 (since the 990x has 12) - or should that be 8 to leave 2 cores free (1 for each GPU)?

Stopped and started the client and I still see Core 15 in the logs.  I'm assuming it need to finish it's current work units and the next ones will come as Core 17?

And I'm seeing around 31,000 PPD for each of the CPU - definitely no where near the numbers you are seeing.  I have the 780's set down to 1123mhz now.

Welcome scott!
I hate to say this but I believe the 780 is the one card that benefits from the driver you just replaced. When I updated to the 332xx from 326xx My points increased by 25k ppd. Wait for confirmation on this before you go back.

Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN 2014/01/20 12:24:05 (permalink)
Yeah, sorry, I meant to say ignore the driver advice for the 780s, but I forgot.  332.21 is the best driver for GK110 (780, 780 Ti, Titan).  I think this only applies to core 17 WUs, with core 15 not really caring which drivers you have.

I think CPU:10 should be enough to keep the GPUs sufficiently fed, but I'm not positive.  When I added my second 780, I stopped folding on my CPU altogether.  This is only a problem when running core 17, which due to Nvidia's not-so-great OpenCL implementation needs a thread/core per GPU.  Core 15 uses virtually no CPU time.

You are correct, the core 15 WUs you're currently running need to finish before you'll get core 17 WUs.  A given project will only run on one core.  At this point the only core 17 project in wide circulation is 8900.

The reason you're not seeing those numbers is because core 15 PPD is terrible in comparison to core 17's.  Core 17 uses the QRB that CPU projects have used for years now, while core 15 does not.  Core 17 is also more scientifically valuable than core 15, so the points should be higher.  At best each of my 780s gets around 60k PPD on certain core 15 projects, while others can go as low as 31k.

Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN 2014/01/20 13:50:08 (permalink)
Ok, I'm now at 10 threads on the CPU with 2 threads reserved for the cards.

The 327.23 driver was in place and the core 15 projects finished and the core 17 are now running on project 8900.  Both GPUs are on track for about a 4 hour finish for 29K - 30K credits.  Wow...  Core 17 + 1 CPU thread made a big difference !!

I'll switch back to 332.21 and see if the numbers look about the same or improve (hoping they don't drop).

The 332.21 driver is working well in the new configuration.  The machine folded stably all night and is now reporting ~340,000 PPD w/ ~156,000 rating for each GPU and 29,000 for the CPU.

Thanks for the assist!

Checking in here because I am joining the team!
My EVGA account name is "lootbag" and my F@H name is "lootbag", so I should be good to go for EVGA bucks right?

Also, I am reading that 332.21 is yielding better results now for GTX780s?
I am still on 326.80 with my (2) 780 Classifieds.
@1280MHz on the core, SLI on, I am getting 350K PPD.
Will I see greater PPD with the 331.21 drivers?

Welcome, lootbag.

If you haven't done so, you still need to go to your EVGA profile (from the main EVGA page, not the forums) and enter your folding name in the appropriate field.  Having both names identical definitely makes things easier for getting the Bucks.

Yes, definitely install 332.21.  The 331.xx series was noticeably better on my 780s than 326 or 327, and 332 is better than 331 by a couple of seconds per frame.

You do have a passkey and have it entered into the client, correct?

Thanks for the info, I will wrap up my current WUs, install 332 and hope for better PPD!
Updated my EVGA profile as well.
I've folded 2.25 million points so far, so i have the passkey and other stuff figured out I believe.

EDIT: With 332.21, I gained about 45000 PPD, nice!

Team number changed in the client?  Is your folding name the same as your EVGA account name?  If yes to both, I think you're good to go.

digitaldemon, I see here that you dropped your first WU for us, so that answers the question of whether you remembered to change the team number.  I noticed that your folding name has an underscore while your EVGA name does not.  You should PM EVGA_Rob about this, as he's the one who takes care of mismatched names.

Also, out of curiosity, what GPU(s) are you running?

Looking at your EOC stats (with and without the underscore) it seems something is up.
If your folding 24/7 and running 8900wu, you should be dropping ~25,000 points at a time.  Make sure you have the older drivers (323.27), and the "client-type = beta" flag set, along with a passkey.  A GTX 660ti should do ~65k-75k, depending on OC, with these things set.

It's funny you say that because the middle of last year I was doing over a million a month. Then in late August it just stopped. I thought I was just getting assigned different WUs. I don't want to use an old driver because I game as well. My client-type was set to "advanced." I changed it to beta.

I just sent an IM to Robb at EVGA asking him if he can address the slight adjustment in your EVGA name for you.  He is really great and I expect will get it fixed for you soon.

Now folding on Asus Rampage IV Black Edition w/ 4960x and 4x780 hydrocoppers.  Looks like 586,000PPD based on first hours of folding with mild overclock on CPU and none on cards. A bump up on the cards takes it to 610,000PPD, bump on CPU to 4.0 Ghz and cards to 1175 winds up in an overnight total average of 681,000 PPD.  Wonder how much is left in the rig...

actually if I recall my folding name is different than my forum name..ie underscore
it's allowed as long as you put the underscore in your profile - under folding name

it's just a way for them to understand it's you...

just imagine 200 john smith - folders...forum names and folding names
gets to be a real problem sorting it out unless they have a mechanism to handle john_smith_1,john_smith_2,etc

always a good idea to confirm with EVGA staff on the names too
