I have a 970 FTW my processor is i5 3570k at 4.2ghz, Nvidia backend currently takes about 30% of my cpu, is that normal? what does it even do? If I am correct this only checks for updates, so why is checking for updates eating all my cpu. sorry if the question is on the wrong section of the forums.

It's called GEFORCE experience. Google the issues it provides. Use DDU and remove it, never reinstall it. Use the "custom install" option and only install the physx driver.

DDU? I did google it barely anything comes up on how to fix it. ty_ger07 First, define "NVIDIA backend".
 bsmegreg GeForce* Experience...

I honestly though it was just a part of it, not the entire thing. but thanks

To use DDU download the software (below), but don't run it (yet). Then donwload the newest GPU driver from NVIDIA's website to have it available for later. After you have those two go to Control Panel < Applications and uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver, the rest can stay. From there the computer will revert to default graphics and you can restart the PC into safe mode. Once in safe mode, run the .exe of the DDU software. Once it is complete restart the PC and install the NVIDIA driver that you downloaded earlier. Remember to use custom install and as Scarlet-Tech suggested, you should probably only install the PhysX driver. http://www.guru3d.com/fil...nstaller-download.html

A few weeks ago I couldn't get GEForce experience to even open. Uninstalled everything, I just clean installed my OS and only loaded the latest driver and PhysX driver. I noticed experience eating up CPU as well when I had it even though it would not open.

Scarlet-Tech https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=geforce+experience+problems I don't know how you didn't come up with anything... The internet is flooded with GEForce experience horror stories, as well as These forums. The program is toxic bloatware. I wish NVidia would stop offering it in general. https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/110/geforce-experience/ here, this is the GEForce experience forums showing how amazing the software is.. It gets a golden 1/10 for being as good as it is.
I was playing Assassin's Creed IV last night, trying to utilize Geforce Experience's built in FPS counter, and it killed the game, making the FPS drop in certain areas (e.g. The Nvidia introduction logo when launching the game - LOL ) and poop to 3-7 fps. Then during the game itself, when I hit the start button, the FPS drops would come back again, and it would, again, drop to 3-7fps to the point it just froze. I tried doing CTRL+ALT+DEL, and that just literally froze my computer. Had to do a complete cold reboot. I then went back into Geforce experience, turned off the fps counter, turned off the whole shadowplay thing, went back into ACIV.... All problems went away. A game that is designed around Nvidia's amazing features can't even play right while using Geforce Experience. . . This was the first time I tried using Geforce Experience, not to its full extent, but just for a simple FPS counter, and it killed my "Geforce Experience"... I won't do that again. The only reason I had it on my computer (still do) is because it lets me know when there are updates available. I have all my settings customized via the Nvidia control panel (which people should be using in the first place)

EDIT2: Question, how do I know about updates about drivers? anyway to make them go on my email or something? http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/tag/drivers/ Subscribe on the right corner, click email icon, input email, done. Anyone know of a good alternative to shadowplay? use it quite a lot. EDIT: So I did exactly what you said, apart from actually installing the audio driver. But I still get Nvidia BackEnd. ( no I don't have geforce experience installed) Gonna test if it eats my CPU later, I still don't understand why you wanted me to only uninstall the Graphics Driver alone, but I guess that DDU uninstalls it anyways. Also never understood why Nvidia put HDMI to be limited colors and make the black opaque. Thanks for the help.

A good alternative to Shadowplay would be to use MSI Afterburner. It has the ability to record streaming video w/audio. Just assign a hot key to record. I use it all of the time. The latest drivers and version of MSI Afterburner can be found at Guru3D before anywhere else: http://www.guru3d.com/files/index.html

Yeah I've been looking for a couple of good settings, anyway you can use the same encoder ShadowPlay uses so that it doesn't stress your CPU? I am guesing NV12 = Nvidia Compression, just wanna be sure. I know OBS can and it's called NVENC or something like that.

I just use the default settings. I don't remember changing anything and I have uploaded videos to my YouTube channel when I was just fooling around trying to see how it worked. I have very little if any performance impact while recording streaming videos.

Its possible your computer has a friend you don't know about. Try using DDU again maybe and before installing the graphics driver you could see if you had NVIDIA Backend running. If you did then its not legit.

I'm not sure if anyone even pointed it out... Nvidia Backend (NvBackend.exe): This startup item is typically related to the game optimization and update functionality in GeForce Experience, but in more recent GeForce drivers may be installed even if you don't install GeForce Experience. If you don't use the game optimization or driver update notification features, it can be disabled with no negative impact. http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_9.html

I just did another test... I turned Shadowplay on, launched Assassin't Creed IV, after the ACIV splash, game crashes. I turned Shadowplay off, launched ACIV, and the game starts fine. Plays normally. I exit the game, fire up Shadowplay, start up ACIV, and the game crashes past the ACIV splash screen again. I, again, turn off Shadowplay, launch ACIV, and the game starts and runs like normal. my first experiences while using Shadowplay have become a nightmare, unfortunately. And have concluded to just uninstall it since I never use it.

Part of the reason I moved over to AMD... The other reason was no logical processing cores in their regular Geforce cards, then the titan x lacking double precision, something I do use within Maya with crazy calculations, its why older generation Titans outperform it in Maya.. then of course nvidia removing my question about the Titan X on social media... and finally having to have the Geforce Experience to get the latest drivers and game tweaks... Just had enough. Would I rather be using Nvidia? Yes. But will I? Nope, not going to pay more for less and be forced to use bloatware, and the principle of it all. Not saying my Fury X is a bad card, I do enjoy it and I can play anything at 1080p or 1440p, but it lets me have my cake and eat it too when it comes to work/play.

Try using MSI Afterburner video recording, use these settings I believe this uses the same encoder/shadowplay method as shadowplay, figure it out by myself. h Don't suggest using none of the Video capture compatibility properties, most specifically "use dedicated encoder server", also please be aware that I think you can only record "full frame(native resolution?)", you can choose between file (hdd) and RAM, don't know which to suggest as of now, but I think HDD is better for larger files.

When I loaded my drivers all I installed were driver and PhysX and I ended up with backend in mine as well. It doesn't use any of my CPU but a few MBs of memory, not enough to give it a percentage. then again 30 MBs of 16 GB is nominal.

Really wondering If I should get 16GB of DRR3 or just wait till I make a new build and build a new PC with 16GB DDR4, though it's gonna be pricey.

Honestly I was only trying to mess around with GE because it was the first time I decided to experiment with it. Mainly it was only used to inform me when there were new driver updates. I use the control panel to do all my custom settings to the graphics card, so there was no real reason to have GE other than for driver update reminders. I always thought that MSI afterburner was used for just overclocking the GPU, but i'm totally wrong on that. And, since my PC is mainly EVGA hardware, it's sort of a buzz kill for me to have non evga software controlling evga hardware . I guess I'm a fanboy after all, but I won't knock other people for using other hardware or different software to make their PC top notch.

I mean I don't hate the precision software, this just has more features and almost does everything (from what I've gathered) the same. I do enjoy Precisions interface more.

ohnasti what Nvidia is already talking about shoving GFE down every users throat just so the users can receive driver updates and game optimizations. Why are they suddenly adding "nvidia backend" in, when it was not part of the driver previously? What is the purpose of shoving this onto computers that it wasn't on before, and what purpose does it serve? Maybe they accidentally exposed it, kind of like the accidental addition of the remove hardware bug in the last WHQL. maybe it's been there all along and no one noticed because it was a hidden task. Think the 3.5gb+.5gb thing with the 970.. Nvidia doesn't care, as long as no one notices what they are doing, they won't say anything. Heck, they didn't say anything after it was noticed, they just walked away from it.

I refuse to upgrade past 359.00 for that reason! If a driver installer has to download a file during installation and call home to verify said installation, forget it. Nvidia only cares about Nvidia. Check out guru3d forums, no one has seen or heard from ManuelG in almost a year. They basically left us out to dry, but who cares right? Im not going to the red team, haha.

Nope.. not yet at least. I just tried a AMD based laptop vs an intel, and the AMD was atrocious! Their gpu's are not the same, obviously, but AMD needs to get competitive.

It could be possible that they let ManuelG go because he was one that cared about the customer base, and not about that bottom dollar. And while the ones that care about that bottom dollar are the reason they let ManuelG go, because he didn't see eye to eye with them. Or, perhaps what he was doing with the customer base to make the customers happy cost Nvidia money. Who knows...
