bradsour I actually think it's quite the opposite. The FTW3 was dumbed down from previous gens. It sets the K|ngP|n that much further apart.
I hope you're right. I think the jury is still out.
I personally think it's a mix of both. People are getting impressive numbers out of those cards that are showing to be good performers from the Kingpins, the FTW3s are definitely less "stellar" compared to their previous-gen counterparts - GamersNexus/Buildzoid's PCB review basically said the FTW3 PCB isn't that different from other AIB partner model boards, normally the FTW3 is pretty advanced and the gaps between the Kingpin & FTW3 are typically "more" of the good stuff, and more access to settings... this time around, the Kingpin has "all" the good stuff, FTW3 has very little... Having said that, I'm still very impressed with what my card can do so far, but apparently it's a bit of an outlier, the majority of folks are not seeing the power draw limits or clocks that I've seen - I actually may have gotten a golden chip for once, which is going to make deciding between it & the Kingpin interesting, depending on how easily I can hit that sweet 2200MHz OC on the KP. Hoping I get lucky one more time & get a decent clocker on that as well, then this 3090 Hybrid can go to (hopefully) a good home :-P lol We'll see, I'm hoping we get a big drop of all Hybrid types tomorrow since none of any kind dropped today - Likely it'll be the case!
What have you been able to push your 3080 to? I've been able to push to a +180 clock hitting a max 2165 in PR, averaging 2144. I can definitely see why people do custom loops, frees up that much more power for the GPU to use. I've got a push pull on my hybrid AIO, with all the fans running off the mobo. My memory is where my card lacks. I've seen others easily push their cards to +1000, but mine maxes out at +650 (both with air and AIO) before my PR scores start to degrade.

Guessing that's it for the day...been 30 minutes since today #1 slot got it and I'm "8th" (I realize this list is not by any means accurate) and no email. Perhaps when Jacob said 1 more he literally meant 1 more...but it's more likely that these lists only show a fraction of the actual purchases that took place at that time and we are much "deeper" than it seems.

It's entirely possible that it was just one card. Hopefully there will be a drop tomorrow before they shut the doors for the holiday.

My 3080 has been gone-gone for almost a week now. I can't remember exactly where it capped out, it wasn't an amazing clocker but it did well enough. I never really pushed it to the absolute max, https://www.3dmark.com/pr/420691 that's the max I saw in Port Royal, looks like it was +150/+800. So nothin' special.

Don't be so sure, when I go the notification for my 3090 it was at 1:30 or so my time, which is 12:30 Pacific. There's still tyme, but it's possible today is a straggler day & the next big drop is tomorrow.

What am I misunderstanding about the "drops?" Does EVGA ship as the supply trickles into them, or are they sitting on XXX amount and only choose to ship out a few cards per day?

There could be more. But I think these lists found via the forums are more complete the more enthusiast level the card is.

My rudimentary understanding is that they ship as they get in...with maybe as much as a one-day delay between arrival in their Brea, California - based warehouse and shipping out.

We got a decent-sized drop last week, but just one report today. We are through 65 queue spots on our self-reported queue in just a week or so.

In the case of the Kingpin card specifically I'm sure the process takes a bit longer than any other card, because they are supposed to be "binned" meaning only the top 1-10% or so of 3090 chiplets get put in to Kingpin boards (this is something Vince has said directly, and I don't think he has any reason to lie that the Kingpin GPU dies are binned) - it seems to me like they are getting batches, just like the other cards, but there may be more time between each batch. Having said that, the time between when the first "queue" that happened on the initial launch day last month, got their cards, and the time that they started shipping the newer queue that opened up a few days ago, wasn't that long - maybe they had extra cards, or maybe they got two shipments at once. I would hope that we get a full drop tomorrow, I think today's was simply a few people from Friday that decided not to purchase and thereby rolled over on to today, because that's how the system rolls (it doesn't send emails out on Saturday/Sunday).

LOL! The binning process to make the Kingpin card would take place in the factory in china long before it ever got to CA for retail shipment distribution. Binning has nothing to do with these drops. There is a bit of noise in other threads about several people bricking the LCD display on the Kingpin via firmware update. They got they RMAs sent out rather quickly (like next day). So quick that I am thinking they ate into this batch...

Good thing Vince is based in Asia. And, yes, RMA issues are sure to eat into new purchase queues...this has certainly affected the regular 30 series queues. But I do believe we will have a KPE drop tomorrow (possibly Wednesday morning...definitely this week).

You do realize Vince is literally AT the place they make these things, right? He works in their R&D department there. Saying binning has nothing to do with drops of cards that are binned... k then.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but the "drops" I was talking about are these releases to ship. They don't ship from Asia, they ship from EVGA HQ in CA. I get that between the 8 hour time limited order window causing a few cards to "free up" and some RMAs taking away some stock as well it can lead to only a handful going out on a given day. I was trying to understand if they trickle them out on purpose or because of some internal capacity ie number of workers or truck/dock space available for X amount of TOTAL shipments of all different products on a single business day or if there are cards literally arriving to them today, and being made ready to ship tomorrow and that's what triggers the bursts of emails one day and none the next. If I had to guess the whole process is JIT. Hope you are right about more tomorrow or Weds!

There is certainly a limit as to how many the units they can ship out of Brea per day. We saw that last week when some KPEs that were ordered before 2 pm PT didn't ship until the following day. I am not sure whether that is an artifact of a cap on how many they can handle per day or whether the UPS truck(s) simply ran out of room that day. This has been thinking, however, that unlike their normal SOP of getting out the cards they have in inventory each day (saving some for a small on-hand inventory for RMA issues), the "massive" drops we are anticipating on January 5 may be spread out a bit that week.... I am hopeful the first week and a half or so in January will provide material progress to the queues.

I'd wager the big dropolas will be spread out for sure throughout the week of January 5th. They'd overload their UPS people otherwise, since we're likely talking about (at least) hundreds of units by that point, using just the Kingpin original queue & second queue being over 200 units shipped in less than 2 weeks. Would not be surprised if that actual number of cards stacked up by the 5th is in the medium 4 digits, keeping in mind they have so so many skus to fill, which are typically spread out throughout the week, but will be all piled up before they reopen fully. We'll see. I'm still hoping we get some decent drops tomorrow. Not expecting my Wednesday, though I'll be watching it like a hawk just in case to insure mine ships before 2pm if I do get the noti.

Dabadger84 I'd wager the big dropolas will be spread out for sure throughout the week of January 5th. They'd overload their UPS people otherwise, since we're likely talking about (at least) hundreds of units by that point, using just the Kingpin original queue & second queue being over 200 units shipped in less than 2 weeks.

100% And yes, defer other duties on 12/23 until 2:15 pm PT or so. Good luck!

One question I've been wondering is: How many 3090 Kingpins are out there so far? I'm sure that someone else has already looked at this already, so I probably missed that speculation. But anyway, the card serial number appears to contain a part of the product code (3998), and maybe the last few digits are just sequentially assigned and iterated for each Kingpin card off the line? So if I take the last three digits of my serial #, add the number of people that are listed as having received and purchased a Kingpin after my position in enewt's Kingpin tracker spreadsheet (40?), then we're in the low 400's. But I'm sure there are plenty more humans (and bots) that never self-reported (maybe three that didn't report for every one report? a key piece of data we'll likely never know), so then instead of adding 40, we might need to add 120, which puts us at about: 500 cards As a corroborating observation, note that the first tranche of 118 people was filled, and the bulk of them (80) reported as having bought the items. The second tranche is about 65 people in, looks like most (40?) have ordered. So, we multiply 120 users that self-reported as having bought a Kingpin so far by our best guess (x3 = 360) at how many didn't report, we're up at 120 reports + 360 non-reports = 480 cards Given enough users reporting their last three digits, running the German Tank Problem on the serial numbers could probably yield some interesting observations as well. All assuming my guess of sequentially assigned and iterated serial numbers as being true, of course. I figure something like 450 - 550 Kingpins produced and shipped so far.

@Lukexcom, it is an interesting question. I read it as follows (not too different from your take): I 2X the initial 24 second tranche...so approximately 250 cards from the November queue. I then more than triple the December queue as it was better advertised (and certainly had a longer window...which continues). All in, I am at approximately 475 units distributed to date.

Yeah, that's a good point about how well-advertised each tranche was between the forum membership pool and the general gamer market itself, and the effects on the probability of a buyer from each tranche self-reporting their purchase. So far our guesses are pointing at the near-500 mark. How sensitive should the last four digits of an EVGA card serial number be considered as (i.e. in terms of potential for abuse or other shenaniganry if re-assembled into a full, working serial number)? I'd love to get a random sampling, assuming it's not sensitive.

My boy arrived today! Unfortunately will be a week or so before I install it as I'm waiting on some other parts to come in first before I rip my rig open but I definitely went ahead and registered this sucker. ^.^

I am fixing my daughter her lunch. I will add you to the sheet in about a 1/2 hour or so. Thanks for reporting your time stamp.
