post released from filter Welcome to the EVGA Forums Dang, sorry you lost your GPU Is it still under warranty ? If you registered it - you can check. Also Customer Service can check by serial number If you are the original owner .. did you buy the optional extended warranty ? If that came from the thermal pad ... it did not cause an issue .. the silicone oils used are not conductive looks more like burn marks on the metal plate ... your photos are on the small side Use imgur or other free host for your photos Ultimate Self-Starter Thread For New Members

Thanks :( It's a sad day. I am the original owner and I think it only had a 3 year warranty when I bought it 4 years ago. Maybe I'm wrong so I'll contact Customer Service, thanks for the advise. After reading your reply I went and touched the oil on the plate. It was slightly sticky, which makes me think it isn't oil. That part of the GPU faces down and is behind the cooler so I don't see how it could have been something external that dripped onto it. I'm super confused now lol. I also uploaded zoomed in versions with original quality on imgur.

The oily substance from the thermal pad is non-conductive silicone oil and wouldn't cause that, like Cool GTX said. That's a component failure. Hope it's still under warranty.

If it is Not under warranty .. check into selling it for parts ... I'm always surprised for how much "parts GPUs" bring on eBay

It looks like a dual MOSFET driver which burnt up due to age. It happens. It's not too rare. I would say that its failure had absolutely nothing to do with the thermal pad's silicone oil touching it (and touching everything else which didn't fail).

Wow what a coincidence. just yesterday my Graphic card also burnt the same way. Had been playing witcher 3 for a while then closed the game and put my computer to sleep. When I came back and moved my mouse to turn on my machine it tried to start but then the PSU and motherboard lights just blinked and then turned off. I smelt something burning, thought it was my PSU. But when I tried troubleshooting and take components out the PSU started working when I took out the GPU. Exact same chip is burnt on my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW. I also bought the GPU in Sep 2016, around 4 years ago. Recently it had started giving problem that the screen would go black and fans spin at 100%. It could only be solved by restarting the computer. Now this happened.
