Hello,

So my EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 keeps crashing on me all the time while playing games (heavy ones specially that I can not play) even though my card is not even overclocked. It is on out of the box settings.
I did the basic troubleshooting on this up till step #4 (since it is crashing issue and not low performance) but nothing helped.

My PC specs:
CPU: Intel i7-8700k
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2
MB: GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB 3200MHz (XMP enabled)
PSU: Corsair RM850x, 850 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified
Boot drive: Samsung 960 EVO 500GB Solid State Drive M.2 NVMe

Out of desperation I tried my own ways of finding where the problem is since I suspected faulty card, I fired up MSI Afterburner and Kombustor benchmark.
First I wanted to reproduce the crash using the benchmark gpu stress and it did. It kept crashing every single time and that helped understand what is my problem (roughly at least).
So the crash occurs around 2 to 3 mins in during stress test, and that is roughly the time gpu temps need to go up to 65+ C. And every single crash happens when temps get to the high 60s or low 70s C. So I pumped the fan speed to maximum and ran the stress test again, and it ran fine with no issues at all.

Yes the crashes seem to be gone, but now the fans have to run uncomfortably loud.
I'm unsure why is this happening. If anyone have any idea why would the gpu crash near high 60s C? Are temps reading incorrect or what? Do I have other options than proceed with returning the card?

Thanks

    Hello,

Welcome to the forums. What speeds are your fans running at when you have them on auto vs what custom speeds you are having to put them at?

Sounds like you may need to return the card. You shouldn't have to max the fan out to keep the card from crashing. The card should be able to run on its default fan profile with temps in the 80's without crashing.

If the cooling system is not mounted properly it could give the results that you're getting now.

Did you try to remove it, change thermal paste and put it back on?

    The op's card isn't a hybrid model.

It doesn't have to be :) If the default (air) cooling system is not properly installed it could result in what's he's getting.

And since it's easy to check, better do it anyway imho.

Possibly, but you'd think his temp would be much higher if the cooler wasn't tight.

    Thanks.

When GPU crashes, fans speed are around 1900 - 2000 RPM if set on Auto. Temp is around 70c.
Ramping up fans to 100% takes it to 3700 RPM and no crashes. Temp is 57-58c.
I'm trying fans on 70% currently, 2600 RPM, 30 mins in the test and no crash so far. Temp is 66-67c.

I have never touched the card since the day I installed it. And as Sanjin said temp levels (if accurate) are completely normal for a 1080ti under stress test.

Another way to confirm this without running the fans faster, is to use the Debug Mode, in the Nvidia Control Panel under Help. This will cause the GPU to only boost to the default vanilla clocks under load versus the higher SC clocks. If this results in more stability, then you've pretty much confirmed, without swapping out hardware that the GPU is at fault. Unchecking in, restores default boost clocks.

Already tried that since it was part of the basic troubleshooting thread.
I did not help in anything, it kept crashing still

So after many weeks of trying, I gave up and wanted to use my warranty to replace the card.
In RMA steps, there is this "support ticket number" which I couldn't find even though I have a ticket open already. Where can I find that? :/

Another question, do RMAs usually replace cards with brand new ones or refurbished cards?
and do I have the option to upgrade to higher models pay for difference?

I believe you have to call in to get a support ticket number.

After 30 days it's suppose to be a re-certified card, but you could get a new card if they don't have any stock of your previous card. Within the first 30 days you're suppose to get a new card.

    No.

Could be as simple as the TIM does not cover the whole GPU - that 1 "section" gets overheated - even though the GPU "reports" good temps
