My only concern with the current EVGA "3x8 to 12" and "2x8 to 12" adapters is duty cycle. Breakdown of the 41s looks more like a beefed up buss bar and less volatile to damage during management and maintenance.  The quality of the cables from the PSU are a different qualifier.

I agree 100% with your assessment of the 41S. I also have my name in the auto-notify, just in case. But it is overkill for my needs.

There doesn't seem to be any good info to tell us for sure if that plug cycle figure is truly real for all those connectors. The Corsair guy seemed to think it's "some connectors" but not widespread. He said there have been no failures at all in their lab.

What makes me think it may be overblown is that that 30 cycle figure was in that special test situation and it happened to the connectors only when the cables were also abusively bent. So, is it some that were poorly made? Or is it widespread due to the design of the female pins used? It seems to me that they could be more robustly made and still fit in the connector housing.

Until we get more data I will trust the psu brands and their oems that have a quality reputation like EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair and Super Flower (both brand and oem).
I believe that in their testing they would have plugged and unplugged so often that the defect would have been discovered. Especially EVGA because they test their own cards and their own power supplies.

It's irresponsible for JayzTwoCents to yesterday make a video telling people that the connector is rated for only 30 cycles. If the official rating was only 30 cycles then it wouldn't have been used until redesigned in my opinion.

I just prefer avoiding pigtails.  Already covered "clean" power with the Corsair.  4x8 is nice though...so long as nothing gets cooked.  This GPU was the single most expensive piece of my build in progress.  pcpartpicker.com/list/zCn2Bj
ll the cables in the world, THE GPU won’t request any more power than the board itself will allow. PSU’s do not push power, the give power, so think of the PSU as the hose that provides water, and the GPU as the valve that allows more or less in.

The GPU says “I want more” and the PSU says “sure, why not”.

Have 4 connectors just means it can pull the power across more connections. The dual 6 pin PerFE cable still provides clean power across the 6 pins, because the 12 pin side only uses 6 negative and 6 positive. The main difference will be the temperature of the cable itself, which will be way way under the maximum rating of the 150c temperature maximum, and the maximum wattage rating.

I love adapters in general. They make life easier but this one need a PC test bench or full tower roomy case.

You are going to have 4090 soon, very soon, and you know it.

Thanks.  I've been chasing sparks most of my life, so you're kinda preaching to the choir.    My gut's telling me if the Powerlink 41s are out of stock now, they might not be back...all things considered...so preference at this point may be academic.

What I wrote above about the 30 cycles of the connector is wrong. I apologize because I thought the connectors should be designed for better service life and tried to justify my conclusion.
My statement above:

rjohnson11's thread does an excellent job of diving into this issue. I'll stay out of it from now on.

The surprising part for me is the Molex spec referenced in the discusion section of the Teckpowerup article. I encourage everyone to check it out.

Quote from the discussion:

"This is an irresponsible article. 30 connection cycles is an industry standard and this rating does not make this any less safe than the PCIe connectors you've already been using. Proof: www.molex.com/webdocs/datasheets/pdf/en-us/0455860005_PCB_HEADERS.pdf "

I'd really like to find one as well!  I'm on the auto-notify list, but not hopeful that they'll be fulfilled. :(

Also on the Notify list, letting the powers that be know where's still a demand for this.  If anyone in the US is parting with one due to 4090 upgrade/etc, let me know.

Thanks for the link, might do the same on my 3090Ti with the EVGA 1600T2.

Do you know what the difference is between ModFlex and ModMesh? One looks like maybe a tighter weave, not really sure.
Found it:
ModFlex is our softer, more flexible sleeving option. ModMesh is our stiffer, more vibrant sleeving option, which is also UV reactive, as well as a more durable sleeving type.
