Does the XR1 actually do the video compression or does XR1 simply pass through the uncompressed HDMI video to the computer, and the computer does the compression compression?

Three questions: What refresh rate does the passthrough have for different resolutions (when not streaming) - specifically 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p? There is conflicting and/or vague info on this with the OP post and the page linked there. What impact does having an ultrawide monitor have on these refresh rates? Can you use G-sync while using this device? I'd guess not but wanted to ask. It looks like a few others in the forum here are interested in knowing some of this stuff.

"Record at 1080P/60FPS while you game at 4K/60FPS with HDR" is certainly a nice feature, but the main question I have is can you record/stream at downmixed stereo while you game in 5.1/7.1 audio? All other capture cards on the market that I've seen will, if you game in surround audio, simply take the "left" and "right" channels of that and record/stream only those, effectively eliminating the majority of audio since it's discarding whatever went to center or surround. If the XR1 does this, then I'd upgrade to it for that alone, but it just says "built in audio mixer" without really detailing whether that just means "volume control."

USB-C that's interesting! As a Content Creator, We're always looking for a better way to accomplish a task. USB 3 was flaky. The 1st USB 3 chips could not handle the throughput and would disconnect. I remember the 1st Camlinks were atrocious! Still have one sitting on the shelf. Those Devices would take the output of a single Camera but would not take the output from our Video Switch! Junk! Not everyone will have the Bandwidth, Upload speed to Live Stream 1080 / 60 whereas 1080 / 30 they can. if not that, then 720. We use 1080i / 59.94 Broadcast and 1080i / 29.97. The Frame Rate really matters for sharp, crisp video! I can see the potential for Clients with this Capture Device on newer Computers. Requirement: USB-C! Smart! Working with a different Chipset on the Motherboard, designed for sustained throughput in mind not just burst mode! We expect the Streaming Device to take whatever we send and down convert for YouTube. We use 4 Canon SDI Cameras and 3 HDMI Computers for our Channel Production. We'll take the Feed from our Blackmagic ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K Video switch, routed to the HyperDeck Studio Pro 2 SSD Recorder, then out to the Input HDMI of the Capture Device then to the Computer through USB-C! Smart choice! This should be fun! Eager to see the potential! The software will be the key to see if this is an all inclusive Device or just a Streaming Device requiring something else. 1 - If it works and 2 if it's stable. This will make a good Video! If this thing works, get ready for the Sales! We'll all know soon enough!

I was one of the first to try it and seriously regret it. It runs excessively hot, black screen flickers, connections are loose and have been waiting 3 weeks for an RMA yet EVGA had the nerve to charge me the cross ship fee 2 weeks ago and says maybe they'll have stock next week. Should have went with Elgato.

The technical specs are somewhat thin. It says it encodes RAW? I assume that means that this does not do hardware encoding and instead relies on a computer to do the heavy lifting? Does anyone actually know?

I'm confused. I have my PC connected to my monitor via DP cable to for 1440p 144hz. XR1 need to be connected to monitor via HDMI. Pc sees XR1 as a 2nd monitor. I'm using this single PC for gaming and want to steam using the XR1 on the same PC. My LG monitor is set as primary and XR1 is secondary monitor in the nvidia control panel. Everything is setup in OBS and I can see the webcam feed and desktop (of second monitor which is this XR1) in the OBS preview window. But when I launch a game it is it displayed on primary monitor and doesn't show it in OBS preview. Only way I get a game to capture in the OBS is if I clone the second monitor XR1 to Primary but now I'm stuck with 1080p. How do I keep resolution to native 1440p 144hz and stream in 1080p? Or do I need a second PC as a streaming PC??
