I was thinking of going that route, but had so much other hardware I need to make some use of.
Let me know if you decide to turn loose of that 2600K, I have a extra board that needs something.

I'll be keeping this 2600K for a while, it's the first CPU in my life I can actually call "Golden", does 5.0Ghz on this p67 FTW with lots of room left...... I'm probably going to upgrade the wife with this P67 setup and maybe sell her Gigabyte X58 stuff.

you know there is an updated version of HP USB Storage Disk Format tool v2.2.3, e.g. here:
http://www.softpedia.com/...rage-Format-Tool.shtml

I used it a few times already both at work and at home and it works flawlessly.

EDIT:
also I am using those win98 boot files and they fine for me:

You should be able to do on any board, there just has to be a DOS version of the flash utility available for your board.

x79 BIOS 038 (1E779038.bin)

When I follow this procedure everything works fine up until the FPTDOS.Bat File is executed and the "Y" is pressed.  At that point a screen appears informing me the process has started.  Just as the 11-lines of the BIOS flash tool for DOS appear, this message is posted on the next line:
"EVGA "[PMODE/W]: Not Enough Memory Available"
   http://tinyurl.com/canpva2

System is new: x79-Classy, i7-3930K, 32GB of G.Skill 1866.

Has this happened to others, and are there any ideas on how is it resolved?

Try a different usb flash drive, and go back and revisit the instructions.  You may have missed something.

Thank you so much for the help, I was finally able to flash the new BIOS to my X79 FTW.  It looks that this may be the only way to do it if you are running in raid 0.  When you reset to default bios before flashing you will not be able to get back into windows until the raid is turned back on.  Flash from DOS, it works.

Lvcoyote Try a different usb flash drive, and go back and revisit the instructions.  You may have missed something.
This was enough information to find a solution.

When formatting this Flash Drive in Win-7 Pro it went painfully slow.  When done, DOS DIR /A  failed to display the hidden DOS system files.  Not seeing the system files I assumed I could just copy the files in the Windows 98 folder onto the Flash Drive.  Putting all those files on a 2GB drive, consumed ~ 10Mb of space, which I suspect was a problem, or something in the Win-7 formatting was causing a problem.

After seeing Lvcoyote's idea, I formatted the Flash Card in Win XP Pro, and it a complete format didn't take more than a few minutes.  This time the DOS hidden system files were moved as expected and visible in a DIR /A display.

With BIOS set to Defaults, and the SSD drive disabled, the Flash Card contents appeared after the reboot.  Executing the FPTDOS.bat file generated the previous warning screen, and when "Y" was entered, the updating process began the process of clearing the Flash Block, and updating the BIOS.  Here is the image displayed at that stage:   http://tinyurl.com/crfjvx9

When the BIOS Updating completed, it showed this image:  http://tinyurl.com/come3qc

Rebooting the x70 Classified and entering the BIOS Setup screen presented this image:  http://tinyurl.com/ck5av6t

Now after a couple of days the machine appears to be still working well, and will soon be ready for daily use.

Lvcoyote, Thank you for responding.

 I try to flash my z77 ftw bios, however, it showed: not enough memory available!
Even I flash in win7 64bit, the system auto turn off.

When I first tried to use a USB stick to handle the BIOS update, I discovered the formatting process didn't work as needed.  In my case, the dialog sourced the DOS files, but didn't place any of them on the stick.  Three attempts showed a problem in the USB formatting software.  With no hidden or visible files moved to the USB stick, it won't Boot into DOS.  With a large USB stick I didn't think it would be a problem to just copy the files to USB stick.  That approach worked in allowing the stick to Boot the computer in DOS, but it generated this screen message:
   http://tinyurl.com/8gowuvo

After the above failure and "Lvcoyote" comment posted, I found an earlier version of the USB format software on my EVGA x58 machine.  That earlier software was used to format the USB stick again.  Right after that formatting finished, it uploaded the DOS System/Hidden files, but none of the visible files.   With the USB stick DOS capable, I copied the EVGA BIOS files and edited the BAT file to be sure it would load the current EVGA BIOS file name.

Not placing any of the standard visible files on the USB stick appears to be the difference between success and failure in my BIOS update.

This next image shows the USB Root/Top directory level.  It also shows the DOS System files along with all the other files (In a DOS Console window, type "Dir /A" at the DOS prompt when you can see the USB drive letter in the DOS screen):
   http://tinyurl.com/9jqdyna

If you need more information, ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Thx for your reply!
Where can I find the earlier version of the USB format software?

I've had this since 20040421 and it is version 2.1.8.  It worked for me and it looks like this when I do a USB format:  http://tinyurl.com/953syl2

If you can't find it, send me a PM and I'll see if I can find it and send you a link to download it.

One of the things to keep in mind is it appears your USB stick is formatted correctly because you were able to discover there wasn't enough memory.  If the format had failed, you wouldn't have been able to do that much.  With that in mind, and if you haven't removed all the visible files from the stick, and then attempted to only add the BIOS files from EVGA, give that a try as I suspect it will work once DOS doesn't attempt to load the visible DOS files used for booting Windows 98.

lamechw I used the version same as you, but i try many time, it still only copy 3 system file, no any win98 boot files

There are only 3-system files needed to boot the computer into DOS.  If you have these three files:
 IO.SYS   MSDOS.SYS   COMMAND.COM
You have what you need to boot.
The other files shown are found in the EVGA BIOS update ZIP file you download from EVGA.  In the example I showed above here:     http://tinyurl.com/9jqdyna   I had last updated to BIOS version 38.  Current version is 39 so the name of my BIOS (.bin) file now shows 39.  Unpack the EVGA BIOS files into a disk directory and then copy them to the USB stick.

Change the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files as shown below and this will work to update your Bios on X79 FTW ALL MB. I did not test on the Classified model. I used the what is in this Thread and the changes below. I would run our of memory and not update the Bios.

device=HIMEM.SYS /testmem:off
dos=high,umb
files=64
buffers=32
stacks=9,256

And change the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to what is below or delete it.
@echo off

Just a question: Which are going to be the advantages of flashing the bios of the P67 right now?

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the battery?
Is not that I wouldn't be able to, but its just right under my GFX card....

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!! Set up a simple FreeDOS image with the BIOS update. Then a person can simply burn this image to a cdrom, a thumb drive and flash. It will reduce head aches for us that don't use Winbloze, and even for those that haven't woken up yet, it will solve you tons of problems trying from within Windows. ? What am I missing? Do you need me to do it for you?

Ishantz,  If you go to support and pick your BIOS, look at VIEW  under NOTES.   There is the information for DOS loading.

Visit this thread and follow the installation instructions. (Thanks Lvcoyote!).

Thank for this, I had to use it to update my EVGA Z68 SLI board

I have a HP 32GB USB flash drive though so it was a really slow process formating since you said not to use quick format when createing the dos startup disk.

At least I only have to do this once though, I'm only gonna use the flash drive for updating bioses anyway
