So is anyone going to monitor VRAM JUNCTION TEMP in HWiNFO?  Because that ain't the same as what's reported in X1.

I monitor it on mine all the time. Never installed X1 - don't plan on it. Instead I use MSI Afterburner - seems to work great.
I notice many people in this thread start by saying how they are using X1. Its got me concerned, too.

X1 will install a Firmware Update on most cards the first time it's loaded up, and occasionally update Firmware when a new version of X1 is installed.  Might want to look into it.  Also you can't control the 3rd fan on a FTW3 (or XC3) without X1. 
 
I used Afterburner on Turing and still use it occasionally, but use X1 most of the time now, with HWiNFO and Riva for OSD.

I also had problems, but on 3070-TI FTW3 ULTRA...New, just received, mounted in the pc and everything is ok. As soon as I launched PX1, it automatically updated the firmware. From there the LEDs on the right side of the gpu started to malfunction. I had to send the newly purchased gpu to RMA!

not sure about the light.. but im on my second 3090 ftw3 ultra too from new world.. my first one died instantly . my second one did loads of crashes, fans ramping to 100% etc .just lots of unusual behavior from the card. both cards were rev 0.1,  second one is going in for RMA now and they are going to supply me with a rev 1.0 card after lots of back and forth emails. 
have tested this with new cables.. also have tested the card in another system . same results.. tested my evga 1080ti ftw3 and a friends card.. no issues in my system with new world etc. 

i love evga . customer service has been exceptional . but 100% something wrong with whatever scenario is tripping the card caused by the game . hopefully the rev 1.0 card fixes the issue. because id like to stay a loyal evga customer .

My guess on this is its something to do with the memory and utilization. The 3090 is the only card with vram on the rear side of the pcb which is known to be warm already, so it wouldnt take much to overheat it. When vram gets damaged it induces the card to do alot of weird things, depending on the amount of damage of course.

I don't know ... there are many cards that are worse than other brands and that even heat up more but these problems have not been reported ... we should understand better.
