Hey guys, TL:DR -- Should I contact support about below? I got the thermal pad kit and installed it, was easy as I have replaced many coolers on graphics cards in the past. However, I am not an engineer, and I simply do not know if this is an issue I should be concerned about. Additionally, I do not know if this was an issue prior to disassembly. I can't see how it wasn't, but since the primary lack of contact is at the end of the card I never see it. I do not have the power cable tight, the card is not being pulled by it. Edit, can't attach things yet.

Seems all good to me. Just to be sure, use a bright flash/LED light to check if lights are passing through.

Cool, yeah. I wasn't sure what those small thermal pads at the end of the card were doing. Since they are definitely not touching.
Temps are good ~58c.

Mine did the same thing after installing supplied thermal mod, I noticed the cooler wasn't quite aligned with the card. I noticed a temp increase overall but I'd say it's due to more being in contact with the cooler. Might redo my gpu tim with something else wasn't quite happy how the cooler had to slide under a small lip on the io shield, probably caused some of the compound to spread improperly.

58c on Idle or gaming/100% usage on GPU?

58c while gaming.
I don't think there is any direct cooler issue. But whatever those thermal pads at the end of the card are there for... They aren't touching the cooler fins anymore.
Same for part of the newly installed VRM pad.

So if you look at the end of your card, you see those thermal pads not making contact? I'm guessing they are components that need active cooling, or they wouldn't have pads?

Do you think the supplied narrow pad is too thick? Looks like it is pushing the heatsink outwards at a small angle as it reaches the end of the card.

Yeah mine is doing the same, after noticing the angle looked down the end of the card and was doing what you see.

It seems like that's the case. Especially since Toxell is reporting the same. I guess I should hit up support, and see if this is a problem.

I have the pads, but reading stuff like this makes me not want to mess with what's currently working just fine. Sigh.... whatever happened to products shipping in perfect working order?

I hear ya man. Though I'm beginning to wonder if my card was always kind of like this. Do you mind taking a photo of the end of your card before you do the thermal pads?

When has that ever been true? Products always have defects, problems, failures, design issues, whatever. Nothing has ever been made "perfect."

Just to be clear man, I happen to love EVGA. And have for years. Each company does end up having a serious lemon every once in a while. All I care about is whether or not the pads on the end of my card are important enough to worry about an RMA. Please keep the fighting about QC out of this thread if possible, as I have a serious question. :P

I can confirm that I now have a gap as well after completing the thermal mod.
I didn't notice if the smaller pads touched the heat sink before I did the mod, but my gut feeling tells me they didn't.

Well, while I wait to hear back from EVGA on this... I have done the following. It's not tight, just enough to bring the card into contact with the foam pads. As I do not wish to damage my card, and can't stop gaming. :P

With everything making contact, after a bit of gaming. I'm hitting ~62c maximum, with a custom fan curve. That's more aggressive than the new bios one.

EVGA response is that it should be fine. So I'm going with that.

So I was browsing eBay as I am looking to pickup a second 1070 SC, and I came across this.
ebay.com/itm/322335016692
As your can see in his pictures, the card has warped out of shape the same way ours have. But he does not have the thermal mod installed. I find this worries me enough to consider an RMA because the card may actually have warped from heat.
