Still love my 580's they have been great cards and will hold me over for awhile. I'm not jumping the gun to the 600 series going to wait it out and see what the future has in store. R.I.P 500'ers

Wow thats kinda insane. Is it only the 580 line up being stopped or all 500 series cards?

Well done big green....great card. But it's time to move on to bigger and better things.

this is way better than the 200 series. Heck they EOLed and stopped producing them before the 480s were even released.

Nvidia definitely got their stuff together. Now if they would not have gotten all greedy and moved all the cards up a couple slots to make more money on lower end cards.

It's said that they stopped making 590s even earlier, not sure about the mid and low end 500 cards.

Things always change. A car built a year or two years ago is not the same as today's models. So it makes sense to stop production and move on.

sad, but beneficial for us. OC those 580s till they burn and get a GTX 680 replacement in no-time..hehe

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I would think twice on doing that. Right now EVGA probably has more 580's from people Stepping Up to the 680 then they know what to do with.

It's EOL. I don't really understand how that's insane. I don't hear about Ford making too many 2010 cars anymore either.

The only thing that disgust me are the high prices for this card. You can still find them for $500. Really? The same price as a freaking 680. They should be having a fire sale on the 580 right now. I am talking in the $250-$300 range.

Good to hear they stopped on the 500's. I don't think it would be cost efficient to do so anyways. It only makes sense. Good move on Nvidia to continue dominating over AMD/ATI

its not Nvidia's fault they cant make enough 680's, TMSC cant seem to figure out how to manufacture chips on a high yield anymore, same thing applies for AMD considering they still use TMSC (at least partly) at this point too. plus its a good move to stop the last generation after the current gen launches, why produce old tech?

Ive seen 580's drop in price alot since the 680 release. Like 350 or something now? Thats not awful pricing.

Well for us its great but for the company not so much. As emepror said, why produce old tech? Its not cost effective for the business to keep making them when something they make is x3 as better and power efficient. They know 600's is where the money is at and so thats how they will proceed. Continuing to dominate the sales charts with no competition from AMD/ATI

Looking around Newegg.. I think AMD has also stop production on the HD6950/70 as there is not much stock on those 2..

(Continuing to dominate the sales charts with no competition from AMD/ATI )

How can you dominate the sales charts if you have notting to sale.. the 680GTX stock just isn't enough to matter if it's not replaced in time to even make the sale to someone wanting the card..

Like others i will wait for the next big thing and hope a card like the ref HD6950 2Gb is reborn in the $250/300 range that offers the buyer so much much more then you payed for.

I don't see EOL products as a bad thing. I more often than not, purchase graphic cards about a gen behind. The 500 series was way out of my budget until the release of the 680's now I am finally able to afford a nice card. (560 ultra classified) that was purchased new.
