side note:
you kind of have a lot of people waiting to see...

Other than me?

Just had a near death experience. Was flying space combat on an old star wars game, not even with the GPU OC'd and it started throwing our artifacts like crazy, then the driver crashed. Artifacts were still there, so I restarted, and they're gone now.. I don't want a 480, so hopefully it's okay.

to be honest halo...there is nothing wrong with a 480. and it plays dx11. so it's not a loss going from a 295 to that.

the 295 had it's day in the sun...quite a few of them i might add, but now.... a 480 is a long way from going backward my friend...

True but I'd have to get another block then. lol fortunately people have them cheap so I wouldn't have to pay retail ideally. Gonna run Furmark for a bit and pray.

the transition wont be a hard one. it just might take a few days...but if the card was bad and they said they were upgrading you...then that's when you would buy the block or blocks as well. and a 480 can run pretty high on clocks on just air. just dont over due the mem clocks is all.

as for furmark... if your trying to break the card...sure...run furmark for hours on end...

i would check for leaks on the card myself.

Fortunately I have an EAR on this card.

If I end up RMAing and getting a 480 I'll pick up an EK Nickle block probably.

Gonna run furmark for 5 minutes, then give it 5 loops of vantage, 3 of heaven, etc.
Leaks are a negative, temps were around 40C. Didn't red light, it's seated fine, not sure why it would have done that other than it's dying.

Edit: After Furmark it's still okay.

My 480 can run 900-925 core and 1100-1125 mem on cold air for benching. And that was at 1138mv, it's max v in AB; and it's max temps were 38*C. It needs moar voltz!!! Based on the bot, that is pretty good for a card on air. I just wish i had a Sandy B*tch or 990x to run with it on ln2 to get some nice points.

I could have sworn we've talked about this before. I used AB Volt Unlock and it let me set the voltage higher, but when applying, it would set back to 1138. That was a modded 2.0 iirc. Is the one you are talking about the modded 1.6? I am pretty sure i tried that too, maybe i'll have to try it again though.

Edit: Q do you have a copy of the 1.6 extreme version? I can't seem to find it anywhere...Maybe i didn't try it then.
Edit 2: Pretty sure i just found it on OCX.

Well it seems I killed another 2600K. But this one at least still runs up to 4.7Ghz.
Yeah that one. Though I never could get it to boot above 5.6Ghz. 5.9 must have been a 1 time deal, CPU was brand spanking new then.
But I have another. Don't know how it clocks yet.

hold on there speed racer..

if your not going cold..then dont push the cpu hard..

most of us testing 2600k's are below zero and it usually takes only 2 minutes to know what the chip is.

How to boot full speed?

BIOS says -25c
RealTemp says -9c

My CPU won't go above 12x multiplier though.  This is a i7 965EE and the multiplier is set at 29x.  The BIOS seems to think the CPU is overheating and won't let it run at full speed.  I have enabled Extreme Cooling mode (EVGA x58 SLI).

Boot up with the Phase Change off and then turn it on?

Ah hah!

But I easily overload it.  I will have to carefully ballance between voltage and cooling.   1.5v @ 4.3GHz overloads it after about a minute.  But, I probably don't need 1.5v any more...

This will be quite the learning curve.

that's too much voltage... start all over.
every thing set to auto.
set the cpu voltage to 1.375V
and the cpu speed to 4 ghz
turn of speed step only.
then from in windows...start upping the blck or multiplier. (5 at a time blck) or (1x multiplier)
if you run blck then go till it crashes...then set it 5 points under the crash spot in windows. you should be able to do far greater than where your at now.

Whoa. VERY nice! Try running superpi on that speed.

Sidenote: I need to get a phase. CPU seems to want cold. 4.4Ghz 1.33Vcore, refuses to go over 4550 with 1.5V though.  My dad is looking for a vaccum pump still, and I'm looking into the refrigerant cert.
