Hello.

I have just got the  from second hand and I think that its thermals are a bit too high. I have used gpu-z for the measurements and during benchmarks (I have used 3DMark - Time Spy and Rainbow Six Siege - Build in one on highest settings) and I am getting temperatures between 78-84C, VRAM temps are approximately the same but hotspot temperatures are +-10C higher. And during real gaming it's usually even worse, it's approximately from 80-86C and the hotspot sometimes reaches 100+C and fans are almost constantly at around 70+% (which is already quite loud in case of this model...)
It is also worth mentioning that my best undervolting attempts (not exactly stable ones :/) + letting the PC case semi-open didn't really do much, based on room temperature I am getting 3-6C improvement...

My question is, is this really normal? I have found that appropriate temps for GPU under load are between 75-80C, however XC3 model has visibly smaller heatsink by its design than other GPUs and it is also OC-ed to 1725Mhz... not saying that it is a design flaw but it might be a contributing factor...
Cards's 3 years long warranty has expired according to so it can be assumed that's approximately GPUs age as well. The screw under the warranty sticker was also removed at least once since the sticker has hole in it so the previous owner was probably repasting it at least once but he did a good job, card is holding rock solid nothing is loose and no visible damage is present.
Also, the heatsink seems to be doing its job to some extent. That thing is essentially working as an external heater in my room...

I am asking this to know if this is normal before resorting to invasive stuff like disabling the card to check the paste and thermal pads.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Yeah, those temps are a bit high. I would repaste with some ptm7950, and call it a day.

I agree. Also make sure there is no dust buildup.

Okay, thanks for quick reply, I thought that those temps were off.

The card was clean from the beginning so dust is likely not the issue, but even though I blew it through before putting it in for a good measure...
But I had a thought that since the guy before me was likely repasting it, could not it be that he also changed the thermal pads and he messed up the thickness which is causing the core to not have a proper contact with the heatsink? Am not really going to confirm this without knowing what the default/stock thickness is supposed to be. So, is there some sort of EVGA datasheet or something where I would be able to check the supposed thickness?
It would be on point to know as well in case of going for a repaste.

78-84c on the vram is ok. 100+c on the gpu hotspot is not ok. Sounds like the only thing you need to do is repaste the core with ptm7950. If you’d like to put new pads on the vram too I would contact evga via phone to ask them what the proper size is.

Okj but, well PTM7950 is not exactly simple to get in my country, and is usually quite expensive... And also from what I know, PTM7950 is mainly used for laptops and other "smaller" devices. Another thing is that, although it can get liquid it is sill technically a thermal pad and slapping a thermal pad on core of something as hot as RTX 3080 TI just does not sound right for some reason...
But I mean, there are mostly positive opinions on it so I might as well try...

You can use it on your gpu without a problem as I’m using it on my 4090. If you’d like to read about my results you can do so here… https://forums.evga.com/L...y-a-year-m3618192.aspx
