I noticed the latest BIOS version 120 no longer uses the AFUDOS command and went to the FPTDOS command, updated the original post to add that information.

Then you didn't do something right. Start over and make sure you have the memory stick at the top of the hard disk priority list, and that the hard disc is first in the boot order.

Tap on the F7 key during boot, you should get to a screen that lists cd roms, HDD's, etc. You can choose the USB device from there to boot from. It should be listed under hard drives.

So I made the USB stick, the exact same way it was explained. When I select the USB as priority boot device, and when I restart, it will end up in the BIOS again. When I press F7 and enter the boot device selection screen, and select the USB Win98Boot USB drive, I get black screen with the white thing blinking in the top left of the screen. Nothing else happens. I already did the whole 'making flash drive tutorial' twice. What should I do now?

I do not know if this will help or not. I make my selection of boot device in BIOS before I actually boot. Next comment would be; when you are in windows have you used the cmd box to change to the FLASH DRIVE and seen all the files that are there. I would guess you could do this from windows explorer as well. Are all the DOS boot files present? Make shure you DO NOT Have a "Z:/" drive IO.sys config.sys msdos.sys command.com doeskey.com inifile.com mscdex.exe wbat.com ctmouse.exe himem.sys cpudet.com ansi.sys Some of these are hidden files so cmd-box would need a dir /ah to see them: ALso: must have file folder "DOS71" assuming that is the dos you are using. if not change the BAT file to refect the correct name of the folder. You should have a autoexec.bat like this: L:\>type autoexec.bat @ECHO OFF PROMPT $P$G SET DIRCMD=/4 MODE CON RATE=32 DELAY=1 REM MODE CON CP PREPARE=((437)EGA.CPI) REM MODE CON CP SELECT=437 REM KEYB US,,KEYBOARD.SYS KILLER DOSKEY DOSLFN /Z:A:\DOS71\CP437UNI.TBL MSCDEX /D:IDE-CD SHARE /L:30 NLSFUNC SMARTDRV CTMOUSE REM For compatiblity purpose: CTMOUSE > NUL ECHO. REM For locking volumes to enable "direct disk access": REM CALL LOCKDRV.BAT BREAK ON LFNFOR ON ECHO Now you are in MS-DOS 7.10 prompt. Type 'HELP' for help. ECHO. ***

I'm trying to get my eVGA X79 SLI to work. Oke so here is what I did, cause its quite simple all in all. I got me a 2GB USB generic flash disk 5.00, formatted it with the HP program, selected that it should be bootable and assigned the win98boot folder to go with it. When finished I copy'ed the BIOS files that I've downloaded from the eVGA site onto the flash drive. That' s about all that needs to be done I guess. I also tried the same thing on an SD card, but it gives the same results. The files you mention do not appear to be on the flash drive. The only files that are on there are the BIOS files. However, when I try to manually copy the content of the win98boot folder onto the USB stick, it asks me if I want to overwrite these three files: the COMMAND.COM, IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS. So I guess they are present, somewhere. My biological processor is not compatible with DOS whats however, please don't make me go into that web of darkness and eye-blinding symbols!! I'm not that much of a PC genius.. Maybe I should just wait for my pre-flashed chip to arrive.. Or RMA the damn thing all together.

Mathew posted this a while back for other X79 users to try, seems like it worked for some: Try this: Create a folder called BIOS in C:\ Extract all files to C:\bios Open a command prompt, ensure you right click and select open as administrator. Type CD\ <Enter> Type CD Bios <Enter> Type FPTWIN(32/64).bat <Enter> It should flash.

I'm still folding for the old 13285 team. One reason I went for the SR2, so I could cut back on the amount of rigs, but still be able to turn as much work or move. Plus summer coming on, power bill is already starting to clime. Need to save that money. I hang out here and a few other places, but don't post much any more, just a lot of reading mostly. Looks like I'm going to be breaking down 4 working rigs just to build this one. Two with Corsair H50 to get the coolers, one to get a E5645 another to get a E5620 out of. Looks like I'm going to have quite a few extra parts to sell off after this move. lol
