While I was fleshing out all of my EVGA GTX 680's to find which was the best over-clocker I found out I have a beast card. I always wondered why this card all the way at the end in my 4-way SLI config operated so much cooler than the others. It is crazy efficient.
1328 MHz core, 3580 MHz memory at stock voltage! Also EVGA Scanner X and OCCT stable at these frequencies. My other three GTX 680's would top out around 1240-1260 MHz core when used on their own.
This core is so efficient it idles at 18 C! Anyone else see clocks like these? It will make a nice single GPU for my new mini-build.

Yeah, some cards have that Golden-chip, and others aren't as good, which bothers me since all GPUs should be alick in how high you can clock.

I have a friend who has an EVGA GTX 680 which idles at 23C while mine idles at 31C. We both have the high flow bracket installed and he also has the backplate. I would say that my friend has a golden chip just as long as he can overclock in the 1300 Mhz range.

I'm totally happy with my 680. It's a fantastic card. That's good to know by the way.

These are likely the kind of GPUs NVIDIA is looking for to power the GTX 690. GPUs that can operate at lower voltages and run more efficiently overall in order to stay within the 300w power window.

Ya, I am running now 1325 MHz core and 7000 MHz mem, didn't realize I could bump the mem that high until I saw some people at that mem and it's working great. Seems our chips are pretty rare that can do this.

Is water cooling a must to reach 1300+ stable or are some of you aircooling with those overclocks? I'm debating watercooling my next build with 680sli.

These cards run so cool stock that it isn't a must, but still preferred to water cool to get the absolute max out of it. That will really help once the voltage unlocked cards come out. Zotac already has a card with up to 1.5v core coming out. Hopefully EVGA has some nice stuff up their sleeve with the Ultra Classified. If I can get 1425+ core out of it water cooled, I will upgrade my 1325 MHz core 680.

Nope, I did it with the stock cooler by keeping the fan at 65%.    Now I have installed a $40.00 arctic accelerro twin turbo 2 cooler which keeps my load temps at 52c with the overclock.

That's a good point. The ASIC Quality in gpu-z 0.6.1 and 0.6.2 can show you how good of a chip you have. This can also mean how good it can overclock as well.

Pretty sweet. Those artifacts you mention in the vid are probably glitches in Heaven.

Those artifacts are from the card when benching Ungine Heaven 3.0, and the clock frequency is close to crashing the card.  I've seen them before, but the 6990 puts on a better light show before it goes belly up, and the amd driver crash msg pops up.  QF 6990s @ 0.96 GHz clock speed x 4 AMD gpus will almost replicate the same affect, but with more pretty dots in different colors on certain frames.

    Edit: Adding more detail.

0.96 GHz clock speed, 1.5Ghz mem speed, +20% power settings, avg temp between all 4 gpus at 46 deg c

Could be, but Heaven has been full of graphics glitches on versions above 2.0 for me no matter if the card(s) are at stock speeds or oc.

Ya the older versions are glitchy.  Even the 3.0 has some minor graphic glitches with AO in certain frames.

I seen those same artifacts when testing my dual GTX480's at there upper most limit of there OC.
So your most likely right at the edge of its max OC before seeing more artifacts at a slightly higher OC.
