That is the understatement of the year. I was ready to get a 3080 Ti (or at least attempt to) so I could  replace my 3080, but after the reviews...doesn't seem worth it at all.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think the performance difference will be?

Did you expect a 50% improvement from a 3080 to a 3080 Ti?

People seems "surprised" and or "disappointed" by the performance difference between the 3080 and the 3080 Ti. Where we already knew the performance difference between 3080 and 3090 is like 13%. Only by watching specs you could see that the 3080 Ti and the 3090 was gonna be like 5%, hence a rational person would have expect like an 8% difference between the 3080 and the 3080 Ti. At the end of the day it was 3080 has 10% less performance than the 3080 Ti and the 3080 Ti has 3% less performance than the 3090.

I think anyone with half a brain could see where the performance was going to land it was essentially impossible for it be faster than a 3090 and was obviously going to be faster than the 3080 so its performance is what you should expect (and honestly its great) the problem that's got everyone so upset is the price but lets be real $999 is where it would have been priced if everything were normal but things arent normal and no matter how much you try to compare the costs of these cards with those fairy tale "msrp" of all the older ones from last year you are missing the most important point of all (you will NEVER get them anywhere near that and those cards prices are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what's listed as MSRP for anyone who is determined to get a product)

Yes theres always the chance you win "the lottery" and get to purchase one somehow at msrp but you are the outlier at that point NOT the norm!

If you have the choice of just buying nothing during these crazy times then yes do so this card does nothing to make things "better" in that regard.

But IF you are GOING to be buying H3LL or high water then compared to what you're likely to be spending this card could be an incredibly good deal.

Getting 3090 performance for less than what a typical 3080 / 6800xt / 6900xt would go for is pretty enticing!

I get that people don't want to make these comparisons and that in doing so your ok'ing the increased pricing / scalping / mining / etc but reality is reality and fantasy land is fantasy.

I head COUNTLESS people posting that they would MUCH rather give the "extra cost" to Nvidia then some scalper and yet now everyone wants to be up in arms when Nvidia agrees its better if the cards going to cost more that they at least be the one getting the extra cash (so maybe they can do something useful with it vs some scalper)

Cards good its plenty powerful and offers reasonable size power req heat etc it's "solid"

Price is essentially what it has to be right now its up to you to decide if that's a ballgame you wish to play in or not.

You certainly dont have to buy anything and in doing so would ultimately help your cause as well as everyone else....

But lets be real no ones doing that they just want to whine while they pull out their credit card and demand SOMEONE take their money!

Just an FYI - THE 3080 TI does pass the 3090 in quite a few games. Some AIB cards are beating the 3090 upwards of 15% or more. This is without your standard user overclocks.

You mean AIB 3080 Ti vs FE 3090 right? That's not so odd given that some AIB set the boost clock and power limit higher than the FE. I doubt an AIB 3080 Ti would beat an AIB 3090. Lets say 3080 Ti Strix vs 3090 Strix. The 3090 has to win no matter what's the game.

What are you talking about? Where did you take this data from? If you are saying AIBs 3080 Tis pass 3090 FE then it's not apples to apples comparison tho. Also beating it by 15% seems quite impossible to me since 3090 is 15% faster than a 3080 in BEST CASE SCENARIOS and it seems unreasonable that a card by the same company that is priced 300$ below it can beat a 3090 by that much

Yes. The 3090 isn’t really a gaming card (although it Is good at it). The 3080 ti is designed for video creation processing. So it’s not surprising that it passes the 3090 on occasion.

But it is simply not true. Provide data to back up your claim. Find me a single reviewer that got the 3080ti FE beating the 3090 FE in a single instance.

Lol, what? The 3090 and the 3080 Ti are the exact same card in terms of tech, and use the exact same software (drivers). they are both GA 102. They use the same technology. The only difference is VRAM amount and 2 more SM for the 3090. It's not like comparing a Geforce vs a Quadro

This is going to be $1500 after tax and shipping. My hype is dead.
I'd almost rather pay an extra $500-600 for the 3090, at least you can mine with it.

Looks like the FE cards already have people lining up for them. I cannot wait to get my hand on one of these. Just not sure if I would be happy with a 3070 TI or if I need to try for a 3080 TI. Sounds like the performance increase in both for the TI FE versions is solid but not amazing and I want to get best bang for my buck.

"Best bang for the buck"?

This ain't it chief this card is only for those that give a crap less about cost and only want "the best" (and maybe are completely foolish with their money so skipped 3090 hoping to save MAYBE a couple hundred) but this card (3080ti) is never going to be "best bang for the buck" its more like "the most bangs for all the bucks"

3070 Ti is certainly a "better" buy but still likely not the "best bang for buck" but between the two its absolutely the "better deal"

3080 Ti isn't really for people who are going into this with the mindset you have.

More companies should be like EVGA that offers programs to remove bots and limit scalpers.

ethanlegrand33
do yall think the Ti is worth the extra cost over the regular 3080?

If choosing between paying going price for a 3080 on the street today? Yes its worth it.....

If trying to justify it based on the "original msrp" of the 3080? Then absolutely not.....

The question you have to ask yourself is this?

Are you going to be someone who pays up and gets what he wants regardless?

Or would you literally buy nothing if you cant get it for MSRP?

Maybe something in between?

You have to answer that last part and its ultimately the deciding factor its a great deal compared to going prices but a terrible deal if everything was in stock and available at MSRP.

Does that even matter in today's world?

Again you have to decide...

The best bang for the buck IMO in theory is the $699 FE 3080. Of course is impossible to get, and all retailers sell 3080s at least for $1000. So IMO there is no best bang for buck in Ampere. All of them are expensive for what they are. So you can have a more expensive or a more cheaper Ampere GPU but all of them are equally as bad in terms of price/performance (in real world prices).

Linus has a video up showing the 3080 Ti FE and 3090 being very similar in gaming performance and actually surpassing the 3090 in some games. 3090 was not made for gaming unless you are wanting 8K or doing video creation. Those are the only people who need 24GB of VRAM. I'd prefer not to pay the extra money for VRAM that I'm never going to use.

I know...EVGA is missing out so much by not making white versions. It will literally cost a few dollars to make white version.
I think all cards are selling out even without white variant so hopefully EVGA will make white version...I am tempted so much to spray paint mine but I don't

I really don't think this current market situation means any revenue loss due to a specific color offer. They are always out of stock anyway.

I feel like the price is pretty insane but there's not a whole lot we can do if we're in need of a card.... the power consumption of the 3080ti is pretty insane as well.... overall just insane... did I say things are insane?

Hopefully, the que system will work as it should to get cards into bona-fide people that need it but I'm not holding my breath. Sad that my thoughts tend this way now 😕
