Hey everyone. Would first like to state that I'm kind of frustrated due to this issue, so I apologize if I come off as angry or irritating.

Anyways, here's my situation:
During an RMA for my card (9800GT SC) a while back, EVGA replaced it with the same card, only with a different BIOS. Long story short, I now want to flash the BIOS to the SC edition that Tech support sent me. My problem is that, for some reason, I cannot seem to get it to work. I have now been through 6 CD's, used countless CD Burning programs, and nothing seems to work. I have been following the instructions off of this email from EVGA Tech:

1. Burn ISO to CD or Run EXE with blank floppy in
2. Reboot machine with only the one N976 card in the machine

3. Boot from CD or Floppy
Hit Y if it asks
4. Wait until flash is fully complete and it goes back to the dos prompt and reboot.

Can anyone here please, please help me flash my GPU BIOS. For some of my wasted CD's, the BIOS detects the file size (1.44MB), but does not do anything. For others, the DOS prompt goes through a bunch of text and then nothing happens.

Could that be the issue? Personally I don't enjoy contacting EVGA Support, it takes at least a week for them to respond, and when they do the email doesn't really contain anything helpful.

Try a flash drive method, much easier IMO.

Alright

What are the contents of the disk?
Maybe you're not entering the correct commands.

I think overclocking the card to SC spec via EVGA Precision would be MUCH safer and easier.

Ignoring that:

1. Make sure the CD drive is the primary boot device
2. Make sure you are burning the ISO as an ISO and not a data file, try Active@ISO to burn the ISO.

You haven't said exactly what's going on though, you say "For others, the DOS prompt goes through a bunch of text and then nothing happens." What exactly does that mean, what others? And explain what steps you've taken to make sure nothing happened after the DOS gibberish.

I don't think that's the issue, but no harm in eliminating it as the cause.

Hmm ok. I will send a message asking for the BIOS again.

Not counting on it though. If anyone here could perhaps give me a tutorial and what program to use to Burn the CD and flash the GPU BIOS, I would highly appreciate it.

There are specific commands that must be entered to flash the bios.
Also the correct tools need to be on the disk, what's on the disk?

NVflash and the bios need to be on the disk, can you confirm that?

The instructions say it will execute the program, and when it's done it will return you to the prompt (<A>:). It sounds like the BIOS was flashed successfully. Have you checked to see if the clocks have changed?

They haven't.

@onion: I don't think they are, which is a problem. I've searched for other guides, and all them have stated you need many more files and such, a lot more than what seems to be a basic guide emailed to me by Tech Support.

That being said, is it a program not burning the ISO right? It's either I see the N976.iso on the CD, which is apparently wrong, or the CD appears to have nothing on it but is full with around 2MB. Either way, the BIOS flashing doesn't work.

If you burn an ISO correctly then go into Explorer and open the CD, you should see all the files that were contained in the ISO file, not a file with a .iso extension.

I would look into using the usb flash drive method.
Much much easier, I can up load all the correct tools you would need.
You just need a flash drive that is bootable.

All right. I'm going to try it again, only using PowerISO this time. Anything I might have to change before I burn?

EDIT: It would be great if you could do that Onion.

Try http://www.imgburn.com/ on default settings.

I've tried that program, using the "Write" option, and no luck.

Do you have a flash drive?

Yup. Do I have to clear everything off of it for the flashing to work?

It looks like using a USB drive is what's left.

Make it bootable (this will erase the files on it):

http://www.hardwarecanuck...umbdrive-bootable.html

Then put the files for the floppy version on the thumbdrive, set primary boot to "removable" and voila.

Yeah, you're gonna have to format to make it bootable, I'll up everything you need, minus the bios of course.

All right thanks, let me go get my thumb drive set up.

Here's a picture I took of the fail CD Boot up, to clear things up.

You'll need 3 things on the drive, both of the nv files I upped and your bios.
Name the bios something simple, I always name mine "old.rom", "new.rom"

At the prompt you'll need to enter  nvflash -5 -6 biosname.rom  and hit enter.

Ok so I'm currently following RiChess's link, and have DL'ed and installed the HP program. However, I am missing the usbimage file, so I cannot make the flash drive a bootable DOS startup disk.

Am I missing something?

Edit: Download the file called "DriveKey" at the bottom of the post, the usbimage file is in there.

USBimage is just for backing up the thumbdrive. You shouldn't need it.

In the guide it states: "Press the browse button and point it to the folder called "usbimage" in the DriveKey folder."

Do I just set the browse to the folder, since I do not have the file?

EDIT: Doesn't work, tells me that there are no valid DOS files in the selected location.

I had a tiny brain fart, I updated my last post with the correct info. The usbimage file is in the "DriveKey.rar" at the end of the post.

No problem, I really appreciate you guys helping me out here.

So I have the flash drive ready to be bootable, do I now add the nVFlash and cwsdpmi files onto it, along with the floppy version of the BIOS?

I haven't flashed a GPU BIOS before, but I would first try the floppy files by themselves, then if that doesn't work do what onion says.
