Below is a firmware/driver update for the ASmedia USB 3.0 controller on EVGA X79 motherboards. This update improves USB 3.0 stability in some situations. The single update below will update the firmware and driver for the USB 3.0 controller.

Driver 1.14.8 / Firmware 1220E

Also, I want to thank those users in the community who helped to find this solution.

Quote: The single update below will update the firmware and driver for the USB 3.0 controller.
So you you would need to re-run for the driver if you do a new install. Maybe a driver only package or it sees the firmware is current and skips that step.

Not sure why they wouldn't include the VIA VL810 firmware in this update, might as well do all of it, right? Anyway, if you guys want that firmware it can be found at the link below.

Cause it's not needed. Most of them updated just the firmware and driver, after 3 to 4 days with no further issues.

In my case it took all three, I still got the power surge message after doing just the E12220 firmware and drivers, I updated the VIA firmware a couple days ago and (crossing fingers) havent had a problem since.  It's just another option for those that still experience problems.

Well, for whatever reason, when the previous firmware and drivers I installed manually didn't fix anything.

However, after installing this package, I'm able to run XMP1 (1867 MHz) at 4.6 GHz and all 8 USB 3.0 ports work and I've had no errors for 4 hours.  That's a positive development.

I'll need to do more testing on all the other BIOS bugs to see if anything else happens to be resolved as a result.

It's for the VLI (Via Labs, Inc.) hubs.  The USB 3.0 package on these boards consists of the ASMedia (ASUS subsidiary) 1041 XHCI Controllers and underlying those controllers are the VLI 810 USB 4-port USB hubs.  There was a firmware update for the hubs that's been out for awhile as well.

Try to run this utility: usbdeview

It can create an HTML report. Make sure to enable "Display USB Hubs" in the "Options" menu.

Please create a separate thread and post it so I can see what your system is saying about its USB ports. I am mostly interested to see the lines where the "Driver Description" column is "USB Root Hub" and "Generic USB Hub".

After several tests, I can say that the firmware can be downloaded from the site vialabs, is  the same posted on station driver under asmedia directory. I first installed the firmware vialabs, after I tried the asmedia firmware via dos, prompt telling me that the current version (vialabs) and asmedia were the same. identical, the same version number .. However, I have no more 'problems, but evga has really disappointed me ..

Why EVGA dissapointed you? because the community found the solution first? or what? BTW i never updated the vialabs firmware, only the asmedia (a week ago via DOS) and no problems at all.

the reason i was disappointed because no one has taken matters in hand, no answers, too much silence. and then I'm sorry, why should I meet you to explain to you? I work, and this problem, this loss of time it cost me. asmedia vialabs firmware and the firmware are the same! one or the other .. same version number :)

Via says and lists their firmware as V0.95, ASLabe E12220. Maybe you could post a screen shot of where you are seeing the same for both?

So .. in the first screen I'm using fw vialabs and I'm trying to upgrade to fw asmedia via dos. note the same version number .. in the second screen after I updated to asmedia, vialabs using the software to update the fw, the version number appears as "9.50" (aka 0.95) exactly the same when I used the software on windows the first time when I used the fw of vialabs. everyone did the same passage of fw can 'confirm the thing :)

    @badboy64:

I will do that when I get home from work later today.

Well none of my USB 3 ports are working and I have them enabled in the bios. They aren't even showing up in the device manager at all.

Restore defaults on your mobo, rerun the tool, shutdown and cold boot.

I already did that when I updated to the 38 Bios. I will try it again when I get home from work.

I'm not sure what to try then.  I do know I installed the firmware once and the drivers once and it didn't fix things but when I installed this package everything worked like it should.  I'm not a n00b and I confirmed the updates, so it's kinda funny how it's hit and miss.
