NVIDIA’s next-generation graphics cards are a complete mystery even after several rumors and leaks. While there is no concrete timeframe given when the new cards would launch, a listing in Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database (via TUM APISAK) may have revealed the next-gen flagship graphics card for the GeForce family.

Now, what’s up with that odd naming scheme and what’s GSS? GSS is the abbreviation for GRUS Sparse Solver which is a novel sparse direct solver that runs CPU/GPU compute simultaneously. This could be related to that as NVIDIA is known to provide researchers with their unreleased products, prior to the market itself. Recently, NVIDIA gave out special CEO edition Titan V’s to the top AI researchers. NVIDIA may have set a custom device id for this graphics card. The other theory is that GSS means something else entirely and we don’t know of it yet. Also, we have been hearing the GeForce 11 series more often nowadays instead of the GeForce 20 series which was reported by a major OEM manufacturer like Lenovo on multiple occasions (here and here).

Really? - you could have done a better benchmark  - like 4k rather than 1080p
at 1080  you would max out and you wouldn't really see any improvement

    Wccftech... lol. That is all.

I am sure nvidia is absolutely skipping rhe 1180/2080 and going straight to the TI without slowing down at all.

I saw this earlier and my immediate reaction was to dismiss it as faked.

Also, I don't think my 780s can hold out much longer. I mean--they haven't shown signs of wear, on account that I don't have a lot of time to game, but still.

I think it’s clearly fake since we would see a non Ti release first. Also we have already heard that laptops with an NVIDIA 1160 should be out this fall so a 1180 seems to be the top of the line naming for next generation products.

We need some competition, Vega was weak and Nvidia is sitting pretty.
AMD can compete indirectly, they have, by going after everything but high-end. Therefore, nVidia is forced to raise their own bar to make higher end worth getting. The only downside is nVidia will dictate prices of their high-end.

But you really want more power, it means you can afford it and competition has never been an issue, just get the best in the category and ignore the rest.

In all probability, Intel could also be going after nVidia's bread and butter, just like AMD. After all, marketshare is about sales volume against the total, not revenue or profits.

Of course, we enthusiasts aren't the only ones reading rumors, nVidia employs enough market analysts to get an idea of what and when AMD is capable. It's how nVidia has seemingly acted preemptively several times in a row. This is partly why companies don't respond to rumors and leaks about their unreleased products or roadmaps.

Exactly, what's the point games are just not taxing enough to make it worth it. I'll bet 1080p sells more too followed by 1440p then 4k. I can't think of a single game you'd need more than a 1080ti for and you could probably get a great experience at 1080p with much less. It's game developer that need to step up there game until then meh.

It's also the price gouged panels that need to come down for the masses and at this point, you'll need 4K to tax a high end GPU.

It's game developer that need to step up there game until then meh.
It's more of a chicken-egg causality issue: Devs want to make the most money, always, so they will aim for the hardware most people own since very few go out and upgrade just for a game (unless it's just that compelling).  Plus someone investing more in their hardware doesn't compensate by getting more than one copy of a game, so the devs don't benefit aiming a game at those with the best hardware versus everyone else.

As for the console-port conspiracy that others like to push, I don't generally play PC games that are cross-platform, so console progression doesn't affect me.

Even a Titan V isnt enough in a lot of games @ 4k res. I mean its perfect for 60 hz monitors, but keeping 120/144 fps , i have to run some things lower, cant max everything out on a few titles. But its a start :)

    We need more power!!!

    +1

    Titan V power @ $699.

Even a Titan V isnt enough in a lot of games @ 4k res. I mean its perfect for 60 hz monitors, but keeping 120/144 fps , i have to run some things lower, cant max everything out on a few titles. But its a start :)

Yes, but the next gen 1180 will have sli support unlike the titan v.

Its taking the top end out of the game that irritates me.  making a game that plays smooth at 4k on a console, not supporting SLI or CF  not having to earn all the eye candy and fps with a top end card, not utilizing DX12, and I could go on, is just wrong.

It's also the price gouged panels that need to come down for the masses and at this point, you'll need 4K to tax a high end GPU.

You know what? That's a really good point all we need right now for gaming is a RX580 and a great Free Sync Monitor save on both ends of the deal and have a great experience. Save your bucks for anything else.
