Ok after a week of CTDs and Freezing across games. My machine straight shut off on me at the clicking start at the title menu of Rise of the Tomb Raider. I'm switching back to my GTX 1080 till this sorts itself out.

What card are you running?

Looks like I'm waiting for an official announcement and then going from there, you guys make good points in regards to SS and Driver support. I still think EVGA will most likely go the way of releasing vBIOS to bring these down. Sucks, but...GPU Boost isn't guaranteed in their spec.

XC3 Gaming, 5POS + 1 MLCC so standard config.

I have an XC3 Ultra and have not ran into any issues with a 105 overclock on the core.  I will say since I downloaded PrecisionX1 I have received 2 firmware updates.  EVGA has good customer service with a 3 year warranty to boot.  I would keep the card and if you do have any issues then you can contact customer service.  On the other hand this is all speculation for now and hasn't been confirmed.  It could be the person or persons with a power supply that can not keep up.  I would recommend using an 850w gold or better.  Don't jump on a band wagon without knowing all the facts.  I watch Jay's video and they could be on to something but it could also be a different issue.

They will issue a firmware fix to keep the cards from clocking too high.  Having said that, I am now kind of glad I didn't score one.  I may just wait for a card from nvidia directly.

Kinda my train of thought too...  may be a blessing in disguise that you didn't get a card at this point.  Heck, I've been 3.5 years out from a GPU upgrade, might as well wait a couple more months at this point...

Possibly because you are on air and hitting a thermal limit.  If you put a block on that nvidia GPU boost will automatically OC your card causing possible crashes.

Which I'm moving here since it's a more relevant thread swapping back to my GTX 1080 has stabilized things significantly so clearly GPU is a factor though probably not culprit. I'm pretty sure the crux of the problem is the 650W Seasonic I've been trying to skirt by on. I have a 850W Titanium being shipped and hopefully that will help a lot as my friend who has a 3080 XC BLACK has been running stable on a 750W supply.

Stock GPU Boost caps at 1950 for my 3090 FTW. During my OC'ing, I was able to get to 2065 MHz without crashing. I stopped there because I didn't want to go too ham on air. So the 3090 FTW's should be fine.

I have been having trouble just sitting at desktop with media rolling on both monitors. Not sure if a g-sync issue or a driver issue but my monitors will flicker after some point and I'll get "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." in my event viewer.

Other than that my 3080 XC3 has been running great in games, just weird oddball circumstances that force the driver to fail. Not sure if hardware issue or driver issue so am waiting for a driver update before trying to RMA or anything. Apparently this can be a PSU problem so I'm upgrading to 850watt from my old 750watt I got in 2012. I've been through all the motions: DDU, windows reinstall, etc, still will get these flickers. My monitor that is g-sync is an ASUS ROG PG279 if others have had this issue. I've now disabled g-sync as a precaution.

Will update as drivers/PSU comes out.

This has been an issue. Believe JayzTwoCents has a good vid on it.

The JTC video might be a bit over the top.  Let's take a breath and weight for some additional confirmation.

Just watched Paul's hardware crash 4 cards going over 2GHz in semi-real time (including FE and Asus).
TL:DR - They all worked without issues out of the box.  OC past 2 ghz will crash to a varying degree.  Zotac was the worst, but doesn't matter since all cards out of the box works fine. Tested 1 game, he knows that limitation, but it's more info available to others.

The crashes in the Paul video was due to overclocking past the silicon limit - it has nothing at all to do with 2GHz

There are new NV drivers out that are supposedly addressing some of the crashing issues.

Currently under construction
