I've been building my first PC and bought a ROG Crosshair VIII motherboard and am having issues with connecting my power supply to it.

The power supply i got was the EVGA 850GQ but the cpu power cables have a different shape and cannot fit into the motherboard 8 pin slot properly. I bought a cable that does fit it but not of EVGA brand then the components fail to work but without that cable they will work (minus the CPU of course) . I was wondering if there was a solution that I'm not seeing here. I'm attaching a picture of my motherboard female connectors for reference.

Thanks

    Welcome to the EVGA Forums

You are a new member & there are limits on what you can post  Ultimate Self-Starter Thread For New Members

lets see if we can figure this out

the CPU cables should only fit One way ... PSU end is the 8-pin & the  MB end is the 4-pin +4-pin

The little latch should align with the bump on the MB socket to lock it on

The cpu connectors are universal on motherboards and power supply cables so your evidently not aligning the 2  4+4 connectors together properly or you have them turned upside down.  Looks like your motherboard has a 4 Pin and an 8 Pin connection on it for the cpu so you would put 2 of the 4 pin connectors side by side with the lock tabs pointed up top in the 8 pin connector on the right and then you would also put a single 4 pin connector with the lock tab pointed up in the left side connector.
