No problem, I really appreciate you guys helping me out here.

So I have the flash drive ready to be bootable, do I now add the nVFlash and cwsdpmi files onto it, along with the floppy version of the BIOS?

Yeah

I'm still curious to know if they sent you the correct file.
Do you see a rom or bin file in the files they sent?

I haven't flashed a GPU BIOS before, but I would first try the floppy files by themselves, then if that doesn't work do what onion says.

Ok, well, the file they sent me for the floppy is named N976.ex_
It then told me to rename it .exe, which I did, but below the file name (N976.exe), it still says it's a EX_ File. Is this fine?

Right click the file, select "Proporties" and make sure the file name ends with .exe.

Ok that's done.

Those are the files they sent me, I currently have the one on the right on my flash drive, along with the 2 files NVFlash and cwsdpmi on my drive. Am I good to go?

You need a bin or rom file to flash using nvflash.
Upload what they sent you, lemme look at it.

You probably don't have what you need .

Not sure how to send you them or upload them on the forums, as the max limit is 500kb. Do you have an email I can send you them to?

I think the .exe replaces the need for a .rom file and nvflash. Try just the .exe on the flash drive.

Ok so that didn't work, but onion has graciously offered to take apart the BIOS sent to me from EVGA and get me the correct files

Thank you to everyone who helped, specifically RiChess and onion, I think the BIOS flash will go well once I have the correct files.

I surprised EVGA's support files proved so totally ineffective. Hopefully onion will be able to set you right.

Honestly, I would flash the BIOS in a totally different manner.

The method given by EVGA is really a run-around method.

:S

They are the manufacturer though and you should do it their way for warranty reasons.  You would assume that they would at least send you a working package though.  !!

Me?  I would download NvFlash version 5.67.  Then, I would get ahold of the proper SC BIOS.  I would put the contents of NvFlash and the BIOS file in the same directory and then I would type in NvFlash BIOS_NAME.ROM in a Windows Command Prompt (in Windows).  Done.

NvFlash is easy to get ahold of and so are BIOS files; you just need to know where to look and you need to know exactly which file you are after.

Is it possible to add in the 300/600/100 2D clocks?

And ty_ger, 7 CD's later, the method EVGA told me to flash the BIOS was trash, so I'm currently waiting to get a hold of a custom BIOS from onion and then flash the BIOS using nvflash on my USB drive in the BIOS.

That IDK for sure, contact EVGA about that.
Ask them why there's no 2d setting in the bios.

I wouldn't use that BIOS.  That thing looks like trash.  Too much stuff missing.

There should be 2d and 3d clocks.  Not just Extra clocks.  Who knows what else is wrong with it.

Trust me, from first hand experience, if you have the wrong 2d clocks, it can lead to artifacting and freezing ~1 second after boot completes when 2d kicks in.

Huh.

Looking at the 9800GT SC BIOS file obtained elsewhere, the clocks are the same and it is also missing 2d, and 3d clocks.  The funny think about this other one is that it says 8800GT in the boot settings tab.  Looks like NVIDIA forgot to change the name to a 9800GT. :D

Well, my current BIOS doesn't have any 2D clocks, and apparently neither does the one EVGA sent me. Their support recently replied with the lines, "We do not normally distribute these firmware for the video cards. Please let us know if you continue to have issues."

I have since inquired again about the BIOS'es, but TBH, I have no clue what EVGA is doing haha.

I downloaded a 9800GT SC file elsewhere and I see that it also only has Extra clocks.  That is very strange.

I can't believe that they would use such a crappy BIOS.

Hmm well, I currently just want to flash my BIOS so I know how to later once I talk to EVGA.

I just tried it, but I don't know what to boot from.

The options on my Gigabyte P45-UD3P are as follows:
Floppy
LS120
CDROM
Hard Disk
USB-FDD
USB-CDROM
USB-HDD
Legacy LAN

I have tried all the USB options, but no luck. What am I doing wrong this time

What are you using?

N976.rom that Onion sent you?

All you need is NvFlash version 5.67 and the N976.rom file and you can do it right in Windows.  You don't need to reboot and boot up off of a bootable CD or flash drive.

Yep.

But it HAS to be version 5.67 of NvFlash.  The other versions won't work in Windows.
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1222/NVFlash_5.67_for_Windows.html

Just extract the NvFlash files and newgt.rom into the directory C:\NvFlash.

Then, open Windows Command Prompt and type in:
CD \NvFlash  ENTER
NvFlash newgt.rom ENTER

Done.

You can leave out the -x (-5 -6 ...); not necessary.

I don't know if EVGA officially supports this post though.  You are doing what they instructed but in a different manner.  It just happens that their manner makes no sense and isn't working for you.

Oh ok. Do I simply open up the NVFlash DOS screen and type in the nvflash -5 -6 N976.rom command?

No nvflash is a dos tool, not going to work in windows.
I stand corrected, wasn't aware of a Windows version, sorry. But the bios is named newgt.rom
I emailed you the correct commands, look again.

Not familiar with your bios, but here's how I select my flash drive.

Not the case.

Look at my post above^.

5.67 works in Windows.

You do the flash in Windows.  It clears the GPU BIOS EEPROM, writes new data to it, and then verifies that it was written correctly.

Then, you reboot for the change to take effect.

I have used 5.67 and done Windows flashes dozens of times.  It is safe.  (Assuming that the BIOS EVGA gave to you is correct)

Ty_ger, your way gives me this:
Error: PCI BIOS not present.
Note: This program can only be run under DOS.

I have NvFlash 5.67, and the files are in C:\NvFlash

Currently going to try again if I can get my motherboard BIOS to see my USB drive.

You used the version I linked to above?

That is odd.

Sure, do it off of a bootable USB drive or CD.  That is fine.  I was just trying to instruct you with the easy way.

This is what it should look like:

(Disregard the fact that I changed the background and text color)
