I believe it was his private helicopter. He leaves behind 4 children and his wife. He also holds multiple Lakers NBA records. RIP Kobe Bryant.

It's a sad loss and what is worst is hearing that the helicopter shouldn't have flown since visibility didn't reach the minimum requirement for flight. Not saying that is the cause of the crash but if it was then it's the pilot error which would make this something that could have been avoided.

The initial report on Sunday was 4 souls. Wife and kids were fine. Then 5 souls. Now 9 souls? Now wife and kids perished? What? Edit: Oh, do you mean the brother's wife? How can there be so much confusion about this? What happened to their flight plan? What happened to their radio communications? Usually when you open a VFR flight plan, you communicate the number of souls on board. What kind of fly-by-night operation were they running? One person reported that it appeared to have engine troubles, but circumstantial evidence makes it sound like CFIT. Fog was dense, they were searching for a safe route out of there, they ascended rapidly at the end (would not have been possible if the engines had failed), but crashed into mountainous terrain.

Regardless of why and how..it happened..and it's sad.
I didn't like Kobe's politics or his team..but that doesn't diminish the loss of life and the heartbreak friends and family feel.
He was a phenomenal player...a philanthropist ....a decent human (who doesn't err? Who doesn't sin? I know I do).....
RIP, Kobe. I pray your family finds solace and strength...healing and renewed joy...
