Because I am recently married, going to school, have a kid, and money isn't flowing like with some of you right now.  It makes more sense to me to upgrade to something that I know is going to be around for a few more years and is not being phased out like the Core2Quad is.

So, rather than using a perfectly good motherboard which you already own, you would like to pay for a new motherboard so that you can use a processor in it with possibly less performance than what is available to you now for the same price.

It doesn't sound like you have a cash flow problem.  It sounds like you have a problem with your logic and the case of AMD fanboi.

Guess what ty_ger you don't understand my financial situation and I don't see why you give a crap about what I am thinking.  It is my thoughts and not yours.  This forum was originally for me wanting people's thoughts about the Q6600 now you have turned it into a bashing of me and what I am thinking.  Thanks for ruining a great forum that could have possibly helped others if they needed info about a Q6600.

I never said your decision was bad.  Also, I never said that a Phenom 965 would perform worse than a C2Q processor.   All I said was that it would be wise to compare the cost of buying a new motherboard to support the 965 versus the cost of upgrading to a higher performance C2Q which supports your current motherboard.

I understand that but don't call me out about my finances and my thoughts when you aren't me.  I appreciate your input very much.  I am not new at building a computer so I have and will continue to research up until the day I do get the money to buy something.

In all honesty I wouldn't even speak of CPU comparison on this forum. It's littered with a whole bunch of "Buy Intel or bottleneck" "Intel is always the best choice" mindsets.

@Ty_ger You're being pretty ignorant by clearly stating that you don't know which choice is faster and then blatantly assuming that Intel is faster. It isn't. The 965 is slightly faster and also overclocks pretty well. You can get 4GHz on those too. And a brand new q9550 costs $280 where as a brand new 965 and premium 890FX mobo (supports 4 way crossfire, usb 3, the works) Costs less than $300. Versus a Q9550 on an older chipset that might not even work well with 45nm tech.

Although ty_ger07 might have put your financial situation into hindsight, please give him a break. He did make some valid points, albeit a little bit sharp. I've interacted with him this forum for a while, as many people have, and I can assure you he means to foul.

I didn't mean to bash on him and I apologize if I do.  He just hit a weak point with me right now.  Many apologies ty_ger07

Re:Intel Q6600 Specs 2011/02/14 01:33:44 (permalink)
Hi. I had a similar situation than you before. I had and ancient E6600 "conroe" and I was thinking in upgrade to a intel quad until Ivy Bridge comes last in this year . The prices here in Spain for the Q9xx0 are pretty insane, costing me 280€ ... I ended buying an AMD mobo based on the 785/710SB chipset to use my old DDR2 and buying a Phenom II x6 1055T for only 10€ more than the C2Q ...

- I don't have experience with the Q6600, but in the chip are 2xE6600 on a single die. For me, the E6600 is a workbeast and have very potential. The best Dual-Core I had owned. Mine can run 3.6 ghz at max, but I played with it at 3.2Ghz 24/7 (using a P45 mobo).

- I think that you will be happy with the Q6600 if you can find it under 100$. Many members here have been using Q6x00 series in the past and they overclock the same than their dual core counterparts. Remember that the make more heat than a dual core, using a good cooler is mandatory! Good luck with the Q6600 and go for it if you can!

Yeah I love my Core2Duo 6750.  It has been fighting for over 3 years now and I have had it OC'd to 3.5 for the past year using a upgraded cooler.  I don't want to get rid of it, but with the issues I have been having BFBC2 I am convinced the processor is going to give up the ghost here shortly so I am thinking an upgrade is in order.

Well I will never know now.  The jerk hasn't shipped me the product and today he ended up refunding the transactions claiming that I was difficult to work with.... I only emailed him because it had been a week and he hadn't shipped the processor.  How does that make me difficult to work with???

It looks like He needs to learned how to b nicer to His buyers waiting for any response is kind a poor costumer service maybe is for the best.I am running right now my Q6600 @ 3.09ghz for a year now is been pretty stable and my CPU Cooler Master V10 does a good job.

If you cant find a good used one, Newegg still has Q8300's for $150. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16819115207

Otherwise you may want to consider saving up for a new platform like Sandy Bridge P67.

Re:Intel Q6600 Specs 2011/03/01 10:55:33 (permalink)
Get a Q9xxx, as even if it costs a bit more, they are graceful overclockers and are faster clock for clock than the Q6xxx. They also have SSE4 instructions and generally larger caches. I have used a q9450, q9550, and a qx9650 and each required very little voltage to achieve 3.6+ GHz on air. I now have an i7 950 and I miss the incredible thermal characteristics of the C2Q 9's. The 45nm C2Qs might not be the newest tech but they were an OCer's best friend and were the M1 Abrams of the processor world. The QX9650 is in my secondary rig right now and it's a joy to push and tinker with. These can be pricey though, and the 9550 is the better option for the price. Mine ran 3.4 @ 1.175V and the core temps. never went above 46C, suggesting much more headroom for further OC.

Re:Intel Q6600 Specs 2011/03/17 06:53:57 (permalink)
Simple, if you have a good watercooling:
- If this Q6600 is B3 - 3.3~3.4Ghz at 1.44~1.50v
- If this Q6600 is G0 - 3.6~3.7Ghz at 1.44~1.49v
If you have good aircooling:
- If this Q6600 is B3 - 3.0~3.3Ghz at 1.40~1.44v
- If this Q6600 is G0 - 3.2~3.5Ghz at 1.39~1.44v
If you have stock aircooling:
- If this Q6600 is B3 - I advise you not to overclock!
- If this Q6600 is G0 - 3.0~3.2 at stock voltage +0.05~0.10

Hope this helps ;)
