@ echrei I am attempting to use one with windows 8, it is going terribly wrong though, windows considers it to be a hdd with or without the drivers. Does marvell have any drivers out officially supported by win 8 yet, anyone?

Edit: I know this seems like something that would be easy to find but I have been unable to locate a definitive answer; What controller is actually on the sr-2 is it a dual lane capable one like the marvell 1982 or a single lane variant?

Is this thread still active?

Has anyone tried flashing the firmware or BIOS for the Marvell controller on SR-2. I'm thinking about it as the controller is taking a VERY LONG time to boot when starting the computer. I'm know what the issue is, just wondering how to go about flashing the BIOS or the firmware.

Do I need to flash both or just the firmware?

Yes, you can flash newer firmware on, it is a separate chip with a separate EEPROM, no relation to the system BIOS.

It won't gain you anything, though. Later firmwares behave the same in every way I have been able to check. If your controller is taking a long time to boot the disks, you have a duff component somewhere (cable, disk, controller).

Yeah, this problem started when I tried to connect an IDE DVD drive to the IDE connector. Strangely the computer booted fine initially - maybe 3/4 times, but after that it would always hang at the Marvell controller post (trying to find drives).

I figured updating the firmware would fix this issue. If you're saying it won't make a difference, then I'll stick with what I have....don't want to waste time trying to troubleshoot any other problems that may arise from updating the firmware.
