I recently installed the bios update from the drivers page for my SC17 1070.  This fixed the super annoying tendency for the fans to constantly start and stop but now the fans hardly come on at all even when I'm ray-tracing.
This is going to cook my computer and now I'm worried about getting any work done because a lot of the tools I use will dramatically heat up the computer.

I have Precision XOC installed however the fan tab under settings is grayed out so I can't tell if adjustments are even possible.

I don't want to have to install some generic 3rd party fan control tool but it looks as if I have no choice.

Does anyone have ideas on how I can proceed?  I'd like my fans running at max when I'm using any 3D tools or running games.

What are your temps? Most people don't want their fans running at max...so I'd say if you're desiring to do something that isn't stock behavior, you'll need tools to do that.
I'm not sure how your question is related to a dedicated GPU when you're using a laptop.

Sounds like you need to reinstall the older bios.

He can also unlock the hidden BIOS options. There's a tab for custom fan controls which has 5 or 6 stages for ramping up speeds in higher temps. This is based on my personal experience with the older SC17 980m, BIOS version 1.08; if anyone has done this with the 1070 model they might be able to provide more info on it.

I couldn't find anyway to change the fan settings in the BIOS.

Precision X Mobile is able to adjust the fans.  Problem solved.

I was under the mistaken impression that this tool was the predecessor of Precision XOC and so I didn't try it until now.
