Update #2: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3445038
Update: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3180576

This is my secondary PC I just built in an Antec 300 case using spare parts I had lying around.

This isn't a modding project, so I didn't put a lot of effort into making it beautiful, after all the case is non-windowed, I didn't even try to match parts, so the fans used are from 4 different manufacturers, even the screws are of different style. The system isn't even overclocked as it's meant to be a backup machine in case I have to maintain my primary one or if I need to test something quickly.

The only modding I have performed is some basic "TheVerge"-like cable management using "tweezers", and removing the 3.5IN hard drive cage, but the latter wasn't done for this build, I removed it a long time ago to free up some space for a 240mm rad, when I just built my first water cooled system back in early 2010's. Yes, the case is from that era, thus I believe this system deserves a "sleeper" tag.

9980XE, 64GB, EVGA X299 FTW-K, 256GB SSD (RAID0), 1000W.

Do you think this build qualifies as a sleeper system?

Corsair PSU is a plus, nice air cooler, the air-flow could be an issue with that case.

Airflow and cooling is not an issue, I got Scythe 120mm bay fan installed in the top 3x5.25IN bay compartment, so it's supplying fresh air directly to the CPU cooler.

I haven't seen CPU temp go above 56 C during stress testing, at idle it manages to stay just below 30 C.

Besides 3 front intake fans, i also have one 120mm intake on the side panel (the one that was taken off to take the photo), so with 4 intakes and 2 exhausts I got plenty of positive pressure and the hottest part of the system is the videocard, but that's expected given the reference blower style cooler it got.

That's cool...I didn't know that Noctua made coolers that looked like that. I may be wrong, but when I bought my NH-D15 in 2017, I thought they only produced versions with the tan/light brown fans. Or I suppose you might have replaced the fans...

Anyway, that looks like a nice build. Kind of funny with the 1000W PSU, though.

This. The original Noctua fans were 3-pin, and I needed a 4-pin PWM fan, so I installed one of Corsair's 120mm PWM fan from an old AIO.

Thanks. Everything is running at stock, only RAM XMP is applied. CPU idles at 30C, GPU is at 35C. During gaming CPU goes to 60C, GPU is at 65C.

I moved the SSD array from the top 5.25IN compartment all the way to the bottom of the case to clear intake air path, front fans run at ~1000RPM, top and back exhaust fans are running between 300 to 1100 RPM, depending on VRM and SYS temps. CPU fan runs between 800 to 2000 RPM depending on CPU temps. I tried adding another fan in pull configuration but it only dropped a couple of degrees off and created a lot more turbulent noise so I left the CPU heatsink with one push fan only, just like on the photo.

My sleeper build upgraded with proper cable mgmt now 2020/12/17 00:04:36 (permalink)
    Before: https://forums.evga.com/My-sleeper-build-with-TheVergelike-cable-mgmt-m3121473.aspx

    Now:

    Specs: 10980XE, Asus Strix X299-E II, 8x8GB 4000 CL18, RTX 2070S, 128GBx2 SSD RAID0, 1000W, Antec 300.

For my secondary build I replaced the board with Asus Strix X299-E II (see below why), upgraded the CPU and the GPU to 10980XE and RTX 2070 Super, respectively. Populated top 5.25IN bays with a DVD-RW drive and a card reader, replaced most of the fans with quieter ones. For CPU cooling I got the cheapest 120mm AIO CPU cooler I could find. The cooler cold plate quality is sub-satisfactory, but the system isn't overclocked (apart from enabling XMP), so the cooler is fine, at least it works and I can't hear it.

The reason for replacing EVGA X299 FTW-K with Strix X299-E II is because EVGA board was EATX and it prevented top 5.25IN bay compartment from being populated with anything, so I went with a standard ATX sized board. The reason for replacing Noctua's cooler with an AIO is to have an unobstructed RAM slots access for regular memory testing.

Before taking the photo, I spent 15 minutes cable managing it. It's not for looks, but rather for airflow improvement.

    What do you think?

Glad to see you upgraded the cable management too. It may not be visible in this case, but it can still affect airflow.

As I'm upgrading my primary rig, I retired my 3090's from my primary rig into the sleeper rig and added them to the loop.

With a single 240mm rad the water does get a bit warmer, but still doesn't go above 38 degrees in gaming. Although the thermal sensor placement suggests it is not measuring the hottest part of the loop.
